The follower and the slide release have already been modified. It does not lock open on the last round, but catches on the back of the follower after the last round has been fired. May go ahead and get the mag tuning stuff from Dawson and go that route, and then if it doesnt work, replace the followers.

Have been doing dry fire drills and just started to do empty gun reloads and missfires. However on my first attempt to cycle the slide after reloading, the slide seems to be catching on the rear of the follower. The gun has been set up to not lock back on an empty mag. So how do I correct this? Most likely will not run gun dry but then again......
Thanks for the help.

Have been looking at this for awhile and it seems that the aggressive sole shoes all run D width. Is there a good "normal" formed shoe with aggressive sole for those of us with size 13 2e feet?

My wife and I will be doing a 5 day private training class. REALLY looking forward to it!
-
Has anyone taken the classes at the Universal Shooting Academy, or as it is now called Universal Tactical Academy?
Tell me about your experience.

I have a Triangle Shooting sports 6 in 40 with an additional 9mm top end. Wonderful gun for limited and steel.
Have a Cheely 6in on order. Cant wait!

OK, I went to the range today with my stock Browning Gold that the only thing I have done is install a Nordic Comp extended mag tube and spring, and berrel clamp. As I was loading the fifth shell, it seemed like I had to push the shells further into the tube to get them to stay in the mag tube. Otherwise the shell would not allow the lifter to be pushed up to get the next shell in.
Also, once I got 8 shells in it, the gun fired and loaded fine until the 8th shell which left the tube and rested on the lifter, but the lifter never raised the shell to chamber. No the bolt was not closed.
I have not had these problems in its stock configuration. I wanted to try my existing guns before starting to look at others.
Advice (except buying a Benelli) excepted.
I am trying to get all my guns to run well in mock stages before traveling to a match which the closest one is 2 hours away.
Thanks

Well, she went to the store and found jeans and shorts that will allow the underbelt to go through. Not difficult to find.

Tnek,
No offense meant. Should have said for shooting Major in Limited and Multigun.
-
OK, so SA brings out the 5.25 in 9mm. Great for production, but what about 40 for the limited and Multigun crowd(me included)? Is there anything in the works?
-
Jesse,
How is the balance of the Stag? I have heard the 3G1 is a little barrel heavy.
-
Jesse,
Is that an 18 or 20 in barrel?
For a couple hundred more, that Stag may be the way to go.

Thanks guys!
My current AR has folding sights as well as the Eotech. So I guess I am good to go either way for the rest of this season.
-
Ok, these may sound like stupid questions but I have confused myself with the USPSA rules so need your advice.
What is the difference between Limited and Tactical besides the optics issue? Looks to me that non magnified are acceptable to Limited (like my Eotech) while Tactrical can have a magnified optic. Correct?
Also both divisions allow comps but both dont allow ports. So a JP Tactical Comp is not legal as it has exposed ports? Or am I missing the point here?
Thinking of starting a new AR for 3gun and am also interested in a basic platform to then modify as I hopefully shoot better and move to other divisions. Have been thinking of getting the DPMS 3G1.
If you were a new shooter to 3G, which division would you start in?
Thanks alot!

Dang, I went with 5 in XDs cause I didnt like the 4.5 barrel. Dang you Springfield!
-
OK, I get the idea, but have not run my guns dry except in practice. Never had a round in the mag with a lock back, nor have I had a round stick up in a reload. Guess I have been lucky.
-
FWIW, theres an article in the current Front Sight magazine about replacing grips on 2011's
Dang! Read everything else except that. Thanks!
-
OK< I would like to change the grip on my 2011 to one of the contoured and painted ones. So, not being a gunsmith, how easy is it to change the grip? The problem looks to be with reassembly of the backstrap and spring. Is there a video online for this? Or should I leave it to my local parts replacer?
-
Just bought a 6in limited gun and found that the slide release has been milled to not lock the slide open on the last shot. Do others do this? I dont know anyone at our club that does this. I am familiar with pinning the grip safety. So what is the advantage to milling the slide release?

Getting my wife into shooting again. She tried using my CR Speed belt but found that the belt loops on her jeans are too narrow for the inner belt. Has anyone of the ladies experienced this, and what was your solution to the problem? I am looking to put together a complete setup, and want to do it right. Obviously she will be making the final decisions, but I am doing the research. So if you would, let me know what your setup is. She will be starting in production. Thanks!

WST works great in both with the bullets you've listed. Only problem with WST
is its an inverse powder; in other words the colder the outside temp the hotter
the load. So the reverse applies; the hotter the outside temp the lower the
velocity (I live in Northern Illinois).
The shooters that I shoot with that use 9mm and the MG 147gr bullet use 3.3 grains
of WST and it makes about a 140pf.
I shoot a 40sw and use 4.6 grains of WST and both MG 200gr cmj and Zero 200gr fmj.
It makes about a 170pf. I shoot the MG indoors and the Zero's outdoors. But when
it gets in the 90's I'm real close to going minor with the same charge.
If you try WST please start the powder charges lower on both and work up to the
loads I've listed. WST works real good in my Dillon 550.
How clean is it in your guns? My XD Tactical is very picky!
So far I see Solo 1000, but another thread indicates Solo is not the best choice for 40.
I really need a clean burning powder with the bullet weights I indicated.
-
Trying to find one powder for both my guns. I was going to use N320, but cant find any locally. Have some on order but no idea when I will get it. So I am looking for a backup powder. Bullet weights are as follows:
9mm minor for production XD Tactical 5in MG 147gr cmj
40 S&W major for Limited STI 5in. MG 200gr cmj
Have thought about Hodgdon Clays or Titegroup. Looking for something clean burning as my old powder was N350, and really gunked up the chamber after about 100 rounds. Incomplete burn.
-
The trend in the 6" is to keep the weight down using a bushing barrel. The sight tracker may give superior accuracy but do yo need a 40# fly swatter.
AirCooled racer has a good 6" gun in the classifieds, no need to wait.
Benny Hill builds the Fat Free and his 6" guns are like the defacto standard..
I shot a couple weeks ago with a guy that had two of those Cheely 6" sightracker guns, and he didn't know that they were not approved yet, but I told him sssshhhhh, I won't tell if you don't. level 1 match. He was in love with it, and seemed to do well with it, aka no FTF etc.
I contacted Aircooled, and was told his gun was sold.

If you have read some of my other threads, I am looking to add a new limited gun to my pack. I like the look and the longer sight radius of the 6 in models. I have also read, and heard from Matt at Cheely Custom that the 6 in sightracker paperwork is in process to be legal in Limited. Since I have never shot nor seen in person, what is it like to shoot a sightracker? Can you focus easier on the front sight? Do you feel it helps you, or is it a gimmick?
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but my search did not yield answers.
2011 mags Need tuning?
in 1911-style Pistols

Well, I got the Dawson 2011 mag tuning kit and it has made a great difference. With the tolerances Dave gives the slide just touches the top of the follower. Doesnt catch anymore.
Thanks for the advice.
