  1. I can't recommend much on a holster, but I can say that I absolutely love my full length rail Tactical 5.0 in 45! It's right up there contending for the "my favorite gun to shoot" award!!

how's the balance of the gun with the full lenght rail?

I think it's great. Feels just like my Edge! Recoil is pretty much nothing even with full house +p Rangers.

  2. I've noticed the same sort of thing. I shoot the same load (124cmj 3.9g Titegroup) out of both my 1911 9mm and my XDm 5.25 and the XD has noticeably more flip. I just figured it was because I had spoiled myself by shooting the heavier 1911! The thought has crossed my mind though to play with springs a bit as it seems this one has a little too heavy a recoil spring so I'm in sort of the same boat as you.

  3. Im still trying to figure out what makes this a " Monolithic" upper? I was under the impression a monolithic upper had the upper reciever, forearm and full length top rail machined out of a single piece of material. This one is three pieces bolted together. Not sayin its not a quality piece, but to call it monolithic is decieving, is it not?

I was lost as well. Also, I suspect this stuff will be brutally expensive and out of the price range of most competitors.

Glen doesn't price his stuff out there where people can't afford it. He is one of the few guys that lives on making innovative stuff that is actually affordable. Sure it's more expensive than stamped parts, but there is a whole host of little tricks in his lower and this new upper that make it worth the money. Trust me, once a few of these get out there you're all going to placing orders. Glen brought a couple prototypes to the A1 MG match and they got nothing but great feedback.

  4. If you want to stick with the mil system, I'd go with the MLR reticle and my preference is for the 50mm objectives. It allows more mounting options by giving more room at the front of the scope. The 5.5-22 is more than enough scope for the distances you've stated, and the 3.5-15x might be a better fit for that weapon.

  5. We just finished up a 7wsm on one of our short actions and yes it can be done and it works well. Both the Alpha mags and Accurate Mags for the AI-style DBMs like your Badger will work as long as they don't have the spacer plate in the front of the mag. I think your parts will be fine, so either have the bolt face opened up or get a new bolt from PTG. Another thing to make sure you do if you're going to run the longer OALs, is to relieve the feed area on the receiver.

  6. I too am at war with the vermin! They have decided that my washer in the basement is their new hangout :angry2: and won't even touch the traps with PB or cheese as they have been stealing the cat's food! I'll be upping my game this week though and will prevail in this little battle!

  7. There are a whole bunch of options for F-Open, but I think your best best will be something in the 7mm range. Anything that you can drive a 180vld at around 2950fps will allow you to cheat wind the most. I'd consider a straight .284win on a long action so you can seat the bullets out and run like a 30" tube. That cartridge is just inherently accurate and RL17 works really well with the 180s in a longer barrel. If recoil is an issue, I'd look to something like a 243Ackley, 6brx, 6xc, 6-6.5x47Lapua, etc. Any of these will allow you to drive a 115DTAC at speeds which will keep you competitive and not beat you up with recoil in the process.

  8. I've ran a few thousand rounds through the 3 Spartans I've been involved with and when running a cmj bullet they've all been extremely reliable. The only times they've had issues is if I've mistakenly loaded a bad piece of brass which is not fault of the gun. I actually have one that I'm thinking of selling that has been all slicked up; if you're interested PM me. It's been used if a few local matches by both my girlfriend and myself and has run flawlessly.

  9. The other evening I was shooting my new XDm 5.25 for the first time and was really working on front sight focus since that's been something I've struggled with lately. As the shot broke and the gun recoiled, my left eye took over and I suddenly got a visual of the side of the gun rather than the front sight until the gun came back on target. Once back on target my vision switched back to my right eye and focus went back to the front sight. Is this something that is fairly normal or something I need to work on to eliminate or lessen the effect of?

    Thanks for any help.

  10. Chuck, thanks for getting this thread back on topic. My thought is that Open should be unlimited. If you want to shoot a SG with 100 rounds on the damn thing then be my guest. There are still going to be stages set up that will challenge any equipment we can come up with. Open is supposed to be the division that pushes the limits of equipment and that push is what drives everyone to develop new products. LET OPEN BE OPEN :sight:
