  1. Bicycle riding gloves.....the kind where the end of each finger/thumb is missing. I never have to take them off for doing things like taping targets, etc. I started wearing them after doing 4 day handgun courses where your hands started to get kind of beat up. (OK, I'll admit...typing on a keyboard for a living doesn't do much for calluses.)
  2. SF = shot string memory is full. (3rd page of owner's manual)
  3. Lots of folks are shooting the XDs9 now. Saw three sitting on the shelf at the LGS just yesterday. The XDTalk site as a sub-forum just for the XDs. Lots of recent info concerning the 9mm. I'm content at this point with my XDs45.
  4. Yeah...well, the web site said they were 1 oz. a couple of years ago....that is why I kept asking. Joer...thanks for taking the time to cut one open. The below data was copied from the review (on my web site) that I did a couple of years ago. I used my FNH SLP Mk1 and a PACT chronograph # of Shots: 5 Lowest Velocity: 1156 FPS Highest Velocity: 1177 FPS Average Velocity: 1168 FPS Standard Deviation: 8.2 FPS Grouping: 2.4" @ 50 yds Barrel Choke: Improved Cylinder
  5. So....has anyone cut a shell open and actually weighed the slug?
  6. I've got a case (200 count) of B&P I bought a year or two ago. I pulled one of the rounds apart and measured the slug....slightly less than 7/8 oz. Are they really packing a 1 oz. slug in this new batch now? Hopefully so....I found that my SLP, after it got a little dirty, didn't reliably cycle the 7/8 oz. version.
  7. Not seeing the problem you mentioned. I always get some plastic fouling....even when shooting just Federal bulk packs from Walmart. My cleanup, after the 4 day course, was about the quickest one I've had since owning my SLP. I've never had that high of a round count before cleaning the barrel so I was quite satisfied with the performance of everything I shot.
  8. From the 2010 review I did on the B&P slugs: Last week, I wrapped up a 4 day shotgun course in which I shot approximately 200 rounds of B&P slugs (out of nearly 750 rounds of 12 gauge loads). Using my SLP Mk1, I did see early on failure to fully cycle issues after the shotgun had seen about 150 rounds earlier in the day. I was using the less than 1.5 oz piston. A quick cleaning/lube in the piston area got it back on track. I've no doubt that the 1200 FPS and 7/8 ounce weight is the main reason for this performance. On the accuracy side, I was getting solid 100 yard hits, off hand, on steel and fairly good performance out to 150 yards. At 200 yards, it was starting to act more like an artillery round....once heck of an arc to get it on target.
  9. I picked up some of these a couple weeks back....soft shooting they are. In a freshly cleaned FNH SLP Mk1, they don't throw the hulls out there very far (compared to other brands), but they are accurate. Just for grins, I sliced one open to see what it looked like. Tossed the slug on the digital scale. 371 grains which is just under 7/8 ounce. If you wonder why your gun may not cycle them, you are shooting a reduced velocity 7/8 ounce load. Out of my 22" barrel, they clocked right around 1170 FPS. I don't mind....but I do wish the box was properly marked. They are not 1 ounce slugs.
