  1. I'll measure the chamber, thanks. anyone know what the standard chamber for 38 super is of the top of their head? thanks again, Scott
  2. Sounds good. looks like bulging is common on some loads. I have not tried to resize any of the brass either....it may be below the die on the 550 however. thanks again Scott
  3. So if I am understanding you correctly, there is some bulging that is normal, not just the overall uniform increase in the brass diameter? Thanks
  4. The primer looks fine. It is not flattened at all. I am using Rifle primers. I have a bunch of the 124 and 130 gr bullets so maybe the powder change is the better first option. Thanks scott
  5. Hello, I am just getting into Open gun shooting and picked up a STI 38Super with a .355 barrel and am reloading 38 SuperComp Brass out of it. I have been working up a load using 124gr MG JHP, Starline 38SC brass, Win SR Primers and SR4756 Powder. I started noticing a slight bulge in the brass at 7.3 gr of powder. I can see the very slight bulge in the brass and measured it at about .0005" Not much to measure but can definitely see it. The overall length is 1.250" and according to the reloading page by Jeff Maass it should be able to load to go to 8.4 to 9.2 gr to make 180 Power factor. Currently I am getting about 1282 fps or PF =159. Question is, is it normal to see this in 38 Supers? Normally with unsupported barrels if I was to see a bulge I would say I am running too high a pressure. Thanks in advance!! Scott
  6. I'd be interested in a price for everything but the 650 conversion kit..... I have the 550.

    Thanks

  7. StealthyB - I did tweak the figure a few times trying to get the release to work correctly and ended up lightening it quite a bit but without the spent shell leaving the gun I really did not get too far and that is when I started swapping out parts. I did not swap out the bolt and should do that first and see if the extractor solves the problem. I did think about it but when the swap with the barrel and trigger assembly functioned correctly I wrote off that as being the problem. After comparing the ejectors on the 2 barrels I did notice that mine was very rounded which I figured would through off the timing slightly. The other thing that we noticed was that the shell ejected out of that barrel and the "newer" barrel was were the ejected shells were hitting the ground. Mine were about 2 ft from the gun and the other barrel was throwing them about 3-4 ft farther.....so I concluded ejector. I'll swap out the bolt and see what happens then. Thanks again scott
  8. Well this weekend I took the gun to the Range and tried to adjust the little finger that controls the timing. It kinda worked. the shell that was ejecting and the shell that came out of the mag tube would both get stuck. I borrowed my neighbors 1187 that is almost like new and swapped out the trigger and ended up with the problem. I figured it might be the ejector at this point so I put his barrel and trigger in my gun and it shot fine. Then I put just the barrel in with my trigger assembly and it had the same feeding problem. I am guessing at this point that it is a combination of wear on the trigger ass. and ejector on the barrel. The gun has somewhere between 15-20k rounds through it. Am I missing something obvious here? Thought? Thanks for all the suggestions. Scott

  10. I am running just the Dillon .40 dies and have never had an issue with them in my Glock. Scott
  11. Thanks for all the input. The gun is currently set up back in the stock configuration. Figured I should trouble shoot from a "known" condition. I have the original mag spring in the gun now and had the extended tube spring in before that and the same problem occurred. SB thanks for all the pics and video. That certainly helps explain the functionality to me. I'm guessing that it is the carrier release, at least it warrants a closer look. I have noticed a fair amount of wear on the lever arm next to that lever. Not exactly sure what its function is however. Thanks again scott
  12. I have an 1187 remington that did not seem to like to run well in the cold weather so I retired it after the factory could not fix it after 2 tries. I figured I would turn it into a 3 gun limited gun but it is not functioning too well even in the summer. The local gunsmith could not find anything wrong with it either. I took it to the range after the smith looked at it and it is still inconsistently feeding. For some reason the bolt is locking back even when the magazine releases a shell and drops it on the lifter. It did not seem to happen when some guys with more mass were shooting it until they shot it from the hip. I am guessing something is worn out that is affecting the timing but if anyone else knows or has had this problem come up and solved it I am open for suggestions for a fix...."buy "X"" is really not going to help... Or if you can suggest a gunsmith that knows 1187 that would be great too. Thanks scott
  13. Chamber flags seem to be the way to go. I assume that even with the chamber flag it is muzzles up or down but they can be uncased? Can a AR flag work for Shotguns or are shotgun flags special one? Thanks again
  14. We started adding 3 gun matches to our pistol shoots lately and although everyone understands the pistol safety area and holster rule there was some laxity in the rifle handling around our club. I looked at a few of the safety rules listed on USPSA and 3 gun websites and am looking for some input into how clubs handle long gun handling while not at the line. The rule indicate muzzles up or guns cased while transporting between stages. Is that what most clubs do in practice? We are currently looking to go with requiring all long guns to be cased until a load and make ready command is given. Seems uncased guns ended up getting "looked at" and "handled" with their muzzles not up too often. Open for comments and suggestions. Thanks
  15. What are the chances that you guys know of something like this for all the 9's calibers out there? This is a very informative site. Thanks scott
  16. Thanks Guys that is exactly what I was looking for. Lots of great info there. scott
  17. Any advantage to the tapered vs straight wall cases? I assume the 38 super and supercomp use the same dies? What dies can you reload 9x23 in? Thanks scott
  18. Hello, I am just looking to get an Open Gun and am confused over all the different calibers for open in the 9/38 category. I looked around for some info on 9x 21,23,25, super vs 38 super, supercomp and cannot seem to find anything. Can some one point me to a link or information on the pros and cons of each and the difference between super and supercomp? Thanks Scott
  19. I did a search on the list to find out what guys like for bipods and most liked the Harris. Can you tell me what most guys are using for length? The Series 1A-2, model L, 9 to 13 inch or the series 1A2 Benchrest, 6 to 9 inch, or something different? Also any thoughts on the Harris Swivel adapter would be appreciated too. Thanks!
