  1. Let me know if they didn't get their shoe back and I'll work out some sort of discounted entry fee for them this year. We're not totally heartless. ;) We actually talked about that bay at the meeting last night. We're hoping to have the "mud bay" footing issues fixed up before this year's match.

No worries, John, all ended well. And I'm not too worried about the "mud bay" footing this year- I'll be sporting Hot Pink w/ Leopard spot wellies. I'm a little worried though they will clash w/ my red/white/blue Freedom Gunworks jersey! :D

Looking forward to a great match- counting down the weeks!

  2. SharonAnne,

My prayers are with you that your recovery will continue to progress so that you may find joy in shooting and other activities again.

We have a young man here in town (he's about 30) who, after several failed attempts are getting some help, was successfully fitted with a Spinal Cord Stimulator in early December of last year. Almost immediately he felt relief and today, just 2 months after the procedure, he's like a new person and can run and play with his kids! My prayers for you are that you experience similar success.

Hang in there and know that others are thinking about you,

    Susan

  3. Shooting USA's 2/17 edition of Impossible Shots was about a guy, Ted Gundy, who fought Battle of the Bulge and many more in Europe. It was a great piece.

We owe so much to those brave soliders of WWII, they truly are The Greatest Generation!

  4. Bobby and I got to play with one of these at Saul's booth at SHOT Show. It is VERY cool and I tried my best to sweet talk him out of one... no go. He said he had a guy offer him over $500 to take one with him (answer was no)!

Anyway, I can't wait to have one in hand. Now if only they came in pink... :D

  5. Keep your joy to yourself... us South GA folks rather like our anti-snow days!

Seriously, all the local schools here are closed and one of the other banks in town even closed early. Forecast aside, it's RAINING people! And not even a good rain at that! Geez...

  6. I was gonna ask the same question as Jim- what are you using to hold your pistols on the door, Ken?

Our 2 gun safes came with some of the velcro pouches for pistols to hang on the doors. We quickly got rid of those, as they don't seem to want to hold anything larger than a Ruger .380! Would love to know a better alternative that doesn't compromise the integrity of the safe.

  7. Rothenburg ob der Tauber. A Walled medeval city.

I will second Rothenburg. I stayed there for 3 days back in 1999 and it was wonderful! A great home base for seeing the famed Romantic Road and the town is very nice with friendly people. Shouldn't be too crowded in March either.

Also, I would suggest Bacharach, which is on the Rhine River. I stayed in the Hotel Kranenturm there and it was wonderful- parts of the towel of the hotel are thousands of years old! You can take a scenic boat tour of the Rhine while in the town and visit some of the vineyards on the hillside. Gorgeous!

  8. I will be spending a week in Manhattan (staying and working near the Empire State Building). I will be occupied from 8-5 each day. And truthfully, I am as likely to grab something quick to eat, do a quick workout, and then veg in front of the TV each evening, but I would like some suggestion for other options. I am not going to spend the money to go to a bunch of Broadway shows (I have already seen Wicked, and not interested in the others). I am not a sports fan. I have been to the top of the empire state building, but will definitely go see the WTC site. Food Channel says the Grimmaldi's Pizza under the Brooklyn bridge is worth the trip, but....

    Suggestions?

    Mark K.

Mark, when you are going? I'll be there mid-March visiting my brother.

  9. So post the recipe. I think I'm making some venison or moose chili this weekend.

Bobby made a huge crockpot of venison chili last night. We ate big ol' bowls of it over rice with sour cream and shredded cheddar. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Bobby and I are heading to Brunswick, GA today after work. Tomorrow morning, we'll participate in our 1st Steel Match at Coastal Georgia Gun Club. I  shooting steel, so it should be fun! (Hopefully my excitement will carry me through the 25 degree weather that's expected at the start of the match!)

AND, we pick up our Dillon 1050 from a local shooter there too, so now I can load my 9mm ammo even faster. Heck, who am I kidding... I mean BOBBY can load it even faster! :roflol::roflol::roflol:

  11. I just received the first Front Sight of 2010 and it has my Nationals Article in it (page 51). I am so excited, all the long hours at the range and in front of the computer paid off and the Ladies are getting the recognition and coverage that they deserve (see this thread)

The reason for this post is not to bang my own drum but to offer up some thanks to Julie Golob and Kippi Leatham who guided me through my first article, without their input it would have been ghastly. Thanks also to the competitors for the great quotes about the match, I'm looking forward to doing this all again at the 2010 Nationals.

I read your article last night- it's awesome! Thank you SO much for such great women's coverage. You did an AWESOME job!:bow::bow:

  12. Most companies that provide homeowner's insurance allow you to schedule your guns for an additional cost. It's worth the cost to me.

We have our Homeowners Insurance through Cotton States and firearms can be added on. We haven't done this yet (it's on the proverbial "REALLY Need To Do List"), but I have talked w/ my agent about it and she advised us to put them at replacement cost as well. For Cotton States, they require any item valued over $1,000 to have an appraisal done by someone in the industry.

  13. Looking for incite as to shipping on primers and powder in the same package.

Is it up to the vendor's discretion ?

I see some that will ship in one carton, and therfore only one Hazemat fee.

I see others that will only ship individually.

    What's The Story ?

    Thanks

It can be done, according to both FedEX and UPS... the hazardous materials, in this case primers and powder, must be packaged in individual cardboard boxes and then packaged together in 1 box called an "Overpack". The outside of the overpack box must be labeled as such and all types of hazardous materials contained inside the box must be properly noted on the exterior.

There are weight limits that can be shipped in each container. I believe (and don't quote me on these exact figures) it's about 75,00 primers in 1 package and 100 pounds of powder in a package. So, if you are ordering more than these amounts, they cannot be shipped together and would result in 2 HazMat fees. But if your order is less than that, I'm not sure why the company won't combine them...
