  1. same rounds different gun.......

it took me a while to figure it out   but had some (bought) reloads that were jamming in a friends new gun but ran in mine..

long story short...  finally measured some of rounds not yet chambered in his rifle...  turns out reloads were off   by avg .0018   when dropped in case gauge...  unless you have really good eyes or ran a straight edge over loaded case gauge,  i missed these b sight alone .... i found out by using stand  comparator on a loaded case gauge   turned out ammo not passing case gauge....  it appears that the first slam rifle either resized ammo or chamber in my gun is looser....

before you send it back  take a real close look at reloaded cartridges before you chamber in rifle with  stand comparator   if you can get hands on one.   check sized trim legnth and if loaded cartridge is proud in case gauge.   You may need to dual down sizing die.....

if i didnt get any data from stand comparator.   i was going to buy jp gauge like big ed suggested

  2. if your brass and loaded cartridges meet specifications

what is curious is that it used to run great for "2 matches" but now having error.....  sounds like mechanical failure/error

maybe the problem is the rifle/mag?

    head space?

    blem in chamber?

    bad extractor? other bolt/bcg error?

  3. While not one of you original choices.   I'd consider a sp-o1  with any of the custom " pro package" be it czc, Cajun, accuracy...

I doubt you'll see any accu --- accuracy difference unless you ransom test it,. Or are in the top 5%

a fully stroked sp01 can be had for 1k.    add  extra mag f/o sights grips and still come equal or lee$$ than shadow pricing.  And come out with a better gun.

  4. i'm thinking buy the sp-01 with all the work done @ cajun gun works for about   1K

i parted my build out slowly, I  would just go full cajun  if i did it again  https://cajungunworks.com/product/91152-sp-01-998-00/

    if you DIY

    spo1  $700

    parts  $250

so the complete package from cajun make $$ sense  all you will need to ad is f/o sights   plus this gets you a gun way better than a stock shadow

but in my memory serves me the shadow is a saftey version spo1 with firing pin block removed  with f/o sight . and  i think different trigger,  i also recall a 3rd mag with shadow.              at this point you are are about  $200 in parts.

spacer to replace 14 lifter, i think the remove or mod the FPB ,  fiber optic sight, 85 c trigger

  5. I cull out cbc pierce and Aguilla,.  But not for oal reasons.    These headstamps would get big "hips" and fail case gauge or ftf.

Not sure how brass affects coal.

ogive is better measurement than oal.    But that's a different topic.

curious how much was you oal off?  And how much did it change  accuracy?

  6. the short time i was in the army  never saw a pin walk,  all my military friends, and leo that i know of that have shouldered an ar/m4  never saw a pin walk.

i have always thought anti walk pins were just a result of marketing, i even had some and sold them, i didn't believe they were necessary

    until yesterday....

luckily i was single loading for load development

i loaded a round, released bolt click to semi  squeeze trigger ....  nothing

took lower off disconnector not holding hammer

    switched lowers......

continued trouble shooting later found that trigger pin had walked  just a bit, just enough to cause error, this not on a drop in trigger, but tuned  mil spec.   pushed pin back in functions 100%

i just ordered 2 sets of anti walk pins....  i am now a believer

  7. I know nothing about s&w m&p or any striker fired gun.....

but local gun store has some very very clean buy backs  in .40 (and inexpensive)

no one at range or gun store has definitive answer.

im hoping there is a drop in part with minimal to no gunsmithing

    what about whole upper?

  8. ok im  frugal

i take a a used cardboard target cut out a zones.

lay this on drop cloth paper

    draw outline with marke

draw A zone with pen or pencil

my calculations have it @ about 56 targets for $10

  9. my grip strength is getting more consistent,  having the captains of crush in my car (office), mental practice

my opinion is if you have excess strength your 50% effort is much stronger than the weaker

my job is not manual strength intensive so i have to make up for it

getting precise grip placement , more so trigger hand , so gun and sights index correctly is my issue, guessing i'd drop .4  or more on my  draw to first shot average........

other than more dry fire  is there anything else to try ?

  10. No site suggestions but would be glad to chat about it,

i use use a sand sock left hand for rear bag and elevation..   Well rice sock.    I'm trying out a sock with large sand/ tiny pebbles now.

get a body position that gets the rifle to recoil straight back .....usually in line ish with rifle, faster second shot acquisition.

often over looked tool is.   Scope level.   I did't break sub .20 moa until I started using one.

find out if your gun and shooting style likes to "load" bi pod.    Parker hale style pod is easier.   Harris not as easy. Some shoot better without loading.....

use a sleeping bag mat if your going get a lot of belly time.

Observe and learn  breathing control / pattern, pulse timing

To be clear, AFAIK there is no actual 'crimp' with 9mm, all you are doing with the crimp die is knocking off the bell just enough that it case gauges OK, no more -- no actual crimp like other calibers. Any more than that, more often than not, you end up with ammo that tumbles. Sorry to sidetrack.

    respectfully disagree

    taper crimp  is necessary,

    it is hard to measure

maybe you are speaking of roll crimp......

  12. I'm tumbling in walnut

    harbor freight tumbler

    nufinish

    ihavent gone over 1 hour......

Now im curios to what longer tumble looks like......

i always wear wear a mask when separating brass fro media.... And do it outside.....

how many runs on dirty brass before you change media?
