  1. Dicks just had a sale, $54 a case, found out late so all I got was one case of 7-1/2 1-1/8. Went to another store, they had 2-3/4 dram 1 ounce. Figured I see if they'd work. I have to admit that I was surprised, Rio ran my Stoeger.

But for all that I'll be watching for the rebates on AA. 10 cases will run a whole season and I can use my other ammo for practice.

  2. What I have seen is a total failure to find the Nooks on the IPAD., The IPad is found by the nooks, just not the other way around. I've simply typed in the sync code from the Nook into the IPad and all is good.

As a general reminder, get a collection of cheap paint brushes to keep the nook screens clean. And for a stylus try a regular pencil with a soft eraser.

  3. Just to keep this somewhere in the top 25.

Is there any word yet on this match? A number of us are keeping dates open and passing on other sure bets to hold the place in our schedules.

If it is still good to go, then great, We can wait to mail in money, if on the other hand it is starting to look like it is not happening, please let us know. There are only so many days off and there are SO MANY matches!

    Thank you

  4. If it were possible, I would always bar walking the stages, even at a local match. Some people get the time off and show up a day in advance, they plan out each step and they run the stages as if they were a choreographed dance, the rest get to show up day of the match and do what they can in the 5 minutes they get as their squad shows up. Not a real fair evaluation of a shooters ability.

Now that said, unless I have 100% control of the stages and the range and I have a dedicated staff that is not involved in the actual match this is virtually impossible. This is the same reason that blind stages don't work well. No one gets to walk, all you know is that there are targets, you may not even know how many or what types. then shooter 1 runs and you get to count his shoots and hear the steel, by shooter 3-5 you have a pretty darned good idea of what to expect.

So, the take away is, if your range access is limited, do the best you can, most USPSA matches are generally open for inspection with the caveat that you cannot activate any props or movers. Generally even at Nationals you can ask the CRO for permission to walk his stage between squads. Usually it is granted.

Basically it sucks, but I don't see a good way around it. I will say that if Cowtown can't give you access to walk early or a longer walk, then they should limit to the fullest extent possible all the Saturday Sunday shooters in the same manner.

All that said: Good Luck Ranger!

  5. A defaced Serial Number is a VERY BAD THING that can get you a room at the Gray Bar Hotel.

There is more than just the opening of the port that needs to be done. depending upon what you want done, I would recommend contacting Tom at MOA, they do nice work and are intimately familiar with Stoegers.

  6. We used .27 yesterday fr a 7 stage match. I had a couple issues. Fr some reason we had a couple nooks keep looking for Wi-Fi even after turning off wi-fi. the screen would go to the turn--on wi-fi dialog and hang up. We also had one unit just shut off, not go to sleep, but shut off.

I do like the auto decimal feature. I will be looking at the lock stage feature for the next match as one of our squads apparently switched to the wrong stage # (Two stages had the same target and steel counts) and no one caught the error so 5 squads were scored in the correct nook on the wrong stage. When we synced, that overwrote the correct scores, then we couldn't re-write the scores. I suppose I could have transferred each shooter to the correct stage, I think, but I just edited each one. I was a bit concerned about the possibility of loss.

One feature I would like to see is the ability to export/print the stages to verify them against the designs. easy to miss something. A NPM left off or added above the required number. Also if a target has an NPM assigned, the regular mike column should be blanked out.

Also and I read this somewhere in all the threads, when I wanted to sync, the IPad didn't find the nooks even though the nooks found the IPad. I had to type in each sync code. I am not sure what version I have on my IPad. I'll have to check if that is the possible issue.

  7. I think that the Reload SG vs Buy SG depends upon what load you want or need to shoot and what brand you buy.

AA runs a LOT more than $55 a case and I can load not counting hulls for about $50-$55 a case. Best I can buy is $60 for Wally World IF I can find it. On occasion Cabelas runs a sale. If I see it I buy it, but especially for practice where I can reclaim most of my hulls I reload.

All that said, 1-1/8 ounce at about 1200 FPS works my Stoeger just fine. I may see just how light I can go because why not.

  8. I have to say that my wife 'sponsors' me as in I can take the RV and her Jeep and head off to a match for a week at a time with no problems. Do I have an equipment sponsor? No. Would I turn away a company that makes the stuff I use if they said Here Jim, wear this shirt and tell the world you love us in exchange for gun, ammo, scopes, etc? Probably not. Probably because right now, I can shoot whatever matches I want to providing I can get the time to shoot them. I can shoot what gun I want or feel comfortable with. I can try a new piece of gear or even a new gun and not offend my sponsor. Now, if JP, Springfield. Stoeger, S &W, Para, Vortex, Larue, and a host of others ever decide that they want a somewhat out of shape 60+ shooter with a penchant for stating his mind to shoot for them, I would certainly give it a long hard look. But since that ain't all that likely to happen....

I shoot what I like, And if it is good product, I will tell the world.

Speaking of which: JP Rifles, I think I am into at least 12 years now and it is still incredibly accurate. Para (By way of EGW) Still a great pistol, Stoeger from Tom at MOA, OUTSTANDING, Vortex HD, No complaints, I would trade up to an 8x maybe :) Safariland, and Itasca for the Match transporter. If I was half as good as my gear, I'd be at least twice as good as I am.

  9. My first trip to this facility. What a place, the potential is incredible. The owners are seriously some really nice people. THANK YOU Damon and family.

The match itself was well run with stages that were not stupid. Sorry if that sounds a bit weird, but so often we see target arrays set up simply to enlarge a round count. The stages were well thought out. The round counts were decent, large enough to justify the trip, but not requiring an ammo bearer to follow you on a stage. Shooting positions were achievable by just about anyone. You needed to be fast and accurate to place well. I did better than I have recently, but I know that I still need to improve. One issue that cost me was my own failure to carefully assess the penalties. Had I realized that the miss penalties were not as large as some matches. I might not have fallen in love with a couple targets. Could have moved me up a few places since I missed anyway!

I will definitely return to Tarheel matches and to this venue.

    Again Thank you all!

  10. We ran our match yesterday on .25, but also ran one squad with the latest release of .25 04201509 I think. There were a couple minor issues but they were, we think, related to the dust issue with nooks. You have to keep the dust off or the screens don't respond correctly.

I am thinking of doing an update on a full set of nooks for my next match and relegating the 'standard' nooks to back-up and running the match with the new edition. Any issues, I'll hand out the ones we know work and deal with it.

  11. Time Plus is not the issue if I understood the question, it is the specific penalty values.

All I know is we've set up our own and it worked. I have not desire to ever go back to paper scoring! My work load is not 20% of what it used to be.

  12. If I remember correctly, you can build your penalties as you want them. That is what we do when we run a 2/3 gun match. our penaties were different than 3GN, but similar. we will in the future probably use theirs as we are traveling to many 3GN matches so why make it difficult. That said, we found no problem, I build in Ipad, Sync to and collect data in NST, sync back to Ipad and go on my merry way.

  13. I have a couple questions.

    1) what time is start time for the AM group? PM group?

    2) Is there a shooters meeting/registration before the match? We shoot Sat/Sun and apparently pm/am so if there is a meeting is it Friday night? Or do we have to be up and at the range at 0600 on Saturday?

    3) how many stages are there? it looks like 8 squads in each flight. Are there actually 16 stages? Or are we shooting 1 on, 1 off?

    4) Is it is possible to park my RV on the range overnight?

    Thank you

  14. I'll admit that I was not going to buy an Ipad, I have enough trouble dealing with MS, but I can honestly say that the Ipad is the way to go for setting up the match and dealing with the results. Now if only we could get a new 'Nook' like device that we can see in the sun and has a battery life measured in days not hours..
