  1. Just seat the bullet in station 2 right after the powder drop. You simply can't double charge if you put a bullet on the case right after it gets filled with powder.

I don't think my (.40) bullets will stand up straight enough in the case to keep from tipping over because I have a very slight flair. But it's still a hell of an idea.

I tried this awhile ago while experimenting with speeding up my loading process and couldn't get the bullet to stay reliably. Perhaps if you went with a lot of bell it would work though. I found it was faster and more reliable for me to pick up bullet, index with bullet in hand, and set bullet in case while grabbing another case.

  2. They are definitely worth the extra money, but I agree with the posts above that the turrets should be capped. My brother had a little issue at the MGM Ironman when he had the windage turret get spun a ways and didn't notice it. Made for an interesting stage until he looked at the turret!

  3. I just read an article in the newspaper about our local gun ranges and was pretty happy until I saw the caption under a photo of a guy using a spotting scope while his son was shooting...."Garrett Walters, 10, Wenatchee, lines up a rifle shot at the North Central Washington Gun Club. His father, Dave Walters, uses a range-finder to help Garrett hit the target." Close, but no cigar.... :sight:

  4. Time = $ and it takes some time to properly fit and blend a 1911/2011 style pistol. $3k for a quality custom is not out of reality. I'm betting you can find some good 'smiths out there though (perhaps with less reputation) that may be a little cheaper.

  5. Along the same lines....have any of you guys tried the 10 minute trainer workout that Tony Horton does? I found that I couldn't commit to enough time to do the full P90x, but am thinking the 10 min series I may be able to pull off.

Priorities, priorities, priorities... There are 168 hours in a week!!! If you can't find 3 to devote to exercise, you're NOT going to get results.

    Fair enough......I'm just being lazy.

  6. Wednesday night I was going out to the barn to get my lawnmower and BAM, damn hornet latched onto my arm and stung the crap right out of me :angry2: Completely unprovoked and certainly caught me off guard. Thought to myself "well that was pretty rude!"....so I found the nest and proceeded to hose it down with a full can of bee spray. Didn't really hurt too awfully bad that night, but man the next day my forearm swelled up like Popeye and is still swollen and red! NOT HAPPY as I sit here trying to work and my arm itches like a MOFO!!!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

  7. My $0.02 on this is that I think it's a toss up between the 1911 and the XD/XDm. I like both platforms and both have different strengths for me. I can shoot a 1911 more accurately, but I can draw and change mags on a polymer gun faster. Really comes down to which platform fits you better.

.....but I can't say that I've shot a .12 split with either gun. I'm slow :roflol:

  8. Having built props for matches myself, I can appreciate all the work that went into this stage! Thanks to Iain, Earl, Peter & Don for stepping up and making this happen. It's great that we as competitors get the opportunity to play with equipment like this that we'd never get to do otherwise. That was my first time using night vision and hopefully I'll get an opportunity to use it again sometime:)

  9. My $0.02 for what it's worth.....I compete with the 1911/2011 platform, and decide what to carry based on the level of concealment I have available. Most of the time I have a STI Tactical close by, other times I have a XDsc .40 and when I don't have room for either of those I carry a LCP. My thought is that as long as the gun I carry is similar in pointing and simpler than the gun I train/compete with, I'm going to be OK. I don't think it works as good going the other way though, ie training/competing with a Glock/XD striker gun and carrying a 1911 with a safety and hammer.

  10. I have never heard of the word "haBOOB" before so, you can imagine my hesitation after reading the thread title...

Hesitation?????....Anything with 'BOOB' in the title must be checked out immediately!

I have to say, that's one of the most gnarly looking things I've ever seen. So a question for all you that witnessed it, how much notice did you have to seek some cover and how long did it last? I've never been in a dust storm so I'm curious as to how it all went down. Definitely looks like something straight out of the movies!!
