  1. I wanted to shoot steel, but have you ever tried to find a left-hand Ruger MKIII holster?

Have you check out Black Dog? I picked one up but haven't had a chance to try it yet. It is apparently reversible for lefty's.

I think the barrel length has to do with the rules of the game you are shooting. I've got a 4" 686SSR for IDPA. I shoot it in ICORE and Steel Challenge occasionally and would pick up a K or L-frame in 6" if I found one at the right price.

  2. I loaded my M&P 9mm with some 125 LRN over HP38 at 3.4 grains 1.145 OAL and I now have one stuck in the gun. The slide didn't lock and went ...click...when I pulled the trigger, didn't realize until after.

Sorry about your gun. Just for others looking back at this, that's a really light charge. My 125gr lead minor load is 4.3gr of HP-38/W231 in my M&P's.

  3. For SSR/ICORE K-frame vs L-frame is more of a personal preference. For SSR's PF (both old and new) the 67 .38spl only is not at a disadvantage. I've got a 686SSR that I've put thousands of rounds of .38spl through and not a single round of .357. If I had to do it all over again I probably would have saved some money and picked up a 67 and spent the money on trigger work and more ammo. For $350 I'd buy it B).

  4. I load them on a Dillon 550b. I'd seat the primer, back off the handle, and seat it again firmly. I did this both for .38spl and 9mm. I had more problems with the 9mm in a stock M&P than I did in my 686SSR (also stock at the time). Other people I;ve talked to had similar experiences, wolf's would go bang 100% in their glock but no so much in their M&P's. Before I switched primers I contemplated putting in an extra power striker spring from SSS.

  5. I AssUMe he's looking for the M&P. I haven't seen any aftermarket base pad for the 10 rounders. I'm sure those of us in NY, MA, and CA would buy them if they were available. I'd like them for an M&P setup for ESP with a magwell and/or my open minor steel M&P.

  6. You do know neither the RAM kit nor the forward setting sear kits are USPSA production legal. Where all the work I do is 100% internal and legal.

Has anyone got an official ruling on the RAM? There was a discussion about it here but no official reply.

  7. It depends on the bullet shape. I run precision black bullets truncated cones and have to load them short (1.105") because the shape of the bullet engages the rifling. If it's a shape (round nose) or profile (berrys FP) bullet I can go longer.

  8. I have a friend who uses solo 1000 with those bullets. I worked up a load with HP-38/W231 and WST. The HP-38 was more consistent in my guns. I ended up with 147gr Precision black bullet, 3.5gr HP-38, 1.105" OAL (my M&P's have a short throat). It makes minor in my M&P compact, full size, and long slide (9L/9Pro). It obviously has more cushion the long slides.

  9. Thanks. I just got a new Pro and have a std M&P for back up/parts. The strikers aren't cheap from what I recall.

    $33 from SSS

Regarding to the original post- one hour/week dry firing is nothing IMO. I have a G34 that must have 10s of thousands of dry fires/live fires without issue. I like the M&P Pro though and am going to try it out.

They redesigned the striker a few years ago to prevent breakage due to dryfire. My compact and full size still have the old style one. I've had some issues with light strikes with wolf primers with them. I was going to replace them but I finally burned through all stock of wolfs. My 9L and 9Pro have the new style one.

  10. I turned mine down on a Metal Lathe. I learned on the first one to use my flood cooler as the plastic wants to melt.

    Mule

How did you hold it? I tried both a 3 jaw chuck and a collet and couldn't get a good grip: I ruined one in the process. I ended up partially disassembling them and using a belt sander.

  11. You've found the joys of the "new" followers. Not only is it harder to get the 10th round in but it is so tight that it is difficult to seat the mag on a closed slide (doing 10+1). It also drags the slide and can keep it from going into battery. There are some pictures in this thread that show how someone trimmed the legs off the follower.

  12. Be careful which brand you buy.

    WWB 130 gr FMJ is cataloged at 800 fps, f= 104,000; UMC at 790 fps, f= 102,700

AE is better, claims 890 fps, f= 115,700.

Real gun velocities will vary but not usually higher than advertised.

FYI: I chrono'd some WWB out of my 686SSR yesterday. All 12 rounds were 110-115PF.

  13. Find a buddy in PA(or anywhere really) to buy one and keep your mags. Then he can ship it to your FFL to do the required legal transfer work to you.

That would be legal and would follow correct federal laws and procedures. Not sure about NY laws though.

Consider yourself lucky. In MA an FFL can't transfer a Pro or a 9L because it's not on the list :angry2:

  14. I must have a tight gun, a fast bullet/barrel, or a hot batch of powder. My IDPA SSR load is

    158gr BBI RN

    4.5gr HP-38

    1.45" OAL

    Wolf SPP

    I get ~830fps or 131PF out of my 4" 686SSR

We should chrono each of our loads in each of our guns for comparison. I'm sure some are faster than others for sure.

It wouldn't be a bad idea. We should try multiple chrono's too. The same day (April 4th 2010, don't remember if it was particularly warm or not) the same load averaged 838 fps or 132 PF out of Jar's K-frame. Two out of three passed easily at CT States, one was a little slow.

I've got a cheap digital scale but I go through the calibration procedure and use 10 throws to get the weight.

  15. I must have a tight gun, a fast bullet/barrel, or a hot batch of powder. My IDPA SSR load is

    158gr BBI RN

    4.5gr HP-38

    1.45" OAL

    Wolf SPP

    I get ~830fps or 131PF out of my 4" 686SSR

  16. the chamber and throat on M&Ps are deep enough to take most anything that can operate in the mags.

Mine isn't, and that's why I'm wondering if mine is an outlier, or if this is common with the M&P 9.

I've had issues with 125gr truncated cone precision bullets. At "normal" lengths they engage the rifling. If I load them short they work fine. I was contemplating a single stack STI 9mm and was wondering if I would have the same issues that you are experiencing. The thought of having my M&P reamed has crossed my mind.

  17. I know a guy that had this happen twice. Any hints on how you do this? I wouldn't mind having that insurance!

Have you watched him windup before he slams his palm into the speed loader? I have :surprise: I only have a faint line in the finish of my 686SSR yoke (Knock on wood) with ~3k rounds through it.
