I agree on the Lee crimp die i got one this year and love it.
also take the barrel out of your gun and use it as a space guage.
dont' do it with a clean barrel best results i find is with a barrel with about 50 to 100 rounds throug it..
hope this helps

I am going to the cup for the first time in 2005 and I sure hope all of you come back.
I have heard so many great things about all of you i can't wait to meet you.
I am just a marksman shooter but hey the people is what it is all about to me.
And I won't give you the cold sholder and I will welcome all of you from abroad, please come back....
We will have 6 AP matches here in Bedford Va next year, and I have a Dillon 650 and a 1050 here in my shop about 10 minutes from the range and you are welcome to re - load here if you come to Bedford..
But this is not at the cup but we have all the cup stages...
Now i can't put you up for the night, but my shop is yours if you are here in Va.
See ya'll there

According to my 650 book the shell plate for the 9x19 9x21 and 38 super is the same shell plate #5.
Cleaning you dies and using one shot is a good place to start and marking your stations to see if this is happening at the same station may find the problem
Good luck.

Doug,
I have done a little work with the 9x19 on my ranson rest and what i found out it can make a lot of difference with just .1 gr of powder on the 9 x19 because of the small case...
Sounds like you have some very nice groups
I am no pro at this but common since tells me that with the small case like the 9x19 it does not take much to open up a group ot tighten it up.
It seems to be a lot more touchy that larger calibers.
Let me know what you find out I will be trying more with my 9x19 in the spring

I have 2 of the 627 38 supers
I just got my second one last week new..
There are sill about 35 of them left from this run.
I hope they keep making them great guns to shoot.
At this point Bangers is where you have to go to buy them.

Sorry to hear anyone going out of business.
I like the zreo bullets but lately i have been using the Hornaday HAP 125 get a lot better group and the price is good through Midsouth shooters.

I have a xl 650 and a rl 1050.
on the 1050 the primmer seats at the end of the stroke and I dont feel any presure at this point.. smoot as silk..
I really dont even use the 650 any more i never did like the the up stroke seating of the primer...
If you are just loading pistol ammo find ya a used rl 1050 the new super 1050's have a longer stroke.
Tryin to answer you question i dont feel any pressure when it seats the primmer it is at the bottom of the stroke and thats it.. Also it is very easy to adjust the seating depth of your primmers..
hope this helps

Bubber,
I tried the 9mm in both the 686 and 627 and like i figured and everyone else says after being shot in an auto the case buldge a litte and the bottom and dont fit well at all.
Now maybe new brass may work well.
I use the rp nickle brass and never shoot it in an auto in 38 super and it works well..
A thought i have had is when the nickel brass starts to crack maybe try a few and trim to the same length as a 9mm and see what happens but need to chane the load and not built up too much pressure..
Probably the safest thing to do is just shoot the 38 super.

I just paid 1000.00 for a used rl 1050 and it has all the dyes and more one change over so i think i got a very good deal..
been runnin a xl650 love it too but i like the primer feed on the down stroke better it is a lot smoother.
If you dont have to buy many extras it sound like a very good deal
If you want to load long rifle you may want to check into the super 1050 but if you are only loading pistol the rl1050 is great

I have loaded on my friends 550 good old press for sure.
I now have a xl650 with all the bells and whistles.. It it a great press. I did have a few primer problems at first just took some twiking runs smooth now.
But now I have an old rl 1050 man it is sweet.
The 650 has a lifetime warranty where the 1050 dosen't just one year..
I think you would be very happy with the 650 the case feeder is awsome.

Well
I have a 686 and 2 627's in the 38 super and I have a hard time finding moon clips that work good. only ones i find that work good are the smith brand.
I have a bunch of tc customs and Dave from hearth sent me some samples to try for free but I sent them back because they were floppy too and the moon setter tool wont work with out grinding out a grouve for his clips..
Now Tom and Dave are great guys I am not trying to down grade thier clips or tools... Can't find a better bunch of guys to deal with...I beleive this is a gun that smith is only makin a few of and man i dont think it is going to take off but i sure wish it would.. I love the 38 super revolvers
Damm I did try some 9x19 rounds in my 6 shot 686 today in the tc clips, and they did fit nice.
havent shot them yet couldnt in the livin room wife hates that and it is hard on the TV...
Smith and wesson has built just a few of these guns and teasing us i think but I do like them Fun too shoot for sure.
I sure wish Smith and Wesson would listen to the shooters more..
My .02 worth

I have been wondering about this also.. I have one of the 686 6 shot and 2 of the 627 8 shots.
I havent tried the 9mm brass in a moon clip yet but i will today.
sounds like a good plan if it works Let me know please.

I have a 38 super mil spec and it was very loose like all mil specs.
I sent it back to springfiled and paid 125.00 for the reliability service..
Man what a difference... dont know what all the did for the 125.oo but it is tight now and shoots great..
worth a try i think.]

Do you have good luck with the moon clips?
I have a 627 in the 38 super hard to find good clips for this caliber.

Cool,
the 650 is a great press i have one but it does spit primers all over the floor.
I now have a 1050 no primers on the floor;))))))

I am looking for load data for 38 short colt.. I havent seen any for this caliber in my manuals.

Well here I set with a box of parts going to my gunsmith in the morning for a new AP gun..
Screw it, I am building it all the way and if I can't shoot it at the cup next year I will take that cash spent on the trip, and shoot more matches here.
IMHO..
Open should be just that open. Stand or go prone shotters choice..Run what you brung...
I do like the idea of
Open auto
Open Revolver
A modified class for the ipsc type guns is a great idea!
Stock or prodution class
melallic class is good also.
Hell let's thorw in a Sling shot class too..
Hum now how can I get the stick shift -wings -red dot sight-and base pad on this baby and still be legal....
