  1. If you have a tall front sight such the one used with Dawson adjustable sights on your pistol that are taller than .200" or so and then combined with the stingray holster it is very likely possible the front sight will catch on the holster and thus you end up not being able to get your pistol out of the holster.

It happened to me at a local where I failed to test my new holster for my G34, the buzzer went off and I tried to draw my pistol, gave it a little tug and it would not come out, pulled a little harder and nothing still, then yanked on it and still would not come out. My buddies behind me were rolling on the ground laughing.

Ended up having to the holster apart to get the gun out, since the front sight was burried into the holster

  2. When trying to analyze this type of dynamic system one must understand the variable known as "e". E is a variable with a value from 0-1, essentially it is the engery lost during an impact between 2 objects. Unless you are shooting in an airless vaccum you will always lose a certain amount of energy during an impact. If very little energy is lost, then the closer e will be to 1.

It is almost impossible to predict the value of e but you can get fairly close with educated assumptions, if I had to guess I would say the slower moving heavy bullets have a higher e value thus making them transfer energy more efficiently to the target.

Of course e becomes zero if you miss the target, and will decrease rapidly as the angle between the approaching bullet and the target moves away from 90deg.

So in simple words, don't miss, and work on your shot timing first. Then you won't be so worried about the power factor

  3. I have worked up both 124 & 147 loads that were as hot as I could make them safely shoot out of a G34, and both have worked equally well. But I was able to achieve a slightly higher power factor with the 124's along with a bigger safety margin with regards to the powder charge weight varying slightly.

Basically what you are trying to do is work up towards a major powerfactor load, and shoot it out of a non-comped gun. CMJ'S worked best for me because they gave the longest OAL and greatest internal volume.

We all know that this is very dangerous and you must work up the load slowly. Because the gun your using makes a big difference.

  4. While the RO crew has a responsibility, and a large one at that, the shooter is responsible for their equipment. Unless NROI provides a shooter the equipment they use, it can only be the resposibility of the shooter.

When a shooter comes up and he in a division called "Limited" anything in USPSA, I know for a fact he cannot have an optic of any kind on any firearm. I would hope that a NROI trained RO would know that too.

Not quite, in multi gun the limited class shooters use a 1X optic or iron sights. It is a fairly new rule change with the new rule book. As opposed to the limited heavy metal shooters that must use iron's. This is probably what caused the confusion with the shooter.

  5. I usually use the Hornady 55gr FMJBT's for my blaster loads, but had to switch to the 55gr soft points since what's going on with supplies now. The OAL of the bullets are pretty close, so I am going to guess the loads with the 2 different bullets are pretty close.

Has anyone used both bullets with and had to to vary the charge or OAL for some reason? My powder preference is TAC or exterminator.

    Thanks

  6. This is yet another example of why USPSA needs to stay out of three gun, the rules they come up with are are ludacris, and don't focus on the big picture, which is having a fun match. Instead you get a super complex scoring system. Which thankfully is gone, and a different set of rules than all the other "outlaw matches". When is USPSA going to realize they are the outlaws and all the other matches are normal.
Putting on an event called the nationals, then fail to check any compedators equipment. Then say that since no-one contested the results is pitiful, that is the responsibility of the match staff, period.

I like XXXXX and he is a good guy but everyone makes mistakes, when the rules are changed a few weeks before the match. And I know for a fact he did not take the highest value prize off the table.

So if he indead used a red dot, he should loose the title and it should be given to Jeff Gross regardless of the amount of time after the match is concluded.

  7. Mine did that too loading SMK 69gr. i think it was cause the softer jacket. i took my dremel and smoothed out the hard line on the seating insert then put 400 grit sandpaper rolled up in a drill and cleaned it up. then polished it. made it round and not a hard machined line.

This is the first thing you should do, but it may also be an indicator that you have too much neck tension

  8. I size 75% of the neck with a sizing die first and the last 25% with the trimmer die. This gives 2 advantages, it keeps the case from spinning, and it also results in a more consistent trim length. I also expand the neck after the trimmer to control neck tension on the bullet. The result is lets me load long range ammo that is very accurate and consistent.

  9. A friend of mine wanted to open up the loading port of his FNH SLP, and he did a very nice job bringing the port futher forward and putting a nice radius on the sides of the port. Here's where it goes south, he was then hand cycling dummy shells through his gun and the shells were not ejecting out of the tube as they should, they were getting caught on the lip between the mag tube and receiver. So he smoothed out the transition between the tube and receiver, and there is the problem. Now there is nothing to keep the follower from coming out of the tube.

What are the options to correct this issue, or any reccomendations of who would be the right person to perform the work.

  10. I just dealt with this issue specifically a couple months ago When extreme was almost the only thing I had available. My findings were...

Yes the plating will hold up. I shot a couple hundred at 1480 fps with no breakdown issues. The problem was accuracy. I don't know if the bullet didn't like the speed or my barrel but the accuracy was absolutely terrible. Like 6"-8" groups at 15 yards when my Zero JHP that I shot in the same session were 1"-2". I played with OAL, crimp and couldn't get them to work. I shoot a Glock open gun with a KKM barrel so depending on what you have YMMV.

I had the same issues, with accuracy out of my stock G34. For those doubters the rounds were crimped correctly, with no crimp.

  11. Does anyone have a roller bearing kit on the shell plate for their Super 1050? I am looking for the dimension's the roller bearing and thrust washers used in the kit. My 1050 is still on order and I would like to order a roller bearing set for it. I believe there are several suppliers that sell this size bearing off the shelf at considerably less than what they are goin for on ebay.

Or if someone can tell me in ID of a 1050 shell plate, that would give me a good place to start.

  12. I went to the range to get some trigger time, set up my MGM spinner and 3 full size USPSA papers. The drill was spin the spinner and engage the paper, each target is spaced 5 yards apart from the spinner. From the surrender position.

I ran through the array 4-5times and my best time was my second run

    Run 1- 10.01 4 A's , 2 C's ( worst run with several misses on the steel)

Run 2- 6.83 Sec with 5 alpha a one Charlie on the paper

    Run 4- 8.19 all A's

Shooting my 40 cal limited gun, I am pretty damn happy with that.
