  1. The trigger pull on my STI Open blaster had been getting  bad.  Mostly it was just inconsistant so I finally decided to put one of my fat grips on it and fix the trigger job at the same time.  When I changed the grip I pulled out the blue anodized ITS Tri-Glide trigger bow to install in the fat grip and the top of the long flat insert fell on the table leaving the rest of the insert still in the trigger bow.  Hmm.  Well that's probably the reason for the gritty trigger pull, but wait!  On closer inspection the ball insert had fallen out as well.

I installed my spare ITS Tri-Glide trigger bow with another long flat insert and my trigger pull is back to a nice 1.5 lbs.

Too bad I was in the middle of an El Presidente when I learned that I didn't get the overtravel adjustment right.

  2. I hope her husband isn't related to John Philip Sousa.  If my memory (what's left of my memory) serves, John Philip Sousa was a GUN enthusiast and a noted collector of fine firearms.

Maybe someone should point out the possible relationship.  Hopefully she would be so disgusted that she divorces Mr. Sousa who retains custody of Chloe who goes on to win the Gold medal for Free Pistol at the 2018 Olympics.  All because of a spelling lesson.

  3. The 3 wheeled carts are slightly modified jogging strollers.  They sell for about $90-$100 in the discount sports stores.  They sell used for a whole lot less on ebay or flea markets.

Check out the modifications on the $300 versions and then spend $20 bucks to modify a used one.

  4. Nose Oil!

Wipe the oil off your nose with your thumb and index finger and use it to lube the powder funnel about every 5th round.  It will keep the sticking to a minimum.

If you don't want a black, lead or copper coated nose use a very lightly lubed case lube pad and just touch your index finger to the pad, then wipe it on the side of the powder funnel.  Don't use too much and don't put it on the bottom of the funnel or your powder will stick to it.

I have been wondering if the 1050 powder funnel would work on the 550 or 650?  It's just a tapered funnel without the straight sides of the 550 powder funnel.  On the 1050 I can't tell any difference between new brass and used brass on the powder measure.

I guess I'll have to try it out.

I wanna see him pitch Hosercams.

Just as long as he doesn't do it from the Men's Room like Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun!

Don't forget that stupid dent remover thingy he sells too...

Maybe Jean Claude Van Dumb should get one of those dent thingys for that dent in his forehead, oops nevermind that's a lump not a dent!

Don't forget the Dremel tool knock-off he sells to clean the grout in your tiles that the Oxy-Moron didn't clean.

  7. The Dillon Strong Mount works by spreading out the footprint of the mount.  You can do the same thing by using a metal plate.  I used surplus 1/4 inch aluminum plates that were about 18 inches long and 6 inches wide.  I drilled and bolted the plates to the plywood/MDF bench top.  I drilled and tapped multiple mounting patterns on the plates so that I can swap my shotgun presses, single stage, 550s, 1050s, etc...   I also drilled extra holes in the mounting plates to hold the shell holder pins so they don't get lost when I remove them from the press to weigh charges, etc...

If you want I'll take some photos and post or email them.

  8. We seem to be well represented in Front Sight.  I was quoted in the "Race Gun Nationals" article towards the end of page 42.

'Good-naturedly' he he thank you Robin Taylor for the benefit of a doubt and for removing the 4 "F" words from my quote!

By that time Team 'Shroom was about ready to rename themselves as Team Toadstool.

  9. I hate biting my tongue! Hate it Hate it Hate it!

I hate seeing a post in "Questions that don't fit anywhere" about "Year end awards, what does your club do?"  Ohhh I hate biting my tongue, but hey I've already been pink slipped as a Range Officer for complaining about the clubs failure to meet two years worth of year end award obligations so I guess I'll bite my tongue again so that I won't be banned from the range.

Ohhh I hate biting my tongue!

Check to see if the nose of the extractor is hitting against the case.  When the case is against the breechface the front of the extractor may be touching the front of the extractor groove in the case.

Also take a look at the barrel to see if the extractor is hitting the rear of the barrel.

  11. David,

Check some of the brass you fired from the AET barrel in your case gauge.  If they drop right in, the chamber is smaller than your case gauge.  A quick fix until you can get an undersize die and smaller case gauge would be to use the barrel to gauge your ammo.

I don't know if the AET barrels can be reamed, if they can that may fix it.

If the fired brass doesn't fit in the case gauge you may have other problems.  When the slide stops out of battery can you push it forward into battery?  What happens when you slightly retract the slide just enough to take spring tension off the round and then release the slide?

    Are you running shok buffs?

What kind of bullets?  I've seen moly coated lead bullets loaded long jam up on the barrel lead because the moly coat was too thick.  Some case gauges will catch this, some won't.

    What are the extraction failures?

Try some new unfired brass before you go sending it off to be fixed.

  12. I use an old non-functional refrigerator for storing primers and gunpowder.  The primers go in the freezer compartment and the powder goes in the 'fridge compartment.  A couple of rechargeable silica gel cans keep the humidity under control.  The insulation keeps the temperature pretty stable even on the hottest days in the summer.

In the event of an internal fire the magnetic door gasket will allow the door to pop open venting the pressure reducing the possibility/severity of an explosion.

  13. Yes, I've had an STI slide crack on my open gun at about 25,000 rounds.  It cracked at the bottom front of the ejection port just above the rails.  The slide was basically unmodified except for internal lightening cuts at the rear of the slide.

  14. I second 2alphas comment.  I was having the same problem with my 1050.  Cases would get stuck sideways in the funnel about every 20 rounds while I was loading, but in testing would run hundreds of rounds through without failure until I shook the case feeder.  Whoops!

I added a big steel plate to my bench top and bolted the press to the steel plate.  No more jammed cases!

I hate jerk-offs who tailgate, cut people off, and in general drive like the morning commute is a NASCAR event!  So you bought a ______(insert useless vanity mobile type here) and you want to show the world how cool you are.  FINE!  Go to a freaking race track!

I've always wanted to make a bumper sticker that read:

    "This isn't Daytona!

    You're not Dale Jr.!

    And you're not drafting!"

But by the time they got close enough to read it they probably would have already rear-ended me.

  16. Between my brother Gene and I we own and regularly use 5 progressive presses (1-1050, 2-550, 1-Pro1000, 1-Mec) and 1 single stage press.  The single stage hasn't been bolted to the reloading bench in over a year.

I wish Hangloader, er Handlouder, er Handloader would have done a little research before making such blanket statements.  A few phone calls to RCBS, Dillon, Lee, Hornady, Midway, etc... would have straightened up the facts.

  17. The frame carries the serial number and is really the only controlled part.  Slides, barrels, etc... are unaffected.  The gun or frame must have been transfered from an FFL to a buyer in California before the Safe Handgun bill went into effect.  There is no registeration.

After the Safe Handgun bill went into effect only  guns that were on the Safe Handgun list can be sold new.  New frames even for guns on the Safe Handgun list cannot be sold in the Poeples Republic of Kalifornia.
