  1. Figures... whish we had a more accurate way to gauge pressure in our guns.

I bought a pound of HS6 to try.

Need to work up a 115 & 124 load up & see how it feels in my gun.

A little disappointed with WAC after my recent gun malfunctions with unburned powder chunks. Strange, never a hint of this in previous containers of WAC.

Yet again my best advice is to move on from WAC to make major despite the success many have with it.  Not saying it is the sole problem but it's not helping.  Especially at over 170 pf with lighter bullets.

I also cracked a slide last year, and was running WAC with 124's and then 115's. That certainly doesn't prove much, but its an interesting correlation.

Your thinking that WAC is still too fast for major PF in 9 ?

I haven't tried HS6 in years, but maybe its time... cracking slides is no bueno.

  3. Also, its good to warm up the whole grip, tape & mummy tape wrap again now. Nothing crazy, but warming it up now and letting it set for a day will help it stay in place until you want to remove it.

  4.

Once the tape is completely applied, I wrap the grip with 1 layer of thin paper towel and then use common electrical tape to wrap the entire grip tight.

The paper towel is there to protect your grip tape from getting adhesive from the electrical tape on it.

The electric tape is a little elastic and if you apply it with tight wraps (think mummy), it will hold your grip tape very tight to your grip while its on there setting up.

  5. Blood Orange skateboard tape has great adhesive and very aggressive texture. My hands took a while to get used to it, but the gun does not move in your grip.

Regarding application technique, your grip surface must be 100% clean. I use alcohol (90%+) to clean.

The warm grip and tape during application really helps get a good bond.

Mobil 1 0w20 synthetic for when its really cold (below 30-40F).

5w30 the rest of the time.

  7. Had a 2 malfunctions today toward the end of practice where my gun wasn't going all the way into battery. Rounds looked fine and dropped in/out of the chamber freely.

Bagged the gun after this. Cleaning the gun afterwards revealed lots of unburned chunks of powder in my gun... something new for me with WAC. The unburned powder chunks were all over the place and presumably caused the failure to go completely into battery. These are the first malfunctions in this gun in 1000 rounds.

I started using WAC last year and just started my 4th 8 pound container with the ammo I was shooting today. Have not seen any chunks like this with WAC until today. This is the same load, gun & lube I've used for the last 1000 rounds. The only thing new is the freshly opened 8lb container of WAC (lot# 80119162274).

My load is 7.4gr WAC, MG115JHP @ 1.130. This averaged 1495fps last week using powder from my previous 8lb container with no chunks of unburned powder.

Will chrono the load next time at the range.

I admit to having OLD eyes, but I don't see the difference between the

    115's and the 124's ...

It's a pretty minimal difference to be sure. The edges of the primer bottoms are a little less round on the 124's. Easier to see in natural lighting with your eyes than in the pic.

The main point for me was that it was not what I was expecting. With the higher powder charges, I was looking for the 115's to show signs of higher pressure, and the primers didn't show that.

It seems like the 115's reduced mass to accelerate and reduced bearing surface offsets the higher powder charge, and then some.

  9. Red Rock Rover sling pack is just big enough for what you need between stages ($23 at Amazon).

Bullets & snacks in main compartment.

ProGrip & multitool in top pocket.

CED 6 mag pouch folded in half, just fits in the front pocket.

Nice hidden CCW stash in the back can be used for whatever.

Small pack keeps me from lugging all the stuff I really don't need.

  10. Pro Ears are awesome. Their Tac Plus Gold's are my favorite.

Shooting open, I double plug with foamies and then these muffs. Crank up the volume and you can hear the B in the BEEP along with your bullets moving up in your magazine -  even with foamies in.

What I like about the Pro Ears best is that normal sounds are still there while the damaging high db sounds are limited. You can easily understand conversations while shots are being fired (training, etc..).

  11. Only 1000 rounds with the RTS2 so far, but I'm very happy with the performance.

The 6MOA dot is round and as bright or low as I want it in different lighting. I like that it returns to my previous brightness by default.

And of course, the small size is the biggest plus. With a CK mount, the dot is only 1.1" over the bore centerline compared to 1.9" with my traditional C-Mores and upright mounts. Nice improvement there. It's much easier to rack the slide now without having the back of the optic in the way too.

Mine tested as a v4 and I've experienced zero issues with it (dot turning off, blinking, etc.).

    Just ordered another :)

don't know this for fact... but.. someone told me that shooting 115's versus 124's is more damaging to a slide on a major gun...

I've heard that as well with Limted guns.

However, the specific instance I know of with lighter bullets and a slide crack was most probably caused by the reduced recoil spring used with the lighter bullets.

Seems like slide velocity would be the primary variable for tearing up a good slide.

I did some comparisons between 170 and 175PF 115 & 124gr bullets last week. Mostly trying to determine what shot the best between those loads, but I saved brass from each as well. The primers in the brass from the 124gr loads were flattened slightly more than their same PF 115 counterparts. Not an accurate pressure test, but all I have to go on.

The 115 loads have more powder & gas and that should retard rearward slide velocity more than the 124 loads of same PF. Assuming the same recoil spring, there should be less impact & stress on the slide.
