  1. I made magwells for a while years ago. I think I might have a couple left. My competition version of the magwell was for use with Roger Sherman’s “mousetrap” basepads. I don’t know if it will work with the springer basepads or not.

  2. Actually that comp works pretty good with "normal" powders used for minor. But it will get better with more gas to a point. Once you pass that point there will not be enough energy to cycle the slide. Reguardless of recoil spring weight.

  3. Port design makes a big difference. Here is my 3rd prototype major comp compared against a Carver 4 port major comp. Video was shot at 600fps. It is amazing how with the carver comp the recoil was so harsh it made my whole hand half numb for a bit. With my comp the recoil didn't feel any worse than shooting minor PF non-comp'd gun.

Understood, please let us know what you find!

Just an FYI I probably won't be doing any extra work with the open magazine for some time. I have too many other projects on my plate and since I can run 29+1 at so far 100% reliability the magazine isn't a high priority item.

How reliable is it with the CZ follower, and are you running a CZ spring as well?

So far I haven't had any problem I've been running it with a Taylor freelance spring that is actually for a Glock limited magazine and I'm going to try Bolen spring as well

  6. I used to get my parts through a friend in Germany that shot open for SIG. He no longer shoots for SIG so that route has dried up for me. However, Heribert speaks English and you should be able to get in touch with him via email. Heribert's website

    Good luck with the gun.

My rendition of a X5 open. I designed the comp and magwell. The optic mount is from Heirbert Betterman. The comp in the picture  is actually the minor version of my comp that I use for NRA action pistol. As seen below

  8. Just for fun here it is with 9mm Major

I am using a 29rnd open magazine in the videos but i only had 2 rounds loaded so it didn't play any sigificant role in reducing muzzle flip.

  9. Legion with minor comp and American Eagle 124gr ammo. Stock spring. Note: with the stock spring it rarely cycles clean. Usually it stovepipes. This video is one of the rare times it ejected cleanly.

    Nice!

Would or should, the slide of the MK25 RX work on a 226 Legion SAO frame?

Time you bought a conversion kit and had the slide milled, bought a red dot, and had the taller sights put on to co-witness your not that far from buying another gun.

Since I am thinking of having a slide lightened to use in steel challenge, I have trial fitted a couple spare 226 slides on one of my Legion SAOs and everything was fine. The frame changes to the Legion are in the grip portion of the frame.

  10. How would you compare the the SAO triggers between an X-Five and the 226 Legion SAO?

Both of my Legion SAOs had a better trigger out of the box than the X5E. The reset on the my Legion trigger is slightly more positive and the break feels a bit cleaner. The break on my X5E is a bit vague compared to the Legions.

I only have the one new style X5 to compare so I can't say if my X5E is typical for all the new style X5s. I have heard the trigger on the higher end new X5s is much better.

All of my older style X5s have been gone through by GGI so it has been a while since I shot a stock trigger older X5 but the best I can remember I would say the Legions are comparable to what the older X5s were out of the box. The only X5 that I have experience with that stands out in my mind has having a significantly better trigger feel out of the box than the Legion was the L1.

  11. I thought about clamping to the rail but my experience with the X5 bridge mount was not good. The mount was not very ridged and did not hold well enough for precise zero. Mainly because it did not fit tight. If it were hand fitted I think a rail mount is a legitimate option and I may well end up going that route. But at the moment I am leaning towards a mount attached via screws to the frame.

  12. The the comp has been a multi year thought/design exercise. The one you see in the picture is version #6.

The magwell is one of the magwells I designed and made for the X5.

I plan on a duel sided upright mount for a RTS2 or Romeo 3.

  13. This is a work in progress. I still have to make the optic mount. Eventually I plan on this being a steel challenge open gun.

  14. I just lay my strong hand thumb on the outside of the joint of my weak hand thumb. Never had any issue with slide lock back doing it that way and to me it doesn't feel any different than thumbs forward along the side of the gun.
