  1. This changes how I have used the unit. It still does not like to be over half full. It turns freely but does not clean as well. I run it with S/S media and brass to the half way point. After the brass is cleaned I take it to the sink and pour out the dirty and fill it to the top of the brass 2 times and dump it. I fill it almost all the way to the top and let it run for about 10 minutes. This gives the brass a good rinse. Now its ready to be separated and set out to dry.

I still use the corn cob and old vibrating tumble to put a final shine on the brass. The corn cob never gets dirty and last somewhat longer. It still breaks down.

  2. you can treat the media with brasso, but I usually leave the top off of my tumbler in the garage in hopes that most of the dust will just float out.

I wouldn't do that. Brasso has ammonia in it which can weaken brass.

Really? a capfull of Brasso in 1.5 gallon of corn cob media is going to weaken brass?

Have you run tests to determine the level of ammonia in the corn cob media and how much that would weaken brass?

I see this repeated a lot. I could understand it if maybe we were soaking our brass in Brasso for days but they way we do it? I don't see an issue.

I quite shooting rifles for about 15 years. Some of the brass that I had tumbled with Brasso became brittle. I shot some of my 223 reloads and had the shoulder separate from the rest of the case. I do not use it at all now.

I have several older friends that I shoot and reload with. My place seems to be where everybody want to reload at. I end up cleaning a lot of brass. When Im using vibrating tumbler I keep the lid off and have no issues with dust. It is easier to empty the tumbler his way. Im a big fan of Nu finish and mineral sprits.

  3. I don't mean this to sound like it comes out but why would you want to engage a steel target that close. Was the course set up in a way that made you go back to hit the popper? It seems like the course should be set to keep this from happening

  4. Right now im using Berrys 115gn and auto comp at 6.1 gns which is far from major because im getting a chrono for christmas.

As far as the lonewolf i guess it depends on what you wanted to use it for. Im really happy with the sjc for this, i got a Lonewolf barrel for my G35 limited gun and had problems with lead realods getting caught in the chamber. It was really frustrating untill i had a gun shop open the chamber a bit. The way I look at it what is $50 over the life of the gun?

What are you buying the barrel for?

I have heard that a lot of the aftermarket barrels do not like lead bullets. After you had it opened up does it still function with jacketed bullets. The reason I ask is Im building a Double Diamond AR to go with my glock and want to shoot lead in both of them. I just don't want to turn the AR into a lead only gun. I want to open up both chambers buy the same gun smith so I will have a better chance of shooting the same size bullet in both

  5. i use both the s/s media and the Nu finish with corncob. I had to make some bearing housings for the S/S thumblers thumbler. Be aware that the plastic bearings do not like the added weight. If you keep it light it will work. I like the Nu finish with corn cob. I use a large vibrating tumbler from Harbor Freight. I had originally bought it as a ceramic media tumbler for machined parts. The biggest draw back to the Nu finish and mineral sprits is that if it sits for a day or so the mineral sprits evaporates. DO NOT BUY odorless mineral spirits.

  6. Looking to take a aftermarket barrel and have the chamber enlarged for cast bullets. I now that most aftermarket barrels have a tight chamber. Just looking for a ready made recipe that some one is currently using. Want to hear from people using .357 or .358 bullets. I will be casting my own. There will be two of us using the same reloads so I want to have a machinist do both barrels at the same time.

Looking for info like what barrel you are using, chamber size, what size bullet, and who did you barrel work.

  7. I have drums of brass and a few thousand pounds of lead and do not want to keep storing all this stuff. I really only want to reload for 300 blackout and 9mm. I don't know all the rules for IDPA so just asking what issues come up with the conversion. I am really interested in comments from people that have done this.

  8. Just wanted to get some ideas from other shooters. I just bought some scrap steel plate. It is 12.5" x 15" (5ps) I want to make 5 targest to pratice for OUTLAW STEEL. Do you like to pratice with smaller "targets or full size targest. I was thinking of 7" ROUND with valve spring and bolt or maybe cutting the corners and angling the plate down at about 15 degrees.

I also need to make stands. I want the set up to not be too heavy. That is why I was thinking of 7" plate. What kind of stand have you seen?
