What kind of gun was it?

i have noticed that cabelas prices has gone up. Primers are $7-$8 bucks higher. Boo

    Bersa Thunder 9 Pro Xt.

    Cabela’s wholesale was about $510 to $570.

In the past, they’ve offered me 70% of what they would resell the gun for (this is the max the employees are allowed to go to without manager override).  In this case, that would have equated to about $420.

Those were reasonable deals for everyone.

But $150?  They can go jump off a high bridge.

  2. I want to echo what I saw elsewhere.  The Shooter’s World Major I had from Grafs was notably slower than the major I got from Powder Valley.  This is just over the last couple of months.

The Graf’s would teeter totter on the edge of major no matter how much powder I put in under a 124 plated in 9mm.

Powder Valley is comfortably major a whole grain under the Graf’s sourced powder under the same 124 in the same gun.

Both were using Federal Small Pistol Magnum.

  3. The main thing here is to know where your gun hits and to be able to compensate for targets that are more than 15 yards from your zero.

I zero at 25 because I know my bore isn’t that far below my sight and the last thing I want is to consistently throw shots over the occasional 50 yard steel.

50 yard shots take the longest, so I want them to be likely to hit.  Follow up shots on a 1 meter target are speed of finger.

  4. I don’t think the solar function will be affected.  The majority of the solar we get is while holstered.  Assuming you have a standard vertical holster, sun exposure will be very similar - if not a little better with the solar panel facing completely away from your body.

if it’s not holstered and is laying on its side on a table, sun exposure will also be better.

In the past eight years shooting Open major, I've tried a variety of guns, comps, powders and bullets and here's what I shoot: 10.5gr of Shooters' World Major Pistol under a 115gr MG CMJ @ 1.160".

I think the powder is more important than the bullet weight or number of holes in the barrel, World Major, SP2, and N105 (38 super) are the best powders I've tried and if I couldn't make Major due to too short a barrel or too many holes, I'd use a heavier bullet before I used a faster powder.

If you've never loaded 11gr of N105 under a 115 and shot it out of your 38, you don't know what you're missing 😉

This, all day.  If you are worried about the noise or how soft an open gun feels, you won’t win.  KC could sometimes win back in the 147 days, but he was a beast and the competition is stiffer now.

Major pistol and 3n38 are the only powders that remind me of how 38 super feels when I’m shooting 9 major.  I’m sure N105 would do just as well, but it’s a big enough PITA loading Major or 3n38.

Well, you need to proof read your post before posting....like most of us....

The desire is actually quite easy to understand.  Nothing beats a nice single action trigger.  Put that with the capacity of a striker fired pistol and it's a win!!

I had to do it :D

How'd this go?  Did you all complete the purchase?  Any of you guys at the USPSA competitions around here?

  7. 1.jpg.992624744abe791087a3991a803a9bea.jpgI was thinking about selling it.  Made some long, stupid videos to advertise its reliability and performance.  Decided not to sell it.  Decided to share the videos so they weren't completely a waste of time.

Mini silhouette at about 11 yards, tombstone at about 15.

The thickness of the metal in the barrel and the slide is why.
I personally run a Glock in open, but after mountains of research have decided to stay away not only the safety/ reliability factor but in the end the lightness of the gun makes the gun recoil more than 200% more than say a heavy gun like a steel framed 2011, ipsc is shooting alphas as fast as you can and personally the benefit of major gets thrown out the window once you figure the recoil going with it in a Glock platform, you will score better and faster with a minor glock
I use auto comp and a ported barrel and the gun is stupid flat, which means you can double tap alphas instead of pulling regaining sight picture then pulling again. Now I still have a slide mounted reddot so my sight disappears every time I pull the trigger, but the gun is so flat it goes right back and I can pull again quickly and it sounds like a double tap. Just my personal opinion..

what kind of thread locker are y'all using for your compensators and how often do you need to reapply or does it come loose

Hot Lock and Resbond 907TS are the only truly suitable thread lockers for comp use.

That being said, the major Glock I ran at Area 3 used a crush washer just like an AR.

I clamped the barrel to a wood table while inside the slide and torqued it to spec.  Worked perfectly.

  10. Everglades makes my absolute favorite plated 124 grain ammo for major.  They only recommend 1200 fps, but there is absolutely zero leading in my gun at major.

Yesterday, through a stock tanfoglio barrel, I put 5 plated ammo rounds through a .7 inch hole at 25 yards. (What?!  With plated?!!)

I can’t use their loaded major ammo in the short chamber Tanfo though, loaded too long.

Let me clear the air a little and speak to my issues.  This is Paul by the way, who has been referenced a few times in this thread.  My initial issue was the problem (which has been mentioned in earlier post for this thread ) was around the disco, with the new coating it was very tight so debris got stuck and affected the trigger.  After we contacted PT, they immediately sent us (overnight) new disco that corrected the problem.

My other issue I had was self induced.  While putting the gun back together (the lower) I had got my safety stuck and couldn’t remove it due to it getting hung up on the sear spring.  The center leg of the sear spring was wedged between the sear and the disconnecter and I couldn’t move the safety at all   I had sent the gun back to PT and they quickly turned it around once they fixed it. (1 DAY), Again that issue was self induced.   Also a separate issue, while lightly sanding the front strap (extra aggressive) I inadvertently rubbed some of red anodized paint off of my red magwell, really was bummed out about that as it was essentially brand new.  Without any prompting, Brian had replaced with a new one with our me even asking them to fix that, which was a really nice surprise and I thought really good customer service.

Today (Sat.) had a match with the gun and it ran flawless and I really enjoyed shooting it.  The gun shoots very flat and ran great.  Overall my experience has been very positive, and they were quick to correct any issues and even problems that were caused by me and not the gun.

So that has been my experience so far with the gun, loving the Honco and they have addressed all my issues with a willingness to make things right for me.  That’s been much appreciated.

Glad they fixed your issue.  I meant Stephen when I said Paul before reference the extractor spring and stout ammo.  I got confused when Tiffany mentioned your name.

I stand by everything else I’ve said.

I’ve used Stephen’s ammo before, it ain’t the issue.

You should follow the advice you were given by the manufacturer which was to install the 2nd Aftec spring and report back. Changing loads, springs, and other parts all at once makes it difficult to determine the cause of an issue.

Im also curious to hear about this “rough fit” issue you reference.

Why did Paul do anything with the sear spring if his gun was working fine?

Didn’t you earlier in this topic say his ammo was too stout?

I have it on good information from people who looked at his gun prior to departure that the sear spring wasn’t fit right to begin with.

    Could they be wrong?  Sure.

But seriously, who here knows what Phoenix Trinity is and doesn’t know how to put in a sear spring?

Properly bending the legs in a sear spring with a brand new custom built gun?  I think I’d leave that to the manufacturer as well.

Some of my information may be wrong, but you repeatedly blamed the owner for stuff that wasn’t his fault in this thread. (2nd spring, stout ammo, and now sear spring)

  13. It’s funny, the other guy thought his post was long.  I think it’s about right-sized.  😄

I have a slightly different perspective than the other posters.  I have shot everything from an M&P and Glock open gun to CZ and Tanfoglio open guns to the highest end 2011s.

In my book, there are two main differences between the Glock and the 2011 - the 2011 has a better trigger and the 2011 can use lighter recoil springs (the striker spring acting against the recoil spring in a Glock means the lightest recoil spring most Glocks will ever be able to use is an 11 pounder - I’m shocked you are able to make an 11 work in your gun with how heavy that slide and barrel combo is)

When it comes to muzzle flip, an Open 2011 with an 11 pound recoil spring and an open Glock with an 11 pound recoil spring are shockingly similar if the same load is used and both comps are effective.

A couple others have stated one of the main issues with your open gun - it’s too long.  The comp is not using as much gas with the same load in a shorter barreled gun.

The second, less significant issue - the cheap mount.

I’ve used that mount.  It’s not terrible.  But, the metal Carver Custom mount is a lot better.

I see you have the major Carver Custom comp.  That comp is fine.  I had one of the fastest runs on a classifier type stage at Area 3 with that exact same comp and an open Glock I had literally owned for 3 weeks before the match.  I was also using a nylon belt and duck tape to keep my holster in place.

If you want to keep the same length open gun, the best way to compensate for the length would be to add popples so that the gas can be used earlier when it’s higher pressure.

Otherwise, one of the best Glock open guns I’ve ever used without popples was based on a Gen 5 Glock 45 (it’s an updated G19).

Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking you’ll ever have a gun that recoils flat.  The people who think their dot doesn’t move simply can’t see their dot move because of how quickly it moves.  I have run grand master classifier runs with a dot that flips every time.  The key is the return to center.

The least amount of flip you’ll ever see is in a Ruger 10/22 - and even that flips.

Even with the competitive disadvantages mentioned - with the right load and grip - you could make Master with your gun as it currently sits.

GM though?  That’s tough.  I don’t even know if KC Eusebio could do it with a comped g34 and a plastic scope mount.

Since you know Paul personally, ask him what the issue with his Honcho was.

I’m more interested in hearing your take on it.

We know the disconnectors were getting stuck in both guns, when sent from PT.  For both Paul and Stephen, it sounded like Phoenix Trinity was trying to convince them any fault with the guns was their ammo (it wasn’t).

If the 2nd spring in the Aftec fixed Paul’s gun - great.  But, why let a gun leave with too little extractor tension anyway?

Look, I’m glad there’s another fairly reasonably priced 2011 builder on the market making a quality gun.

Inevitably, custom 2011s are going to have some things that are overlooked.

They are usually easy fixes - rather if it’s extractor tension, ejector shape, mag feed lip tuning, or whatever.

But don’t come on a forum and act like it’s the owner’s fault in every case - is what I’m saying.  At least wait until you see the gun again before blaming the owner.

  15. 19 hours ago, MVPFc said:

Exactly. Just because we aren’t like other companies and will not broadcast when an issue is user error, doesn’t mean it’s an issue with the gun itself.

I would not go down this road.  I have shot with both of the owners being talked about in this thread and they both have a lot of experience with guns.

I’ve seen them shooting functioning 2011s before.

Rocket science and aerospace engineering derive all principles from physics. It's not too simple if it's correct.

Let’s talk about all the factors you’re not taking into account.

    1.  The forces in the other 300 degree of barrel where the holes do not exist.

    2.  That it still isn’t zero Pressure where the holes exist and that the low pressure area outside of the barrel will help pull more pressure from inside the barrel the entire time the bullet is exiting the barrel; as well as the bullet forcing more pressure out of those holes by blocking the frontal path of the burn.

    3.  That while that pressure is pulled, it is acting on additional barrel surface area created by the holes made through the barrel.

That additional surface area, as well as the other factors mentioned, applies additional force on the barrel and firearm to counteract the recoil made by the bullet being forced forward out of the barrel.

The reason we’re having this conversation is to see if and why popple holes work.  It isn’t an easy explanation.  We’re not going to get the best results by randomly drilling or edming holes in barrels.

So far, Schuemann has had the best popple design with his rocket nozzle style holes in the hybricomp barrels.

I would like to see someone put similarly effective holes in a “V” configuration with a super light weight slide and a titanium reverse gill comp (similar to Akai’s design) because Science, not conjecture, dictates that would be the best design.

And yes, there truly is only one best design.

    Um No

I took a class from him a few moths before the 2018 Nationals and he showed off his new Limcat and talked about his being sponsored by them, then I stood and watched him use it in person at the Nationals in Florida while wearing a Limcat shirt.  I did not see him personally shoot the 2019 Nationals, I did talk directly to one of his squad mates to see if he was using the new Beretta yet, and was told no he was shooting his Limcat, I have no reason to think I was lied to, and the videos I have seen from the match also seem to show him using the Limcat.

He was showing off the Beretta at the 2019 Nats I attended.  He had just gotten it a few weeks before the match.

The 2018 info goes against other info I was told.  I know there were points in 2018 with the Limcat, but I didn’t believe Nats to be one of those.

Either way, ports for horizontal axis control for the win.  Limcats been doing those for as long as I can remember.

I wonder why JJ and Eric dont post here

Me too.  Couple possibilities, one being they charge for the information they have and another being the sponsors want them to represent in a certain manner.

I don’t blame them if either reason is the cause, it’s just good business and I would do the same if I were in their shoes.

So I am a little confused,

in 2017   JJ shot a Tanfoglio to 8th place at 96.4%

in 2018 he shot a Limcat to 1st place Second place was 93.7%

in 2019 he shot a Limcat to second place at 98.7%

In 2018 he shot an xtreme Gold Team Tanfo to 1st place.

In 2019 he shot a custom Beretta 92X to second place.

Right?  Can anyone confirm?  I know when I met him in 2012 he was shooting a Limcat and that was when we had the discussion on v ports, as Limcat was the only 2011 builder doing that at the time.

Grauffell said in an interview with Saul Kirsch (in 2002/2003 IIRC) he used to shoot a STI/SV, but changed to a Tanfoglio because he had small hands and the grip fitted him better. Not because he thought Tanfo was a better gun.

I would love to have a current, recorded interview with him.  Or, at least encourage him to get on these forums and express his own, current opinion without influence from sponsors.  Same with JJ.

Last I checked x lbf pushing to the right and x lbf pushing to the left is zero lbf of externally applied load.  Unless physics has changed lately and fbd's no longer work.

Your equation is too simple.  You need rocket science / aeronautical engineering principles.

In a simplified explanation, A wing flies by encouraging external forces to not apply pressure on one side of the wing.  This is what creates movement or stabilization along one or multiple axes.
