  1. As a local MD who's match attendance has stagnated I will welcome any new Division that reenergizes the sport. Personally I suspect the proposed Compact Divion would be attractive to the IDPA shooter and the Optics Division would be attractive to the IDPA shooter. I'd be ok with both but if its only one, I hope its the one with appeal to those that will come out and play.

  2. I used to have a PT92 w/ AL frame and nickel plated slide. It was reliable but I never really found a good accurate load - but that was before I started reloading for pistol. Between the two, I think the XD will enjoy greater aftermarket parts support.

I'd look at the XD first.

  3. Shoot honest.

The classifier tests many skills you use in regular matches, maybe not in the same proportion but the same skills (drawing from holster, accuracy via head shots, tgt-to-tgt transitions, shooting while moving, weak/strong hand, from cover, slide lock reloads and loaded chamber reloads, etc.). The classifer does not require a cover garment so it is a bit missleading.

As a MD for the last 3 years, I've only seen one person shoot the classifer at a level beyond what they normally shoot in a match (classifed as ESP EX but normally finishes mid pack ESP SS).

If you want to practice the classifer, do so from a skills development stand point execpt use a cover garment.

  4. I've been looking at the Xtreme plated 220gr. If you feel the cycling is sluggish try a lighter recoil spring but note that might result in FTF issues - or not. Depends on how light you go.

Speaking of heavy for caliber, I've been trying out 165gr 9mm Xtreme's. Stupid soft and I do notice a difference in cycle speed but I'm not waiting. I would expect the same for 220gr 40 cal but I'd be ready with a 12lb or 13lb spring.

  5. IMO: They shot themselves in the foot by not streaming content. I don't own cable and barely watch tv outside of Walking dead. A while ago I asked several different friends (about 20 or so) that are about in my age group and only 5 of them subscibe to a cable company. Streaming is the future.

Same here. I dropped cable but even when I had it I didn't have the sports package required to watch it. I saw a few shows before it moved networks and wish it would stream online now.

This? http://3gunnation.com/tv_show/past_episodes Seems to run about 6 months behiind.

  6. I just switched packages on my cable service and now I get the channel that carries it so I've been watching it more via DVR. I often FF through the ad's but sometimes watch them. As a fairly established 3-gun shooter I've not been influenced to buy new / different gear or guns but I can see how a new shooter could have selections influenced.

The commentary on what the Pro shooters are doing has caused me to think more about my techniques and what might or might not be faster and how to apply individual abilities to various kinds of stages.

  7. I opted to renew my membership. This will be my second year as a member. I did it before this email came out just as a way of keeping local matches available to me. I am glad to see the FFR going away. I will also be intrigued to see of LOP comes into being. Going for the survey page now. I think the CCP is covered by BUG at this point. Just my opinion.

We already have a BUG division, this just a smaller version of that?

My money is on the optics. From an industry standpoint it also makes sense. People enjoy buying new toys. Look at how explosive 3-gun has been. People will want to buy/build new guns to play with.

BUG is Back Up Gun - limited to 5 rnds and lumps semi's and rev's together. Its designed to provide a place for really small J-frames and pocket pistols with smaller chamberings.

The CCP Division would be a place for larger (as compared to pocket pistols) but still small (as compared to full size pistols) guns shooting 9mm or larger ammo to play on a more level field and not be scored against 5" barreled guns that have large easey to hang onto grips.

  8. Honestly, best performance for the money will be keep using the XDm. Any 2011, even a factory standard config will run ~$2k and used ones are not much cheaper. When you look at all the facets of 3-gun and where you can gain/lose time that $2k could be better spent on a reliable and fast feeding shotgun and / or more accurate rifle / optic.

If you're good for shotgun and rifle and you think this will help you get to the next level, then consider what if any other games you shoot and how a 2011 might relate to switching back and forth. You might want one that handles similar to your other game guns. Otherwise GeorgeD offered good advice, try as many as you can and see what you like.

FYI: I've spent >$2 for a custom 9mm 1911 for IDPA ESP and I have a custom 40 cal 2011 in process that's running >$2500 for USPSA Lim. I'm not against spending big $$$ (for me) on a gun, but I'll keep using my M&P Pro 9mm (basically in stock config) for 3-gun. Why? Less to worry about when abandoning the pistol (saftey not on or getting bumped off and a DQ) or if I I have to go prone less concerned about getting dirty / messed up, etc.

  9. First let me say that I'm a USPSA shooter. I have vowed to never shoot with a vest. But I have read this entire thread. Why? Slide mounted optics, that why!

I'm a black and white guy, no gray area. I'm not sure I could allow myself to be subjected to subjectively called penalties. But I'm trying to be open minded ONLY because I'm interested in the possible optics division. It seems that some good things (as in competition minded) might be in the works. I have no interest in make believe scenarios, I'm only going to show up to compete and have fun. If the "real world" crap can be eliminated, moving reloads become legal, AND I can mount an optic on my slide I'll shoot a few matches and see how it goes. But the first sign of inconsistent penalty calling would end it for me.

    I'll be watching

The only way the LOP Division will happen is if the gun mounted laser crowd out votes the small carry gun crowd. I think its only a very small fraction of shooters care about a slide mounted gun optic becase facory options are limited and very expensive as compared to small carry gun.

  10. Create match on the clubs site. Configure divisions, categories, etc. there. Enable registration and get people registered. After that you have two options:

    1) Once registration is completed, import match to master device (this will create a new match on device, at least on Android that is) using match pin# (you should be able to use import by pin# multiple times too and it should update existing match). Then edit/enable penalties on this device.

    2) Create match on master device, configure divisions and categories again on device. Edit/enable penalties. Then export your match registration from the clubs site as a CSV spreadsheet, get that CSV file to master device and import it into the match you created there (you can re-import list multiple times).

After that you can sync to scoring tables and continue.

The second option can be used with other registration sites, or even if you want to do manual registration in Excel.

I've used method one last month with no issues. Standard IDPA penelities showed up as avaialbe.

  11. So GADPA didn't want to follow published and very clear rules on squadding and stage approval for the match to be a Tier 4 match and it got knocked down to a Tier 3 match?

Sounds like hurt egos to me.

Its a free market and if GADPA wants to go outlaw fine with me. They may very well see no reduction in monthly / weekly match attendance. I do suspect they will see fewer non-local shooters, especailly pro / sponsered shooters at any "big" events since there won't be a national context for the results.

  12. Out of my Wilson Combat 16" midlength gass barrel I've not seen much differnce between Wolf Gold and Fed XM-193. Wiht 20 shot groups both will deliver ~80%-90% into a 1.5 MOA group. Hornady Z-Max 55gr will put 20 out of 20 into a 1 MOA group but it costs 3x more, so....

Watch gunbot.net. Recenly found Wolf gold for $276/1k + shipping making it ~$295/1k delivered. XM-193 was runing ~$330/1k.
