  1. I definitely got into the sport because I liked shooting, and thought that the varied courses of fire would be vastly more fun than shooting at a target at 20 yards in an indoor range. Since then, I have learned to enjoy the competition, as well as the people... I seem to learn something about shooting, or something about myself, almost every time I go out to a match. I equate this sport to golf: I am basically competing against myself... But I sure do enjoy seeing a long list of names below mine on the score sheet  (or, as the case may be, a very short list of name behind mine  )

  2. I have had decent luck with them, but they are now relegated as practice mags... I use factory mags in competition...

I have heard too many bad stories to rely on them.

  3. I use a Ready Tactical that I got from CPWSA. I really like the design. I also bought one of the cheaper Bladetech ones from Midway for the stages where I might need a 2nd spare mag.

A quick side question: Are you running an extended mag? I run one of the Nordic extensions on a pmag... 45+ rounds for the first mag helps cut down on mag changes...)

  4. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Top ten places in each division from '09 get in automatically, right????

That would get some people shooting HM and Limited! :roflol:

    Bryan

    Heavy Metal shooter :P

I might vote for TOP 11 B) ... just sayin'...

This is a top notch match, put on by excellent people. Last year's match was amazing (even if my shooting wasn't)...

I can't wait for the opportunity to compete in the match again (and compete in the click-a-thon to get into the match, too)

AMU, Linda, Sponsors.... I'd like to give y'all a big HELL YEAH!

  5. I use 4 of the 6 round holders (with the requisite velcro on the back). My hands are in the medium range, and find it comfortable (and controllable) to grab 3 shells at a time. If I grab 4, 1 or 2 seem to fly out of my hands :surprise:. Never good to leave your ammo on the ground!

  6. The first match I ever used my Sevigny F.O. front sight, it flew off on the last stage. I now know "instillation recommended by qualified gunsmith" equals "use locktite":surprise::roflol:

Luckily the R.O. wouldn't let me walk away, and we actually found the sight in the gravel. Then, to top it off, Dave Sevigny (who was shooting at the match) re-installed it for me and showed me the error of my non-locktite-ing ways...

  7. Wow... others have already said what I was going to say... 9mm or 40 depending on USPSA or Wildcat. Go Glock or risk going home.... (Personal preference, since I shoot Glocks in Production and Limited 10 anyway)

I think the real answer is shoot what you know, and if the BOX comes up, take the extra half second and make sure your gun is safe.

  8. I went through this debate several months ago. I got my 550 from Brian:cheers:

I'm happy with my choice. I poured over all of the wisdom on these forums, and still decided to go with the 550... and I am glad I did. I originally thought "I'll only load 9mm". Now I'm loading 9 , 40 and 223. I think the flexibility of the 550 is one of its best points. I almost went with the square deal, and I could not swing the extra$$$ for the 650. All told, I am confident this was / is the best press for me.

  9. My first couple of matches were with an 870. Use it at several matches and take a look at the equipment others are using. I have seen several people who could keep up with *most* semi-auto shooters using their pumps. The big advantage as I see it to a semi auto are softer recoil, and quicker sight recovery...

The most valuable thing you can do is learn to reload quickly / efficiently.

  10. I have my first match with mine next weekend....

A lot of the 3 gunners I respect here in Georgia have bought them... not sure how many are actively using them.

Your finger "should" be clear of the trigger. The bar sits at the front of the inside of the trigger guard, and extends "outside" of the trigger area.

My vote is valuable add on...

  11. Don't forget you can order direct from Leupold and get a custom retical if you have your load data. It doesn't add much to the $ of the scope, but it is made just for you. Not sure of the turn around time....

    edit to add...

just read another post mentioning this... sorry

  12. To go along with what Grumpyone said.... I think a lot of the perception of recoil also has to do with your experience level. I am still new, and find I like the 147s much better than the 115s. The "pushy" recoil is more comfortable to me... Also, I find my sights "quicker" (to my perception, but not necessarily to the clock... All of the experienced shooters on this forum can't be wrong...). I have a feeling that as my trigger control and grip get better, I might find myself moving back to lighter bullets. (I just ordered some 124s to try working up a load to test this theory)

  13. Hello Everyone,

The date to make sure you receive a match Competitor Techwear shirt AT THE MATCH is fast approaching (March 1st)! We have the design for the shirt here:post-3757-126720184732_thumb.jpg. Competitors can still order the shirt until April 1, but the shirt will be mailed to you. The shirt really looks great! TECHWEAR! For information, just see the previous post about the shirts. Email me here to let me know you want the shirt and will pay the upgrade fee at the match or send it to me as described in the previous post. See you in April!

    Cindy

P.S. ROs don't need to let me know anything, unless you DON'T want the shirt. Here is a picture of the staff shirt:

I like it so much I might have to order a regular shirt to go with my RO shirt ;)

  14. As I enter into a new phase of life, I am trying to figure out the difference between being bold vs. being irresponsible. :surprise:

Is it more bold to stick it out and :sight: to the very end, or is it better, to say the heck with it and

After Brian's response, mine may seem a little naive....

Being Bold is living to tell about it and appreciating it when it is over...

Being irresponsible is getting caught or regretting your choices after they are over.

Live Life with a "No Regrets" attitude... Temper with a huge helping of the Golden Rule, and Life is Good

  15. I am going / went the Police Trade in 22 route. I got one for $280 on a "customer appreciation sale". With the guide rod, spring, magwell, 6 mags w/ extensions, grip tape and a little polishing on the internals, I have an excellent Limited / Limited 10 rig for around $500. (I already had the holster / belt / mag pouches from my production rig).

I shot it at a special classifier match a few weeks ago and classified in Limited 10 very close to my current Production Classification (it was my first time out with the gun)

When I'm eligible for my next certificate from GSSF, I'll get a 35. I currently have a 34 I shoot in Productiuon, with a 17 as my backup. I like the idea of having a backup / donor gun for emergency repairs at a match.

  16. I just bought a Lee LoadAll 2 in 12ga for $35 (Birthday discount from MidwayUSA). I figure that with a bag of shot a and wads, I have about $70 dollars invested, but will be able to make as many Dummy rounds as I will ever need. Eventually I might even contemplate reloading for competition, but my 11-87 really loves the Federal bulk packs from Walmart:unsure:
