  1. My new-ish 930 is failing to fire on every round loaded automatically. IE, Bang, click, rack, bang, click, rack, etc. It's feeding fine and the bolt appears to be fully in battery and pushing it forward before pulling the trigger has no effect. Any ideas?

I shot a match last week and it ran 200 rounds flawlessly. Tried to shoot it yesterday and it had the above problem. Cleaned it thoroughly and lubed the crap out of it today and still the same.

  2. Scorekeepimg is a task that many don't recognize as an "RO Function" and blow it off as meaningless. They simply don't get it. It has a huge effect on the outcome of the match and merits attention. In fact, while it is the more silent function of RO'ing, it can be the most important.

Agree 100%. In my RO course, the guy with the scoresheet was referred to as the off-side RO. His job is to watch for all the things the RO with the timer might miss by focusing on the gun, like foot faults, 11 round mags in production, etc.

I highly recommend the RO class for anyone who takes this game seriously, even if you don't plan to RO regularly. Knowing the rules will probably save your bacon in a match at some point, so it's definitely worth giving up a weekend of practice time or a club match to learn them.

  3. << You can't predict weather >> You are right, that's why everyone should shoot the match on the same day(s), that's the fairest way to do it.

Then matches can only accomodate 1/3 of the shooters they currently do. Personally, I don't think that's worth the tradeoff.

<< Can't understand why SO's should shoot their matches >> Having helped setup stages gives someone a unique chance to carefully lay out the best way to shoot it, something by rule the match competitors aren't allowed to do. If that makes you too tired to shoot well maybe you should look at going to the gym. I have seen so called surprize stages where the guy who won the stage by over 30% helped build it. I have watched SO's shoot a stage one way and on match day change up the WSB'ing making it more dificult for the main match. I have also SO's get multiple reshoots while they "finetuned" the stage while only the final run was recorded for the match score. And I have watched the Match Director's wife win the custom random raffle pistol 3 years in a row, after HE drew her name out of the 'hat'. And I have watched a SO's be required to make a call on another competitor that would decide who between them would be Division Champion. While I think he made the right call he should never have been placed in that position in the first place. You eliminate all of these problems by separating the SO's and the Match competitors results. Yes it makes it more dificult to recruit match staff but integrey and professionalism never comes without a cost.

The solution to this isn't to not allow SO's to shoot the same match, it's to not allow them to cheat. I've never seen anything like this in the northeast. Surprise stages shouldn't be allowed in sanctioned matches for exactly this reason, it's impossible to make them fair. I think 'makes it more difficult to recruit match staff' understates the issue. I think it's more like 'makes impossible to hold matches'.

  4. I had a great run at a rifle match yesterday, and the RO told me that it was the best he's seen me shoot and if I keep getting better people will have to watch out. The best though was JJ freakin' Racaza handing me my mags and saying nice run at the first stage of Area 7. Calmed the jitters right down, and I shot one of my best majors yet. Getting better and having occasional great stages is what keeps me coming back to this game.

  5. Since the match is supposed to be the same for everyone how do you deal with nice weather on the SO shooitng day and rain on the shooting day for everyone else? And just what is so bad about the SO's shooting their own match, complete with awards? And before someone ask's, yes I have SO'ed and shot more then one sanctioned match, as well as worked most if not all of the other match offical positions.

Because the whole point of shooting a major match is to see how you stack up against broader competition. If I couldn't shoot the match for real, I wouldn't volunteer to SO. Weather is just luck of the draw, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Most of the sanctioned matches around here are 1 day format with a staff match friday, and public squads sat and sun, so it doesn't just affect the staff.

To anyone who thinks working the match is an advantage, come on out, we could use the help.

  6. It's not a matter of being a stickler for the rules. Even for a lvl1 match, you have to be able to create the webfile.txt file to upload results and also create the classification activity file to report classifier results, so you still need to get the scores into ezws.

Yes, but it remains that there has to be some way to get the scoring data into ezws.

What he's saying he'd do is generate the same output format as the palms do and then import that in to ezwinscore as if he used palms. This will work fine, exactly like palm scoring, but it's not legal.

  7. The one thing that would be really helpful in following interim results is some way of adjusting for who's shot what. Obviously it'll never be perfect because the HHF can change, but something like percent of available points earned would help. In other words:

Shooter A has 100 points so far and has shot a 60 point stage and a 40 point stage. Shooter B also has 100 points, but has shot a 100 point stage and a 60 point stage. Both shooters have the same score, but clearly shooter A is ahead of shooter B. If you could see standings by % of available, A would be at 100% and B would be at 62.5%.

  8. Uhh the files dropped into the directory for palm scoring are pretty basic text files. I've created them by hand. It wouldn't be too hard to make an application that just dropped files of that format in a directory you tell ezwinscore is there for a palm. That a palm wasn't used to generate that file is kind of irrelevant.

It's relevant if you're a stickler for the rules. 9.11.1 says in part: "PDA’s or handheld computers may be used for the collection of scoring data for transfer to ezWinScore, provided the program and procedure has been approved by the USPSA President." At a level 1, I doubt anyone would care, but it won't fly for an area or national match.

  9. I assume that since the CED is built around IPSC rules where the "Classic" has lost the "B" that we will either simply score B's as C's (Same Points) or we CED will build a USPSA model. Looks liek a really nice idea, I'd like a package price for 10 timers, 10 printers and the PC interface program when available.

We discussed these issues in the CED7000 Pro thread here: www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=136220

It seems DAA is at least receptive to these concerns and looking in to EZWS support.
