  1. I'm not sure that's accurate. Here's what I can tell you. When I'm shooting well, I can see the serrations in the front site clearly. I can remember the site picture for each and every shot I take. Literally.

I used to believe that this was nonsense and it was impossible, but it isn't. If I'm on my game and doing what I'm supposed be doing I'm aware of the sites as I break each shot.

My gut feeling is it something you have to learn how to do. I did. But I'm also learned that I can put two in the Alpha at 7 yards without seeing the sights at all.

  2. There's more to it than this. It's about seeing what you need to see to break the shot.

You cannot expect to be making 50 yard shots without razor crisp sight focus. It just isn't going to happen. But at 7 yards you may be able to get away with not looking at all. You need to learn what it takes to get an alpha each and every time you pull the trigger at every distance.

I don't care if you're training for the Olympics. The point is the same. You need to know exactly what you need to see in order to be successful. The only way to get that information is to practice it every distance. Find out what it takes to get the 7 yard alpha every time. Then see what it takes to get that same Alpha at 15 yards. Then 20.

  3. Other than classifiers where you might lose 0.10 of a second, a race holster has no value in practical shooting.... Aside from showing off your fancy gun.

I like showing off my fancy gun, but prefer to not have worry about dropping it, scratching it on poppers, banging the sights into stuff and risking a DQ.

  4. My big dog has crap hips. It's my fault I'm sure for running the heck out of him when he was a puppy. Dog loves to fetch.

    I digress.

Every once in a while he has these limping spells. They last a few days and he recovers. The vet tells me once a year at his annual that the dogs hips are shot and to expect to have to start giving the dog steroids and painkillers. And year after year the dog deals with it. No whining. Just moves a little slower than he used to.

People should be so tough. This has been going on for 5 years.

  5. It isn't safe. You're shooting at a target who's movement is unpredictable. Sure you can bet on the physics of a dead middle shot, but what about an edger? Now all bets are off.

With that said, there are a lot of variables that make shooting steel predictable. One of them is distance. Another is steel of a proper thickness and hardness so as to create a repeatable reaction when the bullet impacts.

In reality, the best you can demonstrate for a reluctant board is a host of precautions. For example, "I don't engage steel at a distance less than the uspsa mandated distance, I'm shooting at new steel without pockmarks that's of sufficient hardness to flatten the projectile and targets are setup so that loose rounds are captured within the depths of the bay..."

If they're out for blood, you're most likely in trouble in my opinion.

  6. There Is no way the current legislation won't have a negative impact those days. Here in the south it'll be as busy. Might be moreso with the renewed fascination with guns.

But the gun-control states like Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and Colorado are going to have a crisis in my opinion. Its going to be harder to be shooting open or limited without running afoul of the current laws.
