Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. that's why I bought my 650 from you brian! you rock hardcore!!!! Any opinion on the BL550?
  2. I've got a 650 already that I use for 9s and 45s, but I really got into long range rifles lately. I've been looking at getting another press and saw that Dillon offers this basic press which is totally fine by me. I would hand check every charge and such with the rifle load. I only check the pistol charge every 10th or 15th because its always spot on. I notice Brian doesn't offer this press though. Is it something I can get through him or go through Dillon. I really only need the press and upgrade the handle, maybe a strong mount. I'm just old school in the thought of not using a progressive for precision rifles, I know I know I'm being anal about it but that's the way I am.
  3. yes, thanks for the info. Unfortunately it is my issued duty weapon and they won't let me play with it. I'll just stick with .451s in it and use my .452's in my 1911
  4. Yeah it won't chamber fully. Or if it does, it locks the slide forward where it takes a large amount of force to clear the pistol
  5. I've been seeing an unusually high number of my lead cast .452's being no where near close to correct headspacing. I've had no issues with .451's. Am I doing something wrong or should I just tighten down a touch on my last station?
  6. I agree, I've had one malfunction in the 8 or so years I've reloaded now. And it was my like 10th round ever loaded. The bullet wasn't crimped enough and fell out I've never seen him work on the AR's, just train us on them.
  7. yeah, i'm just saying training. I use only issued ammo for duty, but they don't provide funds or ammo for "practice." Yet we are expected to maintain proficency.... Our armorers are SWAT guys who have unlimited county funds to buy ammo and don't understand how much ammo costs for the type of training needed to truely stay proficient. It's easy to shoot perfect groups when you get about 600 rounds a month and get paid to shoot them.... I shoot IDPA with my department issued XD45 and use nothing but reloads in it when competing or practicing because I can reload for half the cost (free brass is nice). I know there is no way they can watch me every minute to ensure I don't use reloads as we have about 60 patrol rifle certified officers.... I'm also trying to show them that my reloads are as accurate if not more accurate than the federal stuff they provide for requals. So no one has any data to backup what I'm being told???? I didn't expect it because I spoke with a gunsmith friend of mine who designed most of the DPMS line and he had no idea what I was talking about. Think it's a CYA thing for the department.... Just venting and upset because on my rifle rounds I hand inspect each round and hand weigh each charge, I only do this about every 10th round of 45acp.
  8. I'm a police officer and was told today that AR's, specifically Rock River AR's, do not like reloads.... This was told to me by my departments rifle instructor which was told to him by the instructor of his armorer's school. The issue is with primers falling out (?????) and falling into the receiver (again ?????). He won't let us use reloads to train with or qualify with. I found this extremely unusual because the issues would be with the one reloading and not the products from my expierence. Has anyone heard anything even close to this?
  9. 90 officer police department, qualify 4 times a year, all required to carry 45 acp...... I've got several thousand yet to be tumbled and prepped and probably 10k tumbled.... Also we now carry 223s and qual twice a year 250 rounds per qual per officer.
  10. mat, I understand your clearing process. Yes I do need a case gauge, I don't have a 45 acp one. Also why are all my loads producing so much more smoke than factories? Not a problem I was just curious
  11. I was at the range today and ran into a little problem. I was shooting my XD-45 with 5.8 grains of WSF pushing a 230 grain LRN. The problem is on my last round, the didn't return to battery all the way and I could not move the slide, which had a round mostly chambered. I got the pistol home and was able to eject the round by putting the slide in my gun vice and applying a little force. Did I have the bullet seated to low or something causing a little bulge in the case??? I haven't been able to replicate the problem and don't want it to happen again. Any help would be great. Also I've had no issues with plated bullets, but LRN have been problematic.
  12. Found an awesome vacuum for the system at Lowes today. It fits on a 5 gallon bucket and works like a wet/dry vac for only $15!
  13. thanks guys. Dropping a round in, it chambers just fine. It's just the ejection I'm worried about and if it will have any adverse affects on my gun.

where did you find the stool??? I've been looking for a stool but no one has them unless you want to pay over $100.
  15. I recently started loading 230gr RN lead bullets from Oregon Trails. I noticed that the case bulged slightly where the bullet seated that I hadn't noticed with copper plated bullets. I've seen this before so I didn't take much notice, but I has an upside primer on one of them so I decided to test it with my XD 45. I loaded the round into a magazine (after removing the primer and powder) and chambered the round. It seemed just fine but when I tried to extract the round, the slide jammed up almost immediately. I racked the slide HARD and the round came out, striking the ceiling of my garage. I thought this isn't right so I went to my PD and used a bullet trap we have there (it's 3am here so no ranges open). I took some loaded rounds and tried the same thing. Every round had the same problem where it would lock up the slide when I racked. After about 4 tries with the same round, the problem seems to have gone away but I don't want to work loaded rounds through a firearm 4 times each. Does anyone have expierence with this? Am I seating the bullet too deep??? I checked my calipers and the lenght of the round is 1.275-1.277 (DEAD ON). Also do you think this would affect the gun when fired with regards to too high of pressure or something along those lines???? Please help (and I did a search but couldn't find anything similar)
