  1. I am breaking in a new 38SC open gun with with a Trubor barrel. I am thinking my chrono migjt be off because I an getting some very high velocities on what I "feel" should be. Relatively tame load. I am running 9.0gr 3n38 under a Precision Delta HP with a OAL of 1.230 and am getting a average velocity of 1445 for a PF of 178.7. I question the data as I only ran 9.8 in my Akai Katana with 7 holes in the barrel for @ the same PF. Doing my research on here, I have found that most are running 9.5-9.6 of 3n38 in a Trubor?

    Here are the results from today. Ran 20 rounds of each, and this is the avg velocity of 5 shot groups

    3n38

    1441 = 178PF

    IMR7625 (7.8 gr 124 gr Precision Delta HP 1.230)

    1504 = 180.5PF

    IMR4756 (8.2 gr 124 gr Precision Delta HP 1.230)

    1420 = 176PF

    IMR7625 (7.8gr 121 gr Frontier FP match plated)

    1516 = 183.4

    the 4756 load is the only one that ran @ the speed I expected but as far as feel was probably bottom of the group. I am gonna retest today. For what it's worth, the rounds I was running in my Katana, 9.8gr 3n38

    Same bullet and length ran an average of 1605 which was scary fast, though no pressure signs on any of the brass.

    Any suggestions appreciated

    thank you

  2. This is probably poster here somewhere but I have been unable to locate it. What effect does elevation have on PF. I am going to be travelling quite a bit this year to some larger matches (I live in Las Vegas). If I am running 179 PF here (38 SC. Vit 3n38 under a precision delta 124gr HP 1.230 OAL in a Akai open gun with Akai comp and SVI barrel with 3 hybri holes and 4 v ports) should I consider it safe in areas such as TX, Ind, Fla, Nor Cal, Neb.?

    Thanks

  3. In this day and age I don't know if reloading to save money on ammo is even applicable. If you can find components, the prices have gotten so high that for your standard factory loads, if money is the motivation to start reloading, you have to think long and hard before fronting the cash. Of course if a fancy progressive machine isn't needed, that does change the $ factor significantly.

    I look at reloading, as both a necessity and a convenience. I primarily shoot USPSA Open division so I don't have a choice but to reload my ammo. As for 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP or other "factory" loads I look at it as being able to control the quality of the ammunition and shoot premium ammo for @ little less than factory price on the "common stuff"

    Just my 2 cents :)

  4. My primary load uses either Winchester or CCI small rifle primers. I will use small pistol or small pistol magnum if nothing else is available, though I tend to start seeing a little primer flow with small pistol, haven't ever had a primer flow issue with small pistol magnum or small rifle. I use a M2I Extended firing pin, with a standard power ISMI trigger spring and a 17# main spring on my Katana with a spurless hammer.

  5. I ran a gun for 3 season without one, then had a new one built that had one. I will never have another open gun without a slide racker now. Unreal for unloaded starts, and really helps in the even you need to clear a jam! Only wish it had the ball detent instead of a set screw to hold it in the slide.

  6. What would be the best adjustable sight to put on a Para Elite Pro SS 1911. It has the stock Trijicon night sights on it now and I would like to install adjustable rear f/o front on it. I was looking at the Dawson one but it says the sight must be "modified to fit new style para adjustable rear sight cut". Not really sure what that means or if it even applies to my model Para.

    Any advise helps

    Thanks

  7. I am having a issue with my STI open gun where the sear spring (EGW) is moving side to side in the grip, allowing it to fall off the left side of the sear causing hammer follow. Anyone else have this issue? It almost seems like the spring is a little narrow for the grip? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  8. I bought a pair of the SC3s a couple of months ago, and I really thought they were the perfect USPSA shoe.

    However, after only a handful of matches, they are wearing BADLY. I'm a big guy (6'5" & 265lb) and harder on shoes than most people, but at this rate, I'll need to buy a new pair a couple of times a season!

    The soft rubber really grips most surfaces well... but wears to quickly for me. I'd say after another 4-6 matches, I wont have enough tread left on the balls of my feet to give me the grip I need.

    That being said, they are so comfortable and grippy when new that I might buy another pair.

    Does anyone have the "S Lab" version? Wondering if the rubber compound on the sole might be different?

    I have worn a pair of the S-Lab Fellcross shoes for the last season. They have been phenomenal and very grippy on all surfaces. My only complaint is similar to SSanders 224. The tread has worn out pretty much over a season and a 1/2 and I noticed this past weekend at the Utah State match that I slipped @ 5 or 6 times which hadn't happened before. I will probably try a pair of the new Fellcross 2's that just came out. Supposed to have a new and improved tread though the $200 price tag is a little scary :)
