  1. Quote: from Vince Pinto on 12:46 am on Nov. 15, 2002 Update: I've proposed the following revised wording in bold to the IPSC Production Division rules: "18. Single action only pistols not allowed. First shot must be double action. Competitors in this division who, after the issuance of the start signal and prior to making the first shot, cock the hammer on a handgun which has a loaded chamber, shall incur one procedural penalty per occurrence. Note that a procedural penalty shall not be assessed if the first double action shot attempted fails to discharge due to a malfunction or for courses of fire where the ready condition requires the competitor to prepare the handgun with an empty chamber . In these cases, the competitor may fire the first shot single action.". Note that this is not a new rule yet, just a proposal, but it seems none of my committee have any major objections. I predict someone will blame poor stage design for giving some Production shooters an unfair advantage of a single action first shot when a start position requires the gun to be unloaded, lying flat on the table, with the muzzle pointing down range.
  2. Quote: from Mark Perez on 9:52 am on Nov. 14, 2002 That is news to me re: gloves and elbow braces. Request some type of pad material (like carpet) for the positions that require kneeling , the MD should extend this small courtesy to his customers if he wants them to keep coming back. I shoot with wrist braces occasionally, and have seen others use shooting gloves. No one protested, but I was told that I could not use knee pads, unless they were hidden under my jeans. We use rugs, but that seems to occomplish the same thing that knee pads do. Where is the logic?
  3. Quote: from Vince Pinto on 1:59 pm on Nov. 14, 2002 The banned holster was the German made "Speedsec5" for the SIG226 which is pictured here. I translated the page with Babelfish, and the best I can tell is that the holster will allow the pistol to still be drawn even when it is in the locked position. Is this the problem that led to it being banned?
  4. Quote: from Vince Pinto on 9:39 am on Nov. 14, 2002 Did you call me, my son? Jesus loves you, but everybody else thinks you're a %$*#&@ (Edited by Vince Pinto at 11:42 pm on Nov. 14, 2002) I entered %$*#&@ into my Dick Tracy Decoder and got the word, prince. Sorry, that was Decoder '98. I downloaded the new Decoder XP version and %$*#&@ means.....!^(&*$)%. Can we say that here?. (Edited by omnia1911 at 1:38 pm on Nov. 14, 2002)
  5. It sound like we need a new forum....."Apologies and Confessions". Do we have any priests to act as moderator?
  6. IDPA doesn't allow knee pads in competiiton, well....they do as long as they are hidden under your pants. If it is sunny and hot, and you are wearing shorts, you can't wear them at all. What is with that rule? They allow you to wear wrist and elbow braces, and Past shooting gloves. IDPA shooters spend a lot of time kneeling and crawling around on the ground. Some of the range surfaces that we have to contend with can cut your knees to pieces. Is this the price to pay for shooting this sport? Knee injuries can shorten our shooting careers in IDPA if they don't change this rule.
  7. Quote: from Vince Pinto on 9:55 pm on Nov. 13, 2002 I was there and I was a member of the Arbitration Committee which considered the appeal against the DQ. We determined that the competitor had indeed holstered his gun (thereby ending the course of fire), however the holster failed to properly retain the gun. We reinstated the competitor and banned the holster from the competition (this only affected two competitors who were able to find replacments very easily). What holster was banned?
  8. Quote: from EricW on 10:03 am on Nov. 13, 2002 There's an old saw in statistics that goes, "The average person has one testicle and one breast." Boy, am I glad I'm not average!
  9. Rule 2.1.8 Target Placement * Care must be taken with the physical placement of paper targets to prevent "shoot throughs". I don't know how we manage to get away with course design that includes "clam shell" target stands, "pop up no shoots", and other devices that violate this rule. 10. Quote: from Vince Pinto on 10:05 pm on Nov. 11, 2002 Yes, I am listening and the matter is on my "To Do" list. Thanks.
  11. Quote: from Erik Warren on 12:18 pm on Nov. 11, 2002 omnia1911, then by that logic you would give an extra shot penalty to someone who runs his gun dry and goes "click" on a Virginia Count stage. That's great, just great. I agree the rulebook should be more clear about the DA triger pull vs. shot. IPSC rules committee...are you listening?
  12. If a gun is designed for a "standard capacity" of 16 rounds and a shooter uses a 20 round magazine, what should we call it, an "increased capacity" magazine? I guess my point is that there is no universal meaning to any of these terms. They are just word games. The anti gun groups are good at this when they want to flame the fires of public hysteria. (Edited by omnia1911 at 11:55 am on Nov. 10, 2002)
  13. Vince, The term "standard capacity", in my case, (1911 single stack) refers to 7 rounds. I carry with 8 round mags and compete in IPSC with 10 round mags. In my case, the standard capacity is the reduced capacity. Vince, some of us don't shoot Glocks. :-) (Edited by omnia1911 at 10:47 am on Nov. 10, 2002)
  14. Your question header should have been "Sanctioned vs. Tournament vs. Prize table?" Whether or not a match gets used for classification purposes is dependent on the quality, and the quantity, of GMs that show up at the match. Some shooters go to the trouble and the expense of attending certain matches in the hopes of moving up in class. It can be quite a disappopintment, when after getting to the match, the attendence was not what one expected.
  15. OK, I GET IT! You hate me even making an innocent observation.
  16. It's a bit troubling to see the "What I Hate" board lead the "What I Like" board by nearly 2 to 1 in both posts and views. Is this human nature, or just an idiosyncrasy with IPSC shooters?
  17. Quote: from Erik Warren on 10:08 am on Nov. 7, 2002 Certain people are of the opinion that a nervous shooter who fails to chamber a round at LAMR, goes click in DA, racks the gun to chamber a round, and fires his first shot SA... should be moved to Open. Technically that would be the shooter's second shot. The problem is the rule book's use of the word shot, rather than trigger pull.
  18. Quote: from TheItlianStalion on 11:55 am on Nov. 6, 2002 "If you want to be competitive in pro.class, you HAVE to buy a gun with at least 16 round capacity." Why is that? I believe Spook is referring to IPSC Production Division. It doesn't have a 10 round capacity rule like USPSA Production Division. Those who have 16 round mags for their production guns have a definite advantage over those who only have 10 round mags.
