  1. So is the trend in Limited towards a 6in barrelled gun? if so why?

Since I have an STI already, I would prefer to keep the same platform.

Thought about a stock STI, or maybe a Dawson tuned STI, or maybe a Brazos, or even on the outer limits a Limcat.

So many choices. Maybe just have Rich build me one on an STI frame?

  2. Cant believe it but the wife said I should get a second limited gun! OMG! So what would your ideal Limited set up be? If you read my other posts I shoot an STI for limited, and am considering staying with that platform but not sure if I want to go with an STI build or one from Dawson, or even Brazos or one of the other big names.

But in your reply, dont just stick with the STI. I am noticing a few Glock and XD's in limited at our range. So what would it be?

  3. Need some advice. Have a neighbor that wants to join the Production Div. but has rather large hands. Has tried my XD, and it seem a little small, while my 2011 limited gun fits his hands well. Besides the Beretta 92's which of the production guns in 9mm have a rather hefty grip size? Our local gun shops dont carry alot of variety to try.

    Thanks!

  4. OK, havent decided which I will use for 3 gun at this point, but for the handgun I have either a xd Tactical in a DOH Bladetech holster on a CR Speed belt, or an STI 2011 with a CR Speed Holster on a CR Speed belt. Is the CR Speed Holster allowed? What added pouches have others found that will work with these setups? I like the Safariland ELS combo, but want to shoot some 3 gun this year before spending the money on an entirely new setup.

  5. Here is my situation. I had been using a local gunsmith for general repairs. A few weeks ago I took him a Tikka rifle to have it Magna Ported. Simple right?

Well, he calls and says the rifle is done. I go to pick it up, and to my surprise there is a muzzle brake on the end. He goes on to describe that HE called Magna Port and discussed it with them and decided that on a 300 wsm it would be better to install a muzzle brake instead of the porting. Well the muzzle brake is ported 360 degrees and the porting would have been only on the upper 180 degrees, you can see my concern when prone. The point here is that HE made the change without even contacting me about it, and had it done. The outfitter I am using for elk this fall requests "no muzzle brakes" as did out outfitter for a safari in Africa. So for me this rifle is esentially useless an it is not configured as I wanted it.

Since this smith is just starting his business, I know he does not have the $ to replace my barrel back to original.

So...... I am looking for a gunsmith in my area which is North East Ohio, but will also entertain others if they are competent. I prefer to use someone who is familiar with USPSA rules and 3gun.

If using a seperate gunsmith for handgun, a seperate one for rifle, and a seperate one for shotgun, that is fine.

My Production gun was built by Rich at Canyon Creek, and if needed will go back to him for any repairs.

    Thanks.

  6. Wistlepig,

Thanks for the comment but I already have several more powerful rifles with muzzle brakes, so I am fully aware of the sound differences.

Everybody else, thanks for the comments. I will see what I can do with my tools.

  7. I have been using N350 for both my 9mm and 40s&w, but they are near factory loads. Does anyone use this powder for thier 9mm production guns, and with what charge and bullet weight?

I've been told, the heavier the bullet the lighter the recoil, in general, is that correct? if so why do some use 124's over a 147gr?

I am shooting an XD 9mm Tactical for production.

Thanks for the replies in advance!

  8. OK, I am new to AR's except some plinking, but would like to change the factory birdcage with a Miculik comp on my CMMG. Besides the comp, what other parts, and what tools would I need to accomplish the changeover?

  9. As busyhawk said, go to the canyon creek site , or call Rich. I bought the gun from Rich and had him do the work before I even touched it. I've shot it at the indoor range and works fantastic. Now I just need to do my part in the field.

  10. I am looking for a set of DVD's that would provide quality advice, training, set up and practice advice that also incorporates the newest rules for USPSA. Maybe geared to Production. Any suggestions?

Is there a training DVD similar to the above but covers 3-gun?
