Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've been through 2 frames with broken rails on a G-35. The first at 28K, the second at 6K. Each was replaced with a new frame, promptly, but with different serial#'s. FYI, I've been told the problem has been fixed by using a rail mod on the new Gen-4's. I suspect this issue will also get better with the addition of the new recoil spring. I've had similar issues with G-23's on the front rail. The fronts get pounded and break off. Again, I think the new spring assembly will help.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I like the Dawson sights as well. I just prefer a deeper rear notch. I don't have any Bowmars to compare to. In terms of the light at the rear, I ment under the back where they hang over, not under the notch. I not sure the cost of burying sights is worth it either. All things considered, if adjustable sights is a must, I would still go with the Dawson, and deepen the rear notch. For fixed sights, I really like the Heine sights, with the front thinned to a hair over .100 or until you can start to see the sides of the screw hole.
  3. Iron was ment to be shot, not cleaned. 3-5K with my glocks. Add a little lube and go.
  4. It's definintely going to expensive. The rep has been telling me the scopes should be out and about and I figured someone would have had their hands on one by now.
  5. Has anyone tried the new Leupold 1.5-5x Mk4 scopes with the SPR reticle ? I had the opportunity to see the scope at the Shot Show but have not had the chance to "shoot" it. I am interested in some feedback regarding the reticle's use for 3 gun. Moderator Edit: This post was a new topic created by WJL. I merged it with this older topic.
  6. The Dawson rear is ok with two small issues. The sight is definintely not "buried"; I can see light under the rear of mine. Secondly, I found the rear notch to be very shallow. I had the depth of the rear notch cut down to the top of the elevation screw head and had a much better sight picture. On the up side, the installation is very simple and the sights seem to hold up to some decent abuse.
  7. FWIW: I have quite a few of the Arredondo basepads for use in my G-35. They have worked flawlessly with one side note. I use an older style Lightning Strike mag well. I had to make some very minor adjustments to the very top of a few of the base pads to make sure there was no hang-up and I got positive drop during reloads. After some very minor adjustments, they work great, are easy to clean, and have stood up to some major abuse.
  8. Jim Craig owns a company in Southern California that goes by the name SOTECH Special Operations Technologies He makes great gear that is 100% customized to your tastes and warranted forever. Check him out.
  9. FWIW: In search of the optimum barrel, I started with a 20", 1:8 Wilson air-gauged stainless bull barrel (.920 it's entire length) that I had cut to 18" and turned down to .750. I found the weight and the length to be about perfect with the full-length gas system. Upon return, the gun wouldn't shoot better than 2.0 MOA under good conditions. I returned the barrel and had it cryo-ed. Now with 75 and 77gr Black Hills ammo I can achieve better than 1 MOA. My guess (and that of the competent gunsmith who did the work) is stress had been introduced into the barrel as it was turned down. The cryo process relieved the stress. Either way, I ended up with a pretty good set-up. The gun now really shoots and I like the 1:8 twist with the bullets I shoot.
  10. I have a quad rail system on a rifle that places rails at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock postions. I am in search of an offset mount that would intergrate into or use the rail and allow for the mounting of a reflex type optic at 11 or 1 o'clock. I would like to use the reflex sight in conjunction with a magnified optic that is mounted on the flat top. Any suggestions ?
  11. As a new shooter to the 3-gun game, what are the particular rules governing the use of bipods ? If you are entered in a class that allows their use, does a bipod have to remain attached to one's gun at all times or is it permitted to remove/add the bipod depending on a particular stage ? Finally, do the rules differ for MGM, SSM or RM3G ? Any thoughts ?
  12. I am interested in feedback on the quality, durability of Springfield Armory scopes. Any comments ?
