  1. I have 2 LMT MRPs the 14.5 is not as reliable as the 16. The 14.5 likes to sometimes rip the case rim off leaving the empty hopelessly stuck. Obviously over gassed.

Also one of my MRPs turned purple over time. Clearly the anodizing wasn't up to par. Customer service was non existent they said screw you purple is fine. At least that's the way I heard it.

LMT is obviously hit or miss. Kind of an expensive roll of the dice.

    thanks for your candor...Kirby

  2. Here is a thought for you. Out of those 3 guns, if you were to ever have trouble with or questions about, which one can you call the guy that built the gun & assembled it for help & advice?

If you don't know, it is the Firebird. The phone number is on the website & that is Jim's personal number in his house/shop.

Does that mean anything to you? It does to me. That is why I have a Firebird.

    MLM

I concur that service after the sale is important. I want the one least likely to NEED the service dept...least likely to go tits up in the middle of a carbine school. Regards, Kirby

  3. 500 rnds/mo of .45 WWB hardball gonna damage or wear it out quickly?

    What say you?

A buddy of mine split the frame on his with 1000 rounds of hardball...but the conventional wisdom from the 70's was they were good for about 5000. Let us know when yours splits

    not going to happen ;)

I have a .38 Super Lightweight that has 2200 rounds thru it. But I use 135 power factor shells in it, not 190...no cracking so far. It is fun to shoot : :D

  4. So about 9:45 last night I was looking in a storage room in the back of the house. The door to it goes to the outside.

Well I had given up the search for what I was looking for and turn to start putting things back up. As I did I looked at the door and saw a copperhead go past the door. I had my Glock 17 on my hip and drew it but could not get a shot. So I put everything back up and turned the light off as I walked out the door.

It was now pitch black. I tripped over a set of jumper cables. I ain't going to lie. That scared me most of all. I knew the thing had turned back and I was a had ass. :-)

    I jumped a good 10 feet.

I went back around the and in the house and grabbed my Remington 870 with the Vang Comp barrel and some 2 3/4" mag turkey loads and a flash light and went back to find it. I got in behind it and give it one in the head. That ended it with ease.

Hmm...pitch dark, feet tangled in the jumper cables...the Old Serpent had you exactly where he wanted you. Glad he didn't sink those fangs in you  Work on that draw so you can smoke him next time with your sidearm :roflol: ( and what's a revo guy doing carrying a G17 anyway?) :roflol:

  5. Watch the sights. Open yourself up to their input. In short order your subconscious mind can figure out what the trigger finger is doing when the sights track correctly, and shots land accurately, what it does when they don't, then dump the bad and embrace the good. Watch the sights and you do eventually hit a point where trigger control kind of takes care of itself.

Duane, I am glad to report your counsel to watch the sights, along with my determination to hold the gun on the target has resulted in a breakthrough. In firing 350 shells I only had 1 that I pushed to the left, and I saw and recognized it immediately. I am greatly encouraged by this. Thanks for your help. Regards, Kirby

  6. From what I gather, Brazos and Dawson both have great reputations as STI suppliers...

What are your thoughts as to the best source to buy a new STI from?

Chuck at Shooters Connection handled my order for a long slide Trojan...a very good buying experience. Hope this helps, Kirby

  7. "...that trigger control is born of a desire to hold the sight on target." This jumped off the page at me. I thought I had that desire. But after some soul searching and reflecting upon it I can't really say that I have had such a desire. I WILL have it before my next trip to the range, or I won't go...comments and opinions, suggestions etc. are welcome. Thanks, Kirby

  8. Kirby, I bought the Clark, it was ok....I think I got whatever was in the Brownells at the time, then I put it in the mill and lowered the top until I still had enough meat to put the Cmore screws into it. Any flat weaver type rail can be "flat-toped and then you can drill and tap the two holes for the CMore and that will be as low as you go....Hope that makes sense!

    DougC

So to get it as low as possible, it looks like I'll need professional help. My wife said I need that already...Thanks, Kirby

  9. Dont be cheap on your red-dots......I am not trying to insult anyone, but if you are spending less than 75 bucks for one don't be surprised when they crap on you at a match.

I use C-mores, and can also recommed the new Burris dots and Ultra Dots. You can find deals on tasco tubes on the Egay sights, but they are hit and miss.....You definitely get what you pay for on this.....

    DougC

Doug, who makes the lowest, neatest mount to put a C-more on a 22/45? Thanks, Kirby

  10. Evidently part of a plated(or all of it) bullet lodged in the bore and now I have this ring about half way down the barrel :angry2: The barrel is a Barsto from the late 70's, single port skinny gun. Ask me if I will EVER load any more of these damn things. Maybe Howard, Benny or Matt could advise on whether it's safe to still shoot it. Thanks, Kirby

If all of the bullet lodged in the bore it was a squib and wasn't the fault of the bullet (and I dislike plated bullets). Is the ring a complete circle?

As far as safety, it depends on where the ring is....and if it's far enough forward the gun may not cycle properly due to the bushing catching on the raised part of the barrel (sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't). You're probably going to need a new barrel anyway as they almost never shoot accurately after getting ringed. R,

    G-Man, I can't keep it on a 6" paper plate at 25yds now...Kirby

  11. Well it looks like I have sucked up enough and have been given the green light to order a 1050.

Before I do I wanted to ask the current 1050 owners if you have any regrets or wish you would have gone with the 650 instead. I have read all of the threads regarding the 1050 but most of the negative stuff envolves old issues.

I currently have a 550 with a casefeeder. I love it for the 40's but the 9mm is difficult to load in regards to time and smoothness on that machine. My plan is to get the 1050 and have it for the 9mm only. The 550 will load 40's and 38 super.

I also plan to order the MR bullet feeder and the RF 100 primer machine. I want to be able to sit down and crank out a bucket load of ammo and go shoot, not spend hours reloading. Between my wife and I we shoot a LOAD of 9mm.

So thats the story. Any regrets out there in BE world?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I bought a 1050 in .45acp in the early 90's. I am just now really beginning to use it...it's purring like a kitten. Go for it. Regards, Kirby

  12. I would hang on to that thing forever. Every miss I had henceforth I would mutter about, "That darned ringed barrel!"

John, that's a good one and I'll take that advice. All joking aside, when I laid it down in 1986 it would still shoot 2" at 25 yds. After 23 years of trapshooting I can't hit a bull in the butt from my flinch. Maybe I can get out the sandbags to see if it will still shoot...Kirby
