  1. Awesome looking piece. I am hoping that you might figure out a way to attach one to a P226 without the milled slot. Maybe a set-screw? Fingers crossed.....

A practical magwell retro fit to the standard 226 is not likely mainly due to cost. However, according to one of the VPs at SIG the standard p226 frames may come from the factory with the magwell mounting rails in the near future.

If the machining is all that is necessary, is GGI or any other Sig company set-up to machine these two cuts in while they're working on a pistol?

It could be done but I don't think anyone is setup to do it. You might talk to Todd at Customized Creations. Just a FYI, the material isn't there on the standard frames to recreate the entire mounting rail.

  2. I just picked up a new X5 All Around 9mm to shoot in Production Class. What holsters are you guys using or could recommend?

I use and would recommend a Blade Tech.

I assume it must be their SRB model as I don't see any others that would work for production.

    That is correct.

  3. If they tell u they are getting 23 40s&w in any 2011 with 140 mags. You need to tell the to stop! 22 maybe 23 never. Not legal not a chance. IMHO :angry:

Sorry but I know for a fact that one of the guys I shoot with does have two mags that will hold and run with 23 rnds and it does fit the gauge.

  5. I shoot a X5 AR 9mm in production and I have shot my X5 Tactical 9mm in limited mainly testing magwells.

I have a X5 Competition in the works that hopefully will be able to hold its own with the STIs. I should be able to get 20 and maybe even 21 rounds of 40 in the mags however it is not a minor undertaking as it requires modification of the frame.

A couple of guys I shoot with have STI mags that hold 23!! But the mags are so expensive and easily damaged they only use them at major matches. So I think if I can run 20 or 21 in a 100% reliable mag I think my ability will be my limiting factor.

  6. gray Guns does great work. I've had several projects that have all been great! Buy with 100% confidence!!

I had a much different experience

You appear to be the only one. Plus you seem to enjoy searching around looking for a chance to make your claim.

When I get good service I tell everyone that I did. When I get poor service, poor workmanship, and a poor response, I tell those that did the work. When the complaint falls of deaf ears, I tell everyone every chance I get so the buyer can make their own decisions.

I am very happy you have had good luck. I know others that have also. I spent over $600 and had to send the gun to the Sig factory to get it to run. Last straw was when it would not reset.

I have been self employed for over 20 years. In that time, I have done everything possible to prevent poor workmanship. Sometimes things happen and I understand that. How the mistake or poor work is addressed is the mark of a good business man. I have always been able to satisfy my customers sometime to the point I lost money on the job. In this case, I lost money on poor workmanship. If you think I am supposed to accept that and sit silently by, you Sir, are mistaken.

Had GGI offered to make this right at any point, I would probably be singing their praises also.

I will repeat my original, I had a much different experience than the poster I quoted.

I am very familiar with the GGI customer service policy and based on that I have to say you must not be telling the whole story.

  7. I shoot an Allround in production. Never had an issue. Mine has been through Grayguns and has Bruce's short reset trigger and enhanced leverage package. Right now GGI has a pretty quick turnaround time for standard work in the the 3 to 4 week range.

I run a wolff 14 lb spring and have never had an issue. I did have a situation where the brass was barely making it out of the gun once after installing a new spring. It turned out that out of a batch of 6 springs that I had bought 2 of them were 3 coils longer than the other 4. :surprise:

I have run 130gr MG FMJ and 125 Zero JHPs and 115gr MG JHPs all loaded to approx 132-135PF. It shot great with all of them. Probably my favorite combo is the Zero 125 JHPs over Solo1000 or N320.

I have 10 guns that have been worked over by GGI as well as several guns built/worked on by several other well known gunsmiths. I have never once seen an issue with GGI's work and I have had first hand experience with many GGI guns beyond my own.

  9. Rob was shooting the 5.25 XDm, I think BJ was shooting a glock, Enoch an M&P.

Plates got a lot of people this year.

I think it was last year that they put shredded tires on the berm behind the plates to control water errosion.

Because it was very sunny this year and the trees are growing around that range, the shredded tires were in the shade and made it look very black. Naturally, the black iron sights were lost in the black background.

Exactly. What do you propose for a solution for next year, Bruce? I'm thinking green.

Bruce what about a stacked FO configuration?

  10. Staudacher, also sent you a US Postal money order a few days ago to order one of your Standard version magwells for my x-5 competition .40s&w. Looking forward to getting it installed on my gun.

Joel, I think you should have the magwell Monday. It went out Friday afternoon.

  11. Can anyone lead me to a higher capacity mag than the currently available 15 rd Mecgar mags?

I am using a Sig P226 X-5 Competition in .40s&w for USPSA Limited. It came with the two Sig mags, and I bought eight 15 rd Mecgar mags (had to file down the sides a little, but after that they fit just fine in the magwell).

However, I've searched everywhere for higher capacity mags than just 15 rounds. I've read the threads where Roger Sherman sells a "mousetrap" mag extension that will get me to 18 rds. Don't know much about it. Can anyone give me an idea on what the "mousetrap" costs and do any modifications need to be done to the mag?

It would just be a lot easier to buy a high capacity mag with 16, 18, or 20 rounds. And I know Promag makes a 20 rd .40s&w mag for the P226, but I've read many negative comments about these mags, even though I've never used them myself.

Does anyone know of a 16 rd mag or higher that is made for the Sig P226 .40s&w?

    Thanks.

These Basepadsmade by Lt. Col. Roger Sherman along with his springs and followers can get you up to 18. To get twenty requires a bit more effort.

  12. Been doing some searching. I am assuming the standard Dawson FO SIG front sights fit? I am good with the standard black rear sight but would like to put a FO front on the gun.

Yep it uses the standard Dawson FO for SIGs

  13. How about grips? Are they the same as a regular p226?

Yes no and maybe. How's that for an answer?

The X5's have rails for mounting the magwell. As seen here.

    X5_frame.jpg

The grip panel has to clear that rail. Older grips will not clear that rail unless they are modified. Some of the newer grips however will clear the rail.

    Another option is Hogue grips.

  14. The slide release and decocking lever are both extended on my Allround. The slide release doesnt seem to bother me. The decocking lever digs right into the base of my support hand thumb. I will order the standard 226 controls.

Interesting. My Allround is an older one and only the slide release is extended.

  15. I am supposed to go pick up a new X5 Competition model tomorrow. Bladetech makes holsters for it I see, anyone else I should check out for holsters? I would like something with some sort of retention if possible.

Do these mags fit an X5? : http://www.cdnninvestments.com/2269mm20blan.html

How about a standard 226 magazine with a basepad on it? Will that fit?

Yes the 20rnd SCT mags in your link will fit but you will need to do a little trimming of the basepad in order to clear the magwell. Can't help you much as far as holsters. I use a Blade Tech and a DAA Racemaster.
