  1. BTW, here's the LINK to the Sportsman's Guide Voodoo bags.

Just got my 46" Voodoo Tactical Bag from Sportsman's Guide after following this discussion. Am well pleased with it (especially for the price....after coupons it was barely more than $50) - very well thought out design, and I love the extra webbing on the outside that will accept extra MOLLE pouches of your choice.

    Thanks for the recommend!

I can't say enough good things about the 46" Voodoo bag I got from SG a month ago! Tons of storage for accessories and guns. One thing I did add was a couple of SAW mag pouches (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=556341). I can put extra boxes of shotgun shells in one and my PMAG coupled mags from Springer Precision in the other.

  2. Talking about a price around $750-850.

That's an excellent price point for the MSRP! Looking forward to additinal info and this hopefully being available in 2011. Benny I hope Mossberg is forward thinking enough to anticipate a "high demand" for this product, builds up a decent level of stock before releasing it, and is able to resupply the market in a timely matter. ;)

  3. Although it might have been a little light on "action" I felt it was one of the better shows all season. I thought the inclusion of 3D stage virtual walk through was an excellent addition. To those of us that shoot we can look at a stage and "know" what's going on based on our past experiences. Those that have never even seen a competitive stage are lost, and trying to explain it to them is a real challenge.

I also liked that the "pro" tip this week was with Mike Voigt and that in addition to the tip there was some decent air time given to USPSA as an organization. As this sport continues to grow(hopefully), USPSA is just one of several gateways by which new shooters can enter this sport. Your local USPSA match(es) are not a bad place to sharpen up your pistol skills in the off weeks from your local 3gun match(es) either. ;)

Looking forward to the conclusion of season 1 over the remaining episodes.

  4. Quote from the 3-Gun Nation Facebook page:

"Catch our new shows on VERSUS Mondays and Thursdays. 3 all new episodes set to begin airing November 15th, starting with the USPSA Multi-Gun event taking place prior to our championship."

This weeks show was the RM3G repeat so next week will likely pick up with 1-2 shows covering USPSA MG Nats, then 2-4 shows covering the 3Gun Nation Finals. I don't think we will see Ozark 2010 until well into 2011.

    Edited to add Youtube link

  5. I don't think they do the zip off legs, but I can't say enough good things about the EOTAC pants. I tried 511 Tactical pants and they just didn't work for me. Nice pants but the fit wasn't right (waist band to high, i like a lower waist band so it doesn't impede with my belly B) ).

Thumbs up on the EOTAC pants and proper "tactical tummy" clearance! Just got a pair yesterday and am much more impressed with the fit, finish, and pockets on them than my TRU Spec EMS pants. I went with the "heavy" ones for winter, but will be ordering a pair of lightweight ones for Spring.

  6. I have a recently purchased XDM also, but have been nothing but impressed by it's accuracy. I agree that it is likely not the Indian in this instance. Have you tried it with factory 115gr or 124 gr FMJ's to see how it does? If it shoots them like a scattergun also then you might need to get on the phone with Springfield CS.

  7. Okay guys, I have been helping Mossberg out on this deal, and I have been informed that the 24" NON-PORTED barrels are soon on the way! The samples are in hand and a production run is eminent. Stay tuned for more Mossberg anouncements!

The one I have has, so far, run 100% but I don't have a lot of rounds theough it yet. I will try to keep you all posted , but I have to run stuff by Mossberg first. KurtM

Kurt do you know if there is any chance the new Competion 930's may also have a 22" barrel? Both of my local matches still abide by the 22" maximum rule for shotgun barrel length.

  8. Try this one:

    http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?167-Mossberg-930-SPX-Review'>http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?167-Mossberg-930-SPX-Review

    or this

    http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum

type "930 SPC" into the search bar (top right)

The search function doesn't actually work, but it does have a recent search function which has a link to 930 SPX review.

To the OP I am in a similar boat except I have a Rem 1100 I'm presently using so waiting 6 months to a year really isn't an issue for me. I'd also be HIGHLY surprised if the Competition 930's exceed $750-800 MSRP. Dependent on your buget and level of patience waiting might be a very prudent option, although I doubt you'd suffer any buyers remorse with a FNH.

  9. My personal preference for carrying 60 rounds on a stage is the FASTMAG .223 Pmag Coupler from Springer Precision(Store >3 Gun Accessories). I read about it here and after using it in several matches concur that it one of the best inventions since sliced bread. ;) My local matches have been doing some stages of late with three shooting positions and mandatory reloads between positions. While most guys are looking for a place to place a 3rd mag on their belt all I have to worry about is swapping between mags. Reloads are quick and clean, and the large footprint of the coupler is great for shooting prone or off of other improvised shooting positions.

  10. Gun is 24" field with V.R. and porting. If you cut porting out it is 20". They are makeing up a special run of un-ported barrels for me @ 24".

Good to know about the un-ported barrels. Any chance they may drop the length to 22" ? My local matches have a 22" max restriction. A 930 is much more in my price range than a FNH or Benelli.

  11. I was wondering if anybody out there could explain the logic behind a 22" maximum length barrel rule for a shotgun? Two of my local matches use that rule and I believe their use stems from this rules document: Rule 6.6.3

    http://www.3gunrules.com/documents/multi-gun-rules/img-rules/img-2003-basicrules.pdf

I've noticed that USPSA and many of the major 3gun matches do not impose this restriction. I understand that each match does their own thing, but isn't 24" a little more practical when you consider the amount of factory models that come with a 24" barrel and variable chokes instead of a "defense" style gun with 18.5 inch barrel and typically a cylinder bore?

I've been looking into a new shotgun and other than a Benelli M2 (18.5) and FNH Mrk1(22") the choices are a bit limited. I'm interested to see what the new Mossberg 930 competion models have to offer. I'm hoping it's not a 24" barrel.

  12. I dont own a pump scattergun, my scattergun is an autoloader. I like the idea of the production class but all it really boils down to is more rules ...... do we really need MORE rules?

I see your point about keeping rules to a minimum, too many rules or divisions can be a bad thing. USPSA pistol does have six successful divisions and rule sets though. The discussion of a Production 3 gun division is probably enough of a thread drift and I don't want to threadjack this thread so I'll go ahead and start a new topic in the near future when I have some time to ponder a few more of the details. :)

  13. I can't remember the posters name who had the idea but I like the idea of a production division for three gun. Basically production rules for the pistols from USPSA. Pump shotgun only, Iron sighted rifle only. It would be cheap for someone to get into the game.

    Pat

I recall seeing this idea previously and think it is a GREAT idea for an entry level division due to it's lowered economic barrier of entry! Utilizing any Production legal pistol(top off the mags though), an off the shelf open sighted (irons or dot) non-compensated AR with 30 rnd mags, and a basic pump shotgun (Benelli Nova, Rem 870, Moss 500) just add a tube so it's 8+1. You could get a new shooter into the 3gun game for roughly $2k and likely even less. The mythical Tactical Redneck with his new Black rifle and Glock might actually already have a shotgun he could compete with. I don't see this division being recognized at any of the major matches, but the local level matches could give it a go and see how the turnout is. It shouldn't negatively impact any of the existing divisions participation. I know I'd be willing to shoot my pump and M4 clone occasionally instead of my normal TO gear just so I've got some trigger time with my gear for the Zombie Apocalypse.

  14. How well do the BDC's work with handloads that may not have the same velocity or weight that the reticle is calibrated for?

It will depend on how the reticule is calibrated. However, if you know what each BDC dot equals in MOA, your bullet weight, BC, and velocity. Then you can play around with a ballistics calculator (LRBC) to work out what each BDC dot is based on your zero and specific handload.

  15. I would buy two and duct tape one out near the end of the barrel. It's supposed to help with the barrel harmonics...

To fully optimize the barrel harmonics would the duct tape need to be applied with the twist of the rifle or opposite it (RH vs LH twist)? I agree black duct tape is way more tacticool than silver. I don't know anything about a train but I am familiar with a bus.....:D

  16. I'm quite fond of my BDC reticule and the 69gr load I've worked up for it. When having to engage multiple targets at various ranges I find it much faster than "dialing" and I find great comfort in having a BDC dot as a reference point instead of holding Kentucky windage. My scope of choice for the money is a Vortex Viper 2x-7x BDC, click on the SPECS tab for detailed info on the reticule layout. Input your zero and load data into their LRBC program and you can have a very good idea at what ranges the BDC dots are. Best price I've found recently has been at SWFA.

  17. post apocalyptic world with no Zombies = .308 M1A ; I want to engage targets at maximum distance and drop them with one shot.

post apocalyptic world with Zombies = AR platform with a supressor; noise, follow ups shots, and the amount of ammo you can carry are the deciding factors for me here.

One "reference" source nobody has mentioned yet is World War Z by Max Brooks. Great read BTW.

  18. I recently purchased the Taylor Freelance from SSS and am quite pleased with them so far. I did have to take a file to the back legs of the follower, which was catching at 18 rounds, in order to load the full 23 rounds. It's quite a tight fit with 23 and the mag will not seat on a closed chamber. I'm going to leave them fully loaded for awhile and see if that helps or just run them with 22 rounds.

  19. Let me say that again. I can probably arrange to have Kurt lead a class at RockCastle with 1 or more assistant instructors. The facility is huge and we can manage a larger group of people.

This and or a class in WV sounds very appealing to me. I was already planning on shooting the BRM3G in April so Rockcastle really isn't too far awa for me.

  20. I think Jesse said it best:

Every tactical red neck has a glock or 1911 and an AR15 but most only have the shotgun that is setup for bird and turkey hunting or skeet/trap/clays.

I fall into the tactical redneck category as do many others I know. I had a friend convince me to come watch a local 3gun and USPSA match late last summer. After spectating at both I decided I no longer wanted to spectate and wanted to compete. Fortunately for me I had a pistol that would work well in USPSA Production division and 3gun as well as a suitable AR. My only limiting factor for 3gun was the shotgun. I had an older Rem1100 to begin with and in a few months had the the financial resources to convert it into an acceptable form for 3gun ( 22" barrel w/4 shot extension tube).

I started USPSA late last Fall and 3gun this Spring; and I am hooked on competitive action shooting! I am fortunate enough to have three excellent monthly pistol matches locally and two 3gun matches. I really enjoy the pistol matches and the rifle and pistol portions of the 3gun matches, but the shotgun aspect I just do not find appealing. My previous shotgun experience is from many years of trap, skeet, and sporting clays. Aside from some interesting slug shots the emphasis I have seen placed on the shotgun is not how well the competitor can shoot the shotgun, but instead how fast can they reload it or whom can start with the most shells in their guns. I understand from my USPSA shooting that clean, quick, and properly timed reloads are crucial to a successful stage. That same principle applies to 3gun shotgun, but the target presentations I've seen for shotgun just feels lacking to me. I'm used to engaging challenging dynamic targets with a shotgun not "hosefest" statics, rinse and repeat 2-3 times per stage from one shooting position. I recognize that it may be a result of space limitations that locally we don't often shoot one array, move to a second position while reloading, then engage a second array of targets, so on and so forth.

I've spoken with several people at the various pistol matches about why they didn't shoot 3gun and almost every one of them responded with one of two answers:"I used to, but I just don't like the shotgun portion" or "I have the pistol and AR, but no suitable shotgun and don't want to/have to spend $$$ on a shotgun".

I applaud what the 3Gun Nation folks and FNH are doing to increase awareness of 3gun. I feel the TV show and articles on the website have done an outstanding job of presenting the sport in a most favorable of light. However, I still feel that the deciding factor for many people that want to get into 3gun will be the economics of the third gun (typically shotgun). I have to agree with the OP that their is an untapped market out there for rifle & pistol or rifle only matches. I hope in the very near future some individuals or an established organization recognizes this market potential, step up, and establish another great shooting discipline for us to compete in.
