  1. I'm surprised that neither of the sports has gone to an electronic method of registering shooters for major matches at least.

USPSA has online squadding but you still have to send a paper form and a check to the MD to get registered.

The CT state,New England Regional, and Winter Nationals IDPA matches all use online registration and squadding.

  2. My home club is about 20 minutes away. I shoot both IDPA and USPSA there every month. There's another IDPA club about 40 minutes away that I shoot every month. There's a USPSA club that puts on great matches about 90 minutes away that I go to if I have the day free. There's another USPSA club about an hour away that I only attend if my girlfriend is away as it's a smaller 4 stage match. I drive an hour for a 4 stage indoor match in the winter because it's the only chance to shoot USPSA Dec-Mar.

  3. So if a single ICORE location is 30-40 participation and multiple same area/vicinity USPSA locations are 2-5 participation, and the primary difference is 8 shot acceptance, I would think that is sufficient empirical evidence to suggest the change, and I unscientifically think this holds true accross the country.

I'm pretty sure not allowing semi-autos is a bigger difference than allowing 8 shot revolvers.

  4. Some IDPA matches around here played with the team concept for a bragging rights award a few years ago, haven't heard about it lately. It was 4 person teams, each different divisions and different classes. Ie: SSP Master, ESP expert, SSR sharpshooter, and ESR marksman. Add up the total time for team score. If I were doing the the same for USPSA, I'd make it 3 person teams, Open, Limited, and Production with some kind of class point system with a max. Add up the total match points. The problem with opening it to any mix of divisions is match points are easier to come by in the less populous divisions.

  5. I wonder when was the last time that data was updated...

Did you miss where Rob said that it uses the same database as the new site? It's completely up to date.

It's definitely not up to date on state level. There are at least three production GMs in Texas, and the data shows two.

Weird. I know a guy who just made M in Production in RI and he shows up. (No PRD A's show in RI, so the M must be him).

  6. To add to Evan's post, the other problem I see new and experienced shooters alike have at bigger matches is not being used to that much shooting in a day. Make sure you're well rested and hydrated and make sure to keep drinking water all day. Have a few snacks in your bag to keep your energy up. A 10+ stage major is a lot more fatiguing that a typical 4-6 stage club match.

  7. 5" M&P slides are basically "unavailable" from Smith & Wesson. The 9 and the 40.

They claim they are putting every one they build on new guns. I'm guessing they don't want to sell them, because you can then simply turn your full-size into a Pro for a few hundred bucks. I'm sure they have them for warranted repairs, but they'll keep your broken one.

    Jeff

Given how many reports I've seen lately of difficulty finding complete 5" guns, I'm inclined to believe them for now. I know someone who bought a slide and did the conversion about a year ago, though he is a S&W certified armorer.

  8. I shoot a Ruger in an indoor gallery league in the winter. It holds the x ring easily with good ammo. If you're just starting out, I think it's the best value. If I got more serious about it, I'd go for one of the fancy euro target guns like Pardini, Walther, Hammerli, etc.

I have a Tac-Sol 1911 conversion on the way, but that's for cheap practice for USPSA. I'll see how it compares accuracy wise.
