  1. The hammer on my limited gun wouldn't cock. My buddy who knows more about this than I do took it appart and noticed that the left finger of the sear spring was not engaging the sear. The small bend on the bottom of the sear spring that keeps in in place was bent out and allowed the sear spring to move all the way to the left. A new sear spring solved my problem.

  2. I like my Blackhawk gear. The carbon is a bonus if you into the coolness factor like I am. They match my carbon fiber grips. The only thing I don't like about them is that I had a few people tell me they extend too far out than what is allowed in the single stack division. They pass the credit card test but I had an RO question it right before a run which threw off my concentration.

  3. 20 Rounders - D & H Teflon w/ Magpul Follower

    30 Rounders - Labelle Teflon w/ Magpul Follower, D & H Teflon w/ Magpul Follower, HK Gen 2

    40 Rounders - PMI w/ Magpul Follower

    45 Rounder - DPMS

    100 Rounder - Beta

I take all of the above with me to the matches and have used all of them at one time or another without any problems.

I tried the cheap 40 round steel mags which worked well for 1 year but the lips bent apart and it was double feeding. The PMI has been going strong for 4 years. I'm hoping C Products will come up with a good 40 rounder.

  4. Overall, it was a great match that ran smoothly. I’d like to thank everyone that made it happen. I would like to work the match at least once to see what it’s like but I’m not looking forward to shooting all the stages in 1 day. Hopefully,I get in next year.

On the trigger thing, that was me who got a stage DQ on back in 2005 that SinistralRifleman mentioned. I had a JP kit I installed myself. It has never doubled on me for over a year (I still have that trigger in that rifle and it has never doubled). On that stage, I was moving fast and shooting fast and bounced the trigger twice. The second time I was stopped. I immediately told the RO that I bounced the trigger and the rifle didn’t double. The bounce happened both times after my second shot on paper which I could understand made it look bad but there were 3 holes in the paper so it was controlled. The ROs wouldn’t listen, they ruled my rifle went full auto and gave me a stage DQ. Since then, I installed a 2 stage and never looked back. I want to make sure this situtation doesn’t happen again even though I know I’m right.

  5. I have to agree with Taran and Kelly. Hopefully, they'll listen to the advice of some of the top shooters.

I thought the stages didn't make you think enough but they were fun. Stage 3 and 8 were the only one I thought where you really need to figure out a game plan. Unfortunately on 3 you couldn't do a test run on the roller coaster to make sure your plan will work. Stage 8 was the only one where the ROs didn't let you walk the stage except for the 5 minutes prior to your squad shooting. They actually kicked people off the stage even if there was no squad shooting it.

I hope someone comes up with a device that can throw clays consistently after it's activated by the popper. On stage 4, I missed a clay because one of the doubles flew low and towards me. For almost everyone else in our squad, it went straight up and pretty high. There is too much variation of the trajectory just from the placement of the clay on square pad.

I wish there were more shotgun rounds per stage. I like multi gun stages and would like to see more of them. I think those are the funnest stages.

The roller coaster wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and was a lot of fun. I got a little worried when I saw a lot of guys getting multiple FTN and FTE.

  6. Looks interesting. It could come in handy for those high round count stages like in Iron Man but I don't know about standard stages. I think I'd be just as fast from my side saddle and forearm - that's 16 rounds combined. With 9 already in the gun, I don't see myself needing more than that. I still woundn't mind trying it out but the price makes that an expensive trial and error experiment.

  7. I use the Blackhawk Padded Weapons Case. It holds 2 long guns and has a padded pocket for your pistol. I like to keep all my weapons in one bag. It's 44 inches long so it might be a little tight for you. It worked great with my Remington with a 4 round extension tube but is really tight with a 5 round extension tube.

  8. Recently my Benelli M1 has been jamming. When it would try to chamber a round, the front of the round would hit the lip at the 12 o'clock position and stop. This lip is on the barrel right before the chamber. It doesn't happen all the time. The strange thing is it didn't happen before and I didn't change anything. I've been shooting Federal stuff from Walmart. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

  9. I saw the box at the front door when I came home from work and it felt like X-Mas again. I hurried and opened the box only to find out I got the wrong part. Now I have to pay to ship it back and for the dealer to ship me the correct one - double whammy.

I hate it when that happens!!!

  10. Flippers seem so inconsistent as to where they will put the birds, I am reluctant to shoot one then another target then go for the birds. At least 50% of the time I see people do this they miss one or more of the birds.

This past weekend a flipper that had launched clays about 12-14 feet in the air for everyone else, launched one only about 2-3 feet off the ground towards me. I tagged it...but it was pretty funny.

If the birds are bonus targets, I usually do not shoot them as the -5 seconds bonus isn't worth the time it takes to engage the target and then load another shell to me anyway.

On that same stage, the 1st clay went 10' up. I was able to hit 2 plates off the texas star before engaging the clay. The second clay only went up 3' and torwards me. It ended up landing 5' in front of me. I only hit 1 plate from the star before I saw what happened and I tried to hit the clay. By that time, it was too close and too low. My pattern was too small at that close range. I got a shot off but didn't hit it. It's a gamble. You win some and lose some.

  11. It started to snow after I shot my last stage. It reminded me of last year's SMM3G. I'm glad I was the 1st shooter on the last stage because the rain and snow didn't let up after the first 2 shooters. Overall, it was a fun match but not as difficult as last year but I'm not complaining.

I'm still waiting for my free lunch and breakfast and a shirt that has "2007 WSSS" printed on it. :)

  12. I've got an HK 93. It's heavy, the trigger is horrible (compared to my AR), it's expensive, magazines aren't cheap, the handguard gets pretty hot and the scope mounts too high for my liking. It's a cool looking rifle but I don't think I'd ever use it for 3 gun.

  13. I had a chance to try a Timney trigger at the last gunshow and I was very impressed but I never tried a JP so I can't compare the two. It is said to have a 3 lb pull (but feels less) and has a very short reset. There is almost no rear movement before it releases the hammer. It only comes in single stage. The nice thing about the Timney is that it uses standard pins and has set pins to keep the unit snug in the receiver and the price is right. It is not adjustable but it felt good out of the box. I wonder how it will hold up in time. I'd be worried about accidentally bouncing the trigger while shooting on the move.

  14. The only thing I can criticize is the scoring system. Some people got confused as to which targets got a -1 bonus. To keep things simple, all steel needs to be knocked down and you get a +5 penalty if you don't. I don't think steel should get a -1 bonus. Disappearing targets are a different story-flying clays and rabbits.

Anyway, it was a great match. I just wish I didn't shoot so poorly - 29 seconds in penalties won't get it done. Congrats to the winners. It kills me that I missed taking a plaque home by 0.71 seconds. It's too bad we have to wait another year for a match like this.

    Thanks Jay.
