  1. Well, I feel like I haven't accomplished anything. I've been through another 750 rounds or so and I've tried everything that was mentioned. I feel like I'm trying to stare the front sight off the gun but I can't keep from blinking. I've been working with and without a target. trying to do nothing but stare at the front sight. I catch myself anticipating once in a while. I keep myself from pulling the trigger when I tense; I relax the strong hand and correct my grip and squeeze, but the blink still happens. Could i get one of you guys in OK to come and watch me and maybe smack me in the back of the head with a bat every time you catch me blinking?
  2. Well, that's a little part of the problem. they are light enough that I have some cycling issues. The slide won't fully chamber the next round on some of them. I wind up having to bump the slide the last 1/8th" to 1/32nd" on some of the rounds. If it's not cycling all the way, there could be another issue with them as well. I've chamber checked every round. i thought that maybe there was some case bulge or something. Then I thought that maybe my extractor tension was off. I've checked it all. My 1911 was worked over by a 1911 gun smith here in OKC. I put the stock extractor in, same issue. When the issue began, it happened with all rounds. He found that the barrel was seating too high in the lugs. He laser welded some ridges in the lug recesses and it stopped on everything except these light loads. Factory loads don't have the issue and my loads with 5.7gr of Universal don't have it either. This is why I've been pulling them slowly but surely.

  4. I loaded 1000 rounds of .45ACP a few weeks ago and have come to realize that they are ALL suckfest and now I have to recycle them all. A little backstory; I was trying out loads, 6.4, 6.2, and 5.9gr Unique with 230gr Berry's plated. I had loaded 30 rounds of each to test. I did the loads starting at 6.4 and worked my way down. I went to the range to test them out but I shot them lowest grain weight to highest. I found that not all of the powder is being used in the 5.9gr load and basically my arms were getting coated with powder flakes. Well, my mother passed away and things got very hectic very quickly. As part of my coping mechanism, I went out to the garage and began reloading. I went through 1000 rounds and bagged them up, not realizing that I had loaded the 5.9 and not the 6.4 that I wanted. I had even weighed the first half-dozen cartridges to check weight, but I guess it didn't dawn on me. I had also loaded 500 rounds of subsonic 9mm (3.3gr Titegroup with 147gr Berry's plated), but of course, they are all GTG. So, two weeks later, I'm shooting these and getting coated with powder flakes and have decided to pull them all and start over. The PITA is that it takes so long to recover each one. I've been at it off and on for a week and I'm only half way through them. Any opinions as to what I should do? should I chalk it up as a learning experience and shoot them light and dirty or should I continue to pull and reload? (Oh, and I've decided I don't really like Unique too much, I've switched over to Universal, so the Unique I'm recovering is going back in the bottle to sit until I absolutely need it.) Thanks for any input.
  5. I LOVE Wipeout! It's amazing to see how flexible people are. Have you ever tried to kick yourself in the back of the head? I don't think I could, but it seems that about 65% of the contestants on the show can!
  6. I thought it was a fun movie. Nothing deep or life changing, but I thought Tom Cruise made one helluva crazy dude The wife liked it as well but she hates watching any movie with me that has guns in it cause I try to identify every one. I particularly liked the HK MP7's he had in the warehouse scene. Major Malfunction has one and I've drooled over it for a while now. Had a chance to shoot it last weekend at an NFA day at USSA in Tulsa, but I was too busy helping him out. Didn't take any time to shoot anything.
  7. I think the ex-wife joke was just that. I thought it was funny. And I don't know a guy that's divorced who doesn't have some hard feelings toward his ex and expresses it through a joke or two. Was the joke immature? sure, but Bill's reaction was even more immature, in my opinion. All of the talk about "more to the story" is irrelevant. If Bill didn't like Kelly for whatever reason and made his votes personal instead of for the betterment of the team, then he should be gone. he's not benefiting the team in any way. Kelly, even though young, is pulling his weight in the challenges. So is Brad. All of the household drama aside, if they want to win, they have to utilize the people that get it done. I still have a really difficult time rooting for Andre. He's gaming without contributing. my .02
  8. i'm up for anything, so I'll try it and let you know what happens. thanks again to all for your input. Maybe, with all of the recommendations combined, I can beat this.
  9. I've got that one bookmarked. I've been going through it. No flinch, just a blink (but I guess that's sort of a flinch). I did better today with double plugs and focusing on what I was doing and the sights, but the blink still happened. Just need to put more rounds downrange. More and more and more...
  10. Yes. sometimes. When we go to the range, it's usually a friend and I. At the beginning of the session, i do blink. But once I'm there for a bit, I tune it out. I wish I could tune out my own bangs. The range I frequent (2-4 times per week) is an indoor range. it's close to work so I got a membership. 99% of my shooting happens there. I've helped out at a match and watch others, but I haven't shot one yet. that's what I'm working on. So I don't feel like I've participated or have nearly enough experience to RO. The thought (just now) that I might cause someone to screw up during a match made my stomach knot. I have first-match jitters and the match isn't for a month.
  11. I started watching the show because of Seeklander. From the get-go, I didn't like the "reality" format (I don't watch those shows). They made Mike look like an asshat on the first episode, and I even mentioned on another forum that Brad was made out to be a douche on the second episode. On the other forum, I did make fun of him for the comment on the commercial for the third episode (about the "I'm a blah blah and they got me shooting a bow and arrow"). But the way these people can edit comments and take them out of context, it's not surprising. Having said that, I can say that so far, I'm not a fan of Andre. Andre, are you on here? Are you anything like they make you out to be? Other celebs on here, is he like they make him out to be? I know it could be another out of context thing, but he seems like he's definitely gaming and talking the stuff. just my .02 The show is enjoyable, and I like the way they are trying to expose "competition" (and I use the term loosely) shooting to the masses. I just wish that they portrayed these guys more honestly. I can't imagine that any of them are prima donna's. Can't wait for the robin hood episode.
  12. Thanks guys. I'm going to double plug and start some timing drills tomorrow. "focus on my face. focus on my face."
  13. I've recently decided to try and get into some single stack matches. So I started practicing. I've changed my grip to a "proper" technique and been hitting the range ALOT, but I can't seem to get past the blinking as I fire. It screws up my sight-in and I'm always off on my second shot because i'm not following the sight. I searched through the topics, but I couldn't find anything other than double-plug or keep shooting. I've put about 2600 rounds through my 1911 in the last three weeks, but I can't force myself to keep from reacting. My flinch has receded. As I changed my grip and slowed down, I started squeezing the trigger and it helps keep from forcing the muzzle down before I fire. What really frustrates me is I shoot my .223 all the time without blinking. I shoot my .308 without blinking (most of the time). But that's where I come from, I've shot rifles much, much more than pistols. now that I'm getting into pistols, it's really bugging the crap out of me. Any advice for a newb? thanks all.
  14. I didn't get to come to the match. Doc Greyson has my 1911. He's having to do some extra work to it. The barrel is seating too high into the lug recesses. I've been having to bump the slide on just about every round. it was getting really frustrating. He'll get it fixed and I'll be at the next one come heck or high water. been practicing ALOT for it, about 800 rounds a week. I still suck bad, but I'm ready to have some fun.
