  1. I have the foster classic and love it.
  2. The twist is 1/7. I guess one thing I left out that may be important, is this gun is not for competition. It is a defence gun, and I am looking for a good accurate load to play with when I go shooting. Sounds like everyone kinda figured it was for comp since I am getting a lot of suggestions on longer barrels. Sorry for not being clear in the beginning.
  3. Ok, one more question. I had some 55 gr stuff loaded up with 25.6 gr of 748. Also CCI41 primers. I took it out yesterday and tested it. My velocity was averaging around 2820. If this load is accurate and in that velocity range with no major SD, is it ok to use in a 16 in barrel? Just don't want to mess anything up. Also, I'm not using a comp, but rather just an A2 flash hider, so cheap to replace. Just making sire it won't mess up my barrel or throat. Thanks again.
  4. Ahhh I wish it was that easy.
  5. Thanks for the help. Looks like I'm screwed cause I have 16 lbs of 748 and the only thing I have to shoot it out of is my 16" AR.
  6. Thanks for the info. I went with CCI41 primers because I wanted to avoid any slam fires. I also have H355, W748 and 2230. I just ordered a bunch of 77SMK'S. Is varget a bad choice for those also? By the way, just to add I was using an aimpoint with no magnification. Also, MarkCO, what did you mean by my comp won't last long?
  7. I went out this weekend to test out some new loads with my AR. I had a bunch of 55 gr stuff to play with but was mostly there to check some 69 SMK's. LC brass CCI 41 Sr 25.4 varget 69 smk Chrono results: AV 2713 ES 18.22 SD 6.92 1/2" group @ 50 yds I have read all the chrono forum and kinda have an understanding of what everything means. The gun used was a 16" 1/7 spikes AR15. My question is, is this about as good as I'm going to get it from an AR platform? Is the velocity where it should be? I was sitting on a bucket resting the rifle on my fourwheeler. Would have rather laid prone but with all the rain, that wasn't an option. Thanks.
  8. Ok ladies and gentlemen, I finally had time to test some more ammo. I brought my oal length down a little. I also decided to take what was left of the batch I had problems with along too. After I got set up, I decided to shoot the rest of the bad batch up. First five shots all touching. What? Next five same thing, next five..... Some how some way it was me off, way off. The only thing I can think is when I was running the rounds across the chrono, my elbows were resting on the table and that somehow threw things way off. So I am happy that I no longer have a huge dilemma on my hands, but feel terrible for wasting everyone's time. Sorry everyone.
  9. Haven't had time to test anything yet, but its definitely not the sights because I shot factory ammo at the end of the day. I don't know if this means anything, but I notices on all the bullets of the dummy rounds that I chambered in the gun have some small lines on them almost like they are hitting the very edge of the rifling. It is only about an eighth of the way around the bullet.
  10. Ok, so those of you that are as confused as I am about what's going on, it gets worse. I came home today and figured I would play around with some crimps. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the crimp is to avoid setback, correct? Well I made up a few dummy rounds. The first thing I decided to try was no crimp. This gave me a measurement of .378. No where near .375. I tried putting some thumb pressure on the round to see what kind of pressure it would take to get setback. Pushed hard, and harder yet till my thumb hurt. Nothing, no setback. I am using a Lee U die. Is this possible to get literally no setback with no crimp? I did the same pressure on all six dummies, case gauged them and chamber checked them. All good. Now I am so confused. By the way I rechecked a few rounds I had left from the weekend and they were not over crimped. They had a measurement of .376. Sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I'm off the confusion cliff. Would it make any difference that they are cmj instead of fmj if I'm not pushing really hot loads?
  11. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have drill this weekend, so no testing. Hopefully next weekend. I will let everyone know the verdict.
  12. Crimp is .375. I pulled one the other night, and not so much as a scratch on the bullet.
  13. My fault, I thought it was a flop. Didn't mean to put out bad info. Guess I better study before I speak.
  14. The pistol was design by a Croacian company. It was a flop for them. I can't remember if Springfield bought the gun design, or the whole company. That is why there is a Croatian symbol on top of the slide. Awesome gun!
  15. The group was round. The 1.16 fits but barely. Do you have a recommended length to try out?
  16. Jack, the bullets are .355 MG. I double checked AOL and yes that measurement is correct. I have some spreer and siera bullets to try. I loaded up another batch to hopefully try this weekend. I backed off the crimp and made the AOL 1.16 to try. Thanks everyone for the info and keep the suggestions coming.
  17. It is a G31 with a storm lake barrel. My OAL is 1.137. The factor Winchester white box is 1.158. The Winchesters are tack drivers out of that barrel.
  18. Ok thank you. I will give that a shot and see what happens.
  19. No keyhole, just a very large group.
  20. Hello all. I try to do more reading on here than posting, but I need some help. I worked up some 9mm to test this past weekend and didn't get the results I was looking for. My loads were win brass with MG 115 bullets. They consisted of powder from 4.0-5.0 of Win 231. My velocities were good, and I took my time to keep the barrel cool. The problem was with accuracy. At 7yds, I can shoot about a quarter size group with factory loads but when I shot my reloads, it opened up to about six inches with all powder loads. Any idea what the issue may be? By the way I shoot a storm lake barrel out of a G31 and I also use a Lee U die and crimp. Any possibility my crimp is too tight?
  21. I agree. Doing the math on 1k rounds I figure $75 for bullets, $30 for primers, and $65 for powder. Without counting brass it's pretty close to even. Now throw on $60 for brass and however many hours of time and you have your answer. I like having ammo I know shoots really well in my rifle, but for under 100 yard cardboard it's not necessary.
  22. I also am thinking of ordering some lead bullets from bullet works. I have never reloaded lead. Do I need to add a gas check to these bullets? Also I have heard that I cant shoot lead in my stock lead barrel, but what about storm lake and lone wolf?
  23. I am using a Lee factory crimp die.
  24. I just loaded up my first batch of 5.56 to go out and test. I have decided that since they will be shot out of my AR, that I would go ahead and crimp. I am crimping a rem 55gr fmj w/c using a Lee fcd. I set it up in reference to the directions. I know there are many different opinions on this forum as to how much crimp is good. My question is, is there such a thing as too much crimp if you are not damaging the bullet. I have noticed that on a couple different brands that the there is enough crimp that you can see a ring, and the brass has some small marks from the crimp die. Thanks for the help. Just want to make sure that this wont cause the pressures to Jack way up.
