  1. The 550 is a great balanced machine without a case feeder.  The 550 case feeder was an afterthought.  I was in the same position:  I was happy with the 550 but wanted to increase production.  I thought about buying the case feeder or upgrading to  650.  I bought the case feeder and struggled with getting it to work reliably with multiple calibers (9, 40, .38spl).  I ended up buying a 650, selling the 550 and my 550 case feeder feeds my casepro.  I know a few people that are happy with their case fed 550 but I know more that tried it, got frustrated, and upgraded to a 650.  YMMV but the good thing is the 550 and accessorizes hold their value which you can recoup when you sell and upgrade to 650 eventually.

  2. I was in your position.  I had a 550b and wanted to increase output.  I thought about adding a case feeder to the 550b or selling it and buying a 650.  I didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling the 550b so I bought the case feeder.  I was loading 9mm, 40, and 38 special.  I could never get it to run right.  As others have said the casefeeder on the 550b is an afterthought.  I ended up selling the 550b, using the casefeeder on my casepro, and buying a 650.  The 550b is a great well balanced machine.  Add a casefeeder and it is unbalanced (left hand does 2 things, right hand just runs handle).  If you want a casefeeder buy a 650.

i had a casefeeder on the 550.  While it did speed up the process, when it worked, it was a poor investment.  The casefeeder for the 550 is an afterthought and a mess.  If you are to the point of needing/wanting a casefeeder save yourself some heartache and sell the 550 and get a 650/1050

Same experience here.  I had a 550 and wanted to increase production.  I thought about selling 550 and buying a 650 vs adding a case feeder.  I bough the case feeder and got frustrated with it and bought a 650. Sold the 550 and used the case feeder on my Case Pro.  550 is a great machine but the case feeder is an afterthought.  If you need higher output sell the 550, buy a 650 and skip the 550 case feeder.

We have slowed a bit. So working on it this week.

We we actually were so busy at one point I upped the lead time.  Unfortunately when I'm that busy I can't work on new things a lot.

Completely understand.  I'll watch here for updates.  I'm growing tired of my issues with my DAA racer and am thinking of going kydex.  I've got a G22 + TF ST and If I can add a frame weight at the same time I'm interested.

I just leave them loaded for the next time I shoot.

This is what I have traditionally done.

Recent production UpLulas have an "unloader" which is just a groove and stud on the front edge that you can ram them out with.

I saw this feature recently.  I purchased another UpLula along with the single stack aligner adapter.  I haven't had a chance to do extensive testing.

Uh, you're physics teacher would be very disappointed in you.
So, recoil... Is felt force... FORCE...
What is force, it's mass times velocity SQUARED... The larger factor of how much force something has is the SPEED at which it travels... Not its weight.

Ehh, force? No kinetic energy is mass times velocity squared.  Force is mass times acceleration.  Momentum is mass times velocity.

  7. If it's not flush without the cylinder release removed you've got a problem with the gun. If it is ok without the release you need to fine tune the cylinder release: ask 10mmDave he made that release. I had to trim both of mine a little with a razor blade when I got them.

  8. Without limited 10, for those of us that don't live in a free state, there would no way that we would be competitive in Limited given our capacity restrictions.

All divisions revert to the allowed mag limits in specific states. This is a non issue for those that live in places like CA and NY. You shoot limited with whatever you local laws allow.

In states like MA it's not that straight forward. They allow preban mags so you can shoot a glock (since pre-bans) exist. If you want to shoot an M&P you need L10 unless you want to chance being charged with a felony.

  9. I have used on for 223 brass only. It works fine for but I do not use it for ammo I want use for target shooting.

Are you thinking of a Lee factory crimp die? If so that's different than the u-die.

  10. Yes

I never had a problem with poly coated lead. When I switched to Montana Gold I had lots of issues with mixed brass and the thumb test. The u-die is now part of my regular process.

  11. A few years ago I had a 550b that I was using. I was setup for 4 or 5 calibers and actively reloading 3 of those. I wanted to load faster and contemplated adding a case feeder to the 550b or getting a 650. I added up the costs and decided to keep the 550b and add the case feeder. I thought of selling the 550b and buying 650 since I could get most of my money back due to the high resale value. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling and or parting out all the caliber conversions. After about a year I finally bit the bullet and bought the 650. I ended up selling the 550b. If I had more space I would have kept it for lower volume calibers.

The 550b is a great well balanced machine. I loaded thousands of rounds on mine, with and without a case feeder. The lack of auto index is not a limiting factor without a case feeder. When you add the casefeeder your left hand has to do a lot more work than the right. AssUMe'ing you can get the 550 case feeder to work correctly, I never could, your right hand never leaves the handle. Your left has to advance the shell plate, grab a bullet, and place a bullet. I had all kinds of problem getting the machine to feed cases reliably.

  12. Thank you.

For comparison, here is one without all the color. I also do some partial styles that just put the texturing where I need it for my support hand.

Since the entire SIG P320 grip is only $45 MSRP it makes for a great platform to experiment on.

Just don't stipple one for use in IDPA SSP :blush::mellow:

  13. For all of the people that keep making the "What about the banned/limited mag capacity states" argument. Rule 3.3.1 addresses this (I have listed it below). This rule effectively eliminates the need for the Limited 10 division all together.

3.3.1 - In states where competitors are restricted by law to maximum magazine capacity, that maximum capacity will be the maximum allowed for all competitors in the contest. Any such limitations must be made known to all competitors by the Match Director/Range Master before the start of the match.

It addresses states like NY and Colorado but NOT Massachusetts.

How or Why would this rule not function properly to ensure that all competitors adhere to the Massachusetts 10 round capacity limit law? Every division should be restricted to 10 round magazines in that state.

Because MA allows grand-fathered pre-ban magazines, they are not completely banned. If you can find and are willing to pay you can get pre-ban glock mags and shoot limited. If you shoot an M&P you are SOL (they don't exist). Either compete at a severe disadvantage, choose to tempt becoming a felon, or don't play.

  15. In those areas with mag restrictions in Limited don't they run 10 rds? If that is the case, why do we need Lim 10. Essentially, Limited becomes Lim 10.

It depends on the state. In NY they've gotten rid of all preban grandfathering so Limited effectively becomes L10. However, in states like Massachusetts we have grandfathered prebans. I can shoot Limited with a Glock and preban mags. However no prebans exist for M&P40Pro so I shoot it in L10. If L10 went away I could either be at a severe disadvantage, chance being a felon, or not play.
