Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Uh oh... I just said "922r" and will immediately apologize for bringing up yet another +5 round Benelli question. If using a Nordic or DMW extension tube, does that constitute as part #18 in the 922r components list? I ask because it is only an extension of the existing imported tube. I am looking to re-vamp my M1S90 tactical (18.5") with the following, and am doing my homework to make sure that it will be legitimate: 1) Nordic follower 2) Nordic extension tube 3) Bell & Carlson buttstock 4) Bell & Carlson forearm
  2. Necro-post! I ride the trigger and actually feel the reset, even on the < 15yd shots. With that being said, a friend of mine took a training course where the instructors advised to not prep the trigger. Their reasoning was that prepping the trigger and applying a constant pressure up till trigger pull will cause most shooters to begin making lateral movement with the rifle. Interesting thought.
  3. My experiences with the Fast Mag Gen3 products have been positive. Although unconventional in the 3-gun community, I have them on a Blue Force Gear SOC-C MOLLE belt as a quick/dirty method of donning/removing spare ammunition during range sessions and classes. This setup has proved to be effective for my needs and the Fast Mags have taken a beating while getting my shots off in unorthodox shooting positions. One of my Fast Mag fastener "rubber bands" has a good chunk taken out due to debris on a shooting range.
  4. Out of curiosity, how did they fail? I have one of their slings and I like it, though I admit I haven't used it a lot. So far the only problem I've ran into is that the webbing can get twisted inside the adjustment buckles but I couldn't tell you how that happens because I haven't done it, other people have done it to my sling when playing with it. I'm also a bit worried that the quick release might be to easy to release if you snag your gear on something, but so far no problems. Personal Observation from a LMS Defense class: Two Magpul MS2 slings came apart resulting in carbines falling to the deck. In both cases, the strap that loops through the D-ring and then back through the tri-glide buckle, loosened itself out of the the buckle (see attached pic). At the very least, users need to be aware that the strap's end needs to be looped back through the buckle one more time or the strap's end needs to be taped in place. Personal Observation from a Stone Cobra Tactical Carbine 1 & 2 class: Same as above.
  5. VTAC all the way. I've seen three to four MS2s come apart in the class and I might get chastised by Magpul fans on other sites, but I haven't seen a decent enough practical need for a single point setup. Yes, I realize that the MS2 can switch to a 2-point "just like that." I used to belong to the single point fan club, but got tired of getting staff-whaffs by my own carbine when the rifle would hang.
  6. Hahaha Thanks for the welcome, folks.
  7. I'm a BCM Gunfighter Mod4 convert as of 01/02/2010 and have them installed on four of my rifles/carbines. The issues that I was having with the PRI Big Latch were broken charging handle latch roll pins. They would begin to either walk out and get damaged or shear off altogether through repeated use. The BCMs are holding up just fine so far.
  8. I installed a Geissele DMR trigger in one of my rifles and am acclimating myself to the 2-stage behavior of the trigger. So far, so good. When practicing/shooting do you folks tend to consciously take up the 1st stage slack, then pull through the second stage with trigger prep? Or do you just go whole hog and pull the trigger when you have the sight picture that you want? When running some forward shoot-on-the-move dry runs this evening I noticed that whenever I would take up the first stage slack and prep the trigger, my dot/sights would begin to bounce around laterally. However, when I just pulled through during a good sight picture I found that my sights were able to get on target faster with MUCH less lateral movement - pretty much the proverbial vertical movement was what I saw. Is this shooter doing something drastically wrong?
  9. Thanks for the input. I appreciate them. Looks like the appropriate answer is if you have the opportunity and ability, then take the shot while moving. I'm not on here to say "tactical" this and "tactical" that. Just looking for insight to improve my ability and capability.
  10. Hahaha Hey, I work for the DoD. Acronyms are our specialty. SOTM = Shoot On The Move.
  11. If you don't mind me asking, what is your philosophy for SOTM? That is a very broad and general question that probably has as many variations for answers. During the classes, that I have taken SOTM was practiced at distances from 10-15 yards in forward and lateral movement. Some forward and backward movement was done 50yds on in. Is practice at distances greater than 15yds beneficial? A little history about myself: 1) Three USPSA matches under my belt - that's it. 2) I'm biased around the "tactical" training/practice side of things. 3) I realize, appreciate and understand the impact that the practical shooting community has provided the "tactical" community. 4) 3-gunners have something that I could learn from. Just trying to become a more capable shooter.
  12. I'm new to this forum and have just recently taken a few "tactical" courses these past few months after a four to five year hiatus from shooting. Back in 2004-2006 I used to lurk, but now want to hone my shooting skills and increase capability. I do not compete, but have run in two to three USPSA matches prior to my hiatus. Aside from marksmanship, issues that I need to work through are shooting on the move and leading with my eyes. Well, I know that everything needs work, but those two are some biggies for me.
  13. Very interesting technique. Any video/pictures of this in use?
