  1. I'm no ballistics expert but I don't see how you can build up enough gas pressure in a minor or sub minor load no matter how fast or slow the powder is for the comp to work effectively ...? I think the comp on a Steelmaster is just there because it makes the pistol look cool ... :). In my Steelmaster I use 3.4g of 700X under a 115g Xtreme plated RN. I just chromed the rds yesterday and they came in at 101 PF and the dot hardly moves ... YMMV.

Yep short and light with a super light slide and recoil spring
  2. I really don't understand this train of thought. I understand there is no power factor in steel but I will venture to guess that most of the steel shooters are also USPSA shooters?

In my feeble mind I see a "FLAT" shooting gun to be of way more importance in USPSA than steel challenge.

    Here is my thought process:

I only have to hit the target once is SC.

If I am letting the dot settle back on a target I have already shot, I will never win. I need to be able to call my shot and know when the dot leaves I have a hit and be moving to the next plate?

Why would I want to learn(assuming I use the same gun for both) two different impulse patterns caused by shooting two different loads.

I would really like to hear from the "BIG BOYS" if they change guns or loads to shoot steel challenge?

How bout it Max M, JJ, KC, BJ ETC: any help here?

    Mildot

Exactly. Plate rack match are the same way. If can't call you can't win.. Doesn't matter what the gun does after the shot your in transition Anyway. I like it as soft and mild as possible

3.9 grins of Wst behind a 135 bayou bullet is a great steal 9mm load.

  3. Anyone have any load data for 135 grain lead or plated rounds with WST?

    Yep!

    Just chrono'd yesterday.

    CZ Sp-01 Shadow

    Bayou 135 gn bullet

    3.93 gns WST

    WSP primer

    1.120 oal

Ave 990 fps for 20 shot string

    Mixed brass

That's my load with a 135 bayou bullet. I get a very soft 130 pf out of my xd tactical with a storm Lake bbl
  4. Eric this is the second slide on this gun. The other was my super comp slide that had almost 60k rounds on it many of which was at the old 180 power factor

The first 9 major slide had around 55k

Fir this slide to break so soon I just don't know.

However this time I'm going to have a new barrel fit also.

Sti will warranty to slide so that

    Is some relief.

The thing is the slides are not breaking in the same place

So I'm wondering if I was just unlucky enough to get two bad slides

  5. Gerald you jinxed me you son of a gun I have the worst luck with slides. This makes 3. I can understand the first two. Given the round count on them. But this one... After only 8000 rounds my 9 major slide that I had rebuilt last year cracked. It's not a power factor thing. As I usually only shoot around 150 pf in practice and bump up to 170 for matches. This gun was set up with a 10 lb spring and aluminum shock buffer...

I'm really starting to think these guns just can't handle the abuse of 9 major

  6. NJGlockGirl: I appreciate the info. We will be living in Alpharetta so it looks like some of those clubs will be close. I am also looking for shotgun clubs as well if you know of any? Not sure about 3-gun since I have not shot that in some time since we lived in Corpus Christi TX. Thanks, Eric

I lived in Buford. Which isn't far from Alpharetta at all. Your in a good spot matches all around you and close by. I'm lucky that I live in south Louisiana it's the same here
  7. There was really no reason for them not to warranty bjinpass slide. Sti cut it to start with. My two slides on the other hand was cut by well known smith's. But Eric is right both my slides one of which was cut for a Shuman hybrid bbl with full rib and tritop still weighed 11 oz. I can see them not wanting to warranty a 10 oz or less slide. Unless they cut it.

Btw I have not had to mail either of my slides to them. I took very detailed photos and video of the slide being weighed

    Sti stands behind their products

  8. I also contemplated both for a while. In fact I just shot my gun with a flash hider on it for a a bit still wavering I almost bought both with the new intention of keeping the one I liked best and selling the other. But then I thought to give the rolling thunder the best shake it really needs to be drilled and tuned. So I opted for the titan. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

  9. No jack that's the first ar comp I have tried. I would imagine if I was to try another comp now it would be like switching comps on my open gun.

I can't imagine another comp taming the recoil and muzzle rise better. Now admittedly another may do it as well with noise and blast. I was always going with either the titan or the thunder.

I want to see a video of you hitting a 6" plate at 100 yards with a .20 split. Not saying you can't, I just want to see it. :)

Yes sir. But I forgot to mention I was seated shooting off a forend bag weak hand rolled under the but stock support style, doing it. But next range visit I'll roll some video
