  1. Depending on which chart you look at, BullsEye powder is about 6th faster powder. Fast powders generate more heat--heat that melts the exposed lead base of the bullet.

Select a cooler burning powder and you will not melt as much lead or don't shoot exposed lead base bullets.

I'm using 4.3 Bullseye with 115 FMJ(exposed lead base) Zeros with no leading whatsoever in two STI's. I doubt it's the powder.

  2. Was thinking of throwing one in my SS 9mm Spartan. Fairly new to 1911's and have been shooting Open/Pro plastic guns for quite some time, but I wanted to expand my experience with the "old faithful" of the handgun world. Thanks for the responses.

Save your $...I recently bought a Ranger II 9mm that came from the factory with the RM. It does seem to soften the slide hittng the frame, but makes the front sight do squirrely things. I put in a FLGR with 10lb spring and it settled right down. If this RM would fit your 5" gun (it's 4.20) I'd give it to you. Hope this helps, Kirb

  3. Hard to make a powder recommendation with out a bullet type but from your list:

Clays - Best 45 period. Try some Bayou or Precision Moly bullets for best results. (2nd WST).

231 - Excellent in the 40 shoots like WST.

TiteGroup - Heats the gun up way hot, didn't burn clean for me, and I felt it had more recoil than other powders at same velocity.

    BullsEye - Snappy.

WST will shoot very good in 40 and 45 again excels with Moly or Lead bullets.

9 mm is the rub - WST works good but and I hate to say it TiteGroup works better with 124gr Jacketed. But if it is moly or lead WST. N320 is the absolute best in 9 mm regardless of bullet type. IMR7625 is also good for 9 minor and I should add very safe. Try some 135gr Bayou with WST or 231 very nice shooting and accurate.

Coco, how much 231 are you running with the 135 Bayous? Thanks, Kirby

  4. Dawson sem to be the same as Metalform with a Dawson pad.

I've heard the Dawsons are Metalform tubes but everything else is different.

I still intend to try the Wilsons.

I have 10 of the Wilson ETM's, they feed perfectly in my 6" Trojan 9mm, but they are NOT 10 round reloadable. I have not clipped any coils off the springs though. Hope this helps, Kirby

  5. Anyone with experience with this shotgun for trap and what are prices for one in your area.

Shoot one before you buy at any price. God made Berettas to punish trapshooters. Worst cheek bruising ever for me. And yes I have owned one.

  6. Well Happy New Year.

My wife woke up in the middle of night with severe abdominal pain in the right side - front to back.

    You guessed it..Gall Bladder

She got scheduled for surgery this morning and is finally resting comfortably ( as best as you can ).

But now with my layoff, my insurance benefits ran out at midnight and I am in limbo waiting for my information to be sent to Cobra.

They say it supposed to be retro to Jan.1 no matter when I get signed up. I HOPE SO.

Cobra is retroactive for 45 days after your coverage ends, no ifs ands or buts.Subject to copays and your deductible this will be covered. PM me if you have other questions...Kirby NCDOI.

  7. HAAAAATE SP .45 brass. Federal, darn you....DARN you straight to HECK.

the curse of 10,000 flinches upon the fine person that thought of putting a small primer pocket in a Blessed be God .45 case...

I think what you're calling season 3, they call "the rest of season 2"

Has season 2 been released on DVD yet? If so, who carries it? Thanks, Kirby

  9. Firefly

Justified (Gotta love a show based in KY)

    Battlestar Galactica (Old and New)

Jericho - Cancelled way before its time!

    Band of Brothers

Justified is just great. Being from KY makes it even better. I hope we get a season 3.

Added this link for a promo for the show:

A friend recommended 'Justified' to me a few weeks ago... I'm really enjoying it.

  10. How does the DeltaPoint compare to the C-more STS? Has anyone had both to make the comparison? (from shopping results it looks like the STS would be cheaper) If so, which did you prefer and why? Don't have to write an essay about the pros and cons just a simple reply would be greatly welcomed. I'm looking at getting a Limcat mount from Johnny to use on my Razorcat 9mm major pistol to replace the Quinn 2 C-more that I'm currently using and would appreciate any input offered.

I have both right now. The STS is mounted on my wife's Ruger 22/45 and I have the DP mounted on my Ruger Rifle, both are used for Steel Challenge. I have shot both for a while and although it took a while to get use to the triangle over the dot, I love the DP now. In fact, we are talking about selling her STS and getting her a DP also. We both prefer the DP for 1) very crisp and clear glass, 2) wider FOV, 3) sharp triangle that adjust quick and perfect to light, 4) Triangle is good for speed and precision using the center to cover or tip, 5) lower profile, 6) the cost was very close to each other. If you search around, you will find these sights within $20 or $30 of each other so the cost difference is trivial. The one advantage the STS has is the the intensity is auto or manual - I like that feature. Since you didn't want an essay, I will stop here but I am a firm believer in the DP product.

    PM sent...

  11. A good friend of mine has a 50BMG primer inbedded in his calf...surgeon said it would do more damage to dig it out so they left it in there. Like many of us he has deprimed live primers in the past with no problem. The primer had been squirted with WD40 but still went off. Handling primers is not without risk. Hope this helps, Kirby

  12. From a totally different angle...What caliber and what type of gun?

If you are shooting a major caliber the difference in recoil can be substantial between factory and hand loaded ammunition.

I think most shooters find it easier to shoot a good hand load than factory as it can be "tailored" to fit your particular preference as to how the gun recoils.

    .02

    I'm shooting a springfield xd9 (5" barrel). It's a 9mm

If 9mm in Production is your primary use, buy win or fed ball ammo at Walmart for $210/k including tax. Sell your once fired cases for $50/k. Your net will be around $ 160 or so. It will cost you $130-140 to load them. Take the time you would spend reloading and be dry firing instead.Reloading is not without its risks. Lose a finger or an eye in a primer explosion (very rare, but it does happen)or maybe just blow up a barrel or the whole gun and the savings of $30/k will look pretty small indeed. I have witnessed an M1 Garand receiver split open(slamfire from a soft primer), Colt 45 Gold Cup dust cover bent down where a squib was lodged in the barrel, Browning HiPower barrel and slide burst open and a Browning 525 O/U totally destroyed by a wad stuck in the forcing cone, another squib. All of these with reloads. I have never seen a gun ruined with a factory shell...just something to think about. I am not trying to rain on your parade. I do have a 450, 550 and 1050 in my basement that I use for calibers other tham 9mm, so I am not the Anti-Loader :D . Be safe and have fun in your shooting career.

  13. Some friends and I have recently gotten into sporting clays and we were looking into some bulk ammo. I just picked up a Beretta AL391 and most of my buddies use pumps Moss500, Rem870, etc. Does anyone have experience with Kemen shells? I have heard from others that they are well made and I see their boxes(in trash cans) a good bit at different ranges we have around here. We would be looking at getting 10 cases of the following and splitting between 4 guys or so. Looks like 60$ a case shipped to my door

Stock# Product GA Length Oz Shot Dram Equiv Vel Shot Size

    KMSU32 Kemen Super 32 12 2 ¾ 1 1/8 2 ¾ 1150 7.5

Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

In my former trapshooting life I fired a lot of Kemens, they work great. Just don't plan on reloading the hulls because the primer pockets are too large to hold an American(rem, win ,fed) 209 primer. Hope this helps, Kirby

  14. will be used primarily for carbine school and matches, mostly close in stuff. I will add the SOPMOD stock to the Firebird or STI, so the price will work out pretty close for all of them. Trijicon TR-24 will ride on top. Some of you AR wizards please chime in with your preference. Which one should a man buy? Thanks, Kirby

Thanks to everyone that took time to share their ideas on this. With Fomeister's guidance on some things I picked the STI. At this point in my AR journey it seems to make the most sense. That Fomeister is one helpful cuss... Mike, thanks...Kirby

  15. UPDATE, the Firebird M4-LE has a commercial tube. I tried a mil-spec CTR on it this morning, and no go. So Kirby, you will either need a commercial stock, or the whole kit.

Fomeister, thanks, I'm trying to get up with DMAC to look at his JP & Noveske. A decision on this is imminent though.

DMAC, thanks for showing me the Good stuff...what a trigger on that JP, a beautiful example of the gunmaker's art.I decided on the STI.

  16. Since I have one of each, and sell two of the three, I have to say Firebird and STI because the features for the price make sense, they both support the sport, and you can talk to the guy who built either one every day.

Fomeister, do I need to order the SOPMOD complete kit or just the buttstock to go on the Firebird...thx, Kirby

    Kirby,

I will check on Monday to see if the tube is milspec, if so then you just need the stock. If Jim is still lurking around here, maybe he can tell us if it is milspec or commercial.

I'll call you Mon am...thx, Kirb
