Hey all, I've been lurking here for a few years without registering, but I decided I needed to ask some questions before jumping into shooting. I really don't have much experience at all. I've shot trap a couple times using a 12 gauge, 10 gauge, and a 410 and seem to have something of a knack for it but I don't do it much (by knack I mean by the end of the day the first time I shot I was hitting 1 out of 2 clays on a consistent basis I really don't know if that's average or less than average or not). I've fired my uncles .30-06 And I've fired a .22 pistol before (weird gun, didn't look like it had a hammer and didn't have a slide on the top but it was semi auto and was not a double action revolver. It did have a part that slammed back that seemed to come from inside of the barrel area if anyone knows what the heck this is I would love to know all of the firearms mentioned were owned by one or the other of my uncles they are avid hunters). The advice I've gotten for shooting is to get a .22 and stand a foot from the target and when I can put all the rounds in the magazine into a 1" group. Step back to a yard. And so on. However I hate teaching myself anything. Especially something where there is definitely a right way and a wrong way and where doing it the wrong way can get other people hurt. Can anyone recommend classes and perhaps a gun shop and model of gun for a beginner in the Columbus, OH area?
