  1. Duane I might not be much of a shooter, but computers and digital photography I can help you with. Photoshop is nice if you feel that you need the support of Adobe. If not, I would suggest a program called GIMP. It stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. Its open source (read free) has pretty much any functionality you would really need for enhancing or cleaning up photos for a magazine, and once you play with it a bit is really quite easy to use. I use it at work all the time. And I have numerous other image editing programs available to me. Really its like an open source Photoshop. ::edit:: Sorry RCnet didn't see your post before I posted. So consider this a +1 on the GIMP suggestion.
  2. I'm sorry I just tuned into this thread, but if you like the 1911 better (I assume chambered in .45 acp) why carry the G30?
  3. Thanks all, I will check out the Blackwing course and probably the Circleville match as well. Matt if I like the course then I'll take your advice. One thing I've never been clear on. Do people shoot here year round? (Here being the midwest)
  4. That was kind of the point of choosing it I would go nuts without a sense of humor. Alright I've filled out my profile with location and age, and just to put it out here so you kind people don't need to go looking for it; I'm 25 and male and live in Delaware just north of Columbus, OH. I know we have the Blackwing shooting center near here I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or had other recommendations. I'm mostly interested in pistol just to see if I actually like it once I become competent at it. I don't really see the need for a gun for home defense at this point. If I did I would probably get a .410 and load it with buckshot but that's just me. I haven't ruled out competition shooting but I don't think I should even think about it really until I know I'm using proper technique and am safe with a fire arm. I know I could rent but from the way I see it I could go like what 10 times at 20 dollars a pop. Or I could just buy a used .22 from someone I can trust (which I assume about most of the people on here either buying directly or from their recommendations) and some wallyworld ammunition and be able to go shoot with my uncles as well when I have the opportunity (they live in PA so its a rare thing these days). Hope this clears up any questions.
  5. Hey all, I've been lurking here for a few years without registering, but I decided I needed to ask some questions before jumping into shooting. I really don't have much experience at all. I've shot trap a couple times using a 12 gauge, 10 gauge, and a 410 and seem to have something of a knack for it but I don't do it much (by knack I mean by the end of the day the first time I shot I was hitting 1 out of 2 clays on a consistent basis I really don't know if that's average or less than average or not). I've fired my uncles .30-06 And I've fired a .22 pistol before (weird gun, didn't look like it had a hammer and didn't have a slide on the top but it was semi auto and was not a double action revolver. It did have a part that slammed back that seemed to come from inside of the barrel area if anyone knows what the heck this is I would love to know all of the firearms mentioned were owned by one or the other of my uncles they are avid hunters). The advice I've gotten for shooting is to get a .22 and stand a foot from the target and when I can put all the rounds in the magazine into a 1" group. Step back to a yard. And so on. However I hate teaching myself anything. Especially something where there is definitely a right way and a wrong way and where doing it the wrong way can get other people hurt. Can anyone recommend classes and perhaps a gun shop and model of gun for a beginner in the Columbus, OH area?
