  1. Well this craptastic video has been making the rounds lately....

I've had some friends that where into the capoeira stuff, and it is cool - in the same way lord of the dance is cool. It isn't real fighting obviously.. although a lot of morons will claim it is.

Unfortunately I've found out this is a scene from the movie "Never back down" or some similar derivative of that name. Apparently this is the only good part of the movie because the rest of it looks like is sucks pretty bad... a wana be fight club movie.

    The more you know...

  2. The steel stage reminds me of a stage we shot at the FLORIDA OPEN a few years ago where you threw a 6-sided die and whatever color it landed on was the color of the poppers you shot. VERY similar to what you have here.

The problem with cards is what if someone turns over TWO cards ? Then you have a re-shoot scenario. Slows down the match a little. The dice thing is a little better in that the die can only land (theoretically) on one side not two. Also slows down the shooter who watches it and waits for it to stop rolling ... higher class shooters would engage the paper targets then watch the die for the colors, thereby not wasting any time. But your idea is cool too. Simpler.

    Very nice :)

My original thought was to do it with dice, but our MD thought people might complain if someone wasn't giving it a fair toss or it bounced off the table and suggested the cards.

I'll make it a procedural to flip more that one card - :roflol: I was thinking about making them 5x7 and relatively hefty to avoid problems with wind and turning over more than one.

  3. The paper stage is eerily similar to an ICORE classifier stage. The ICORE version has 5 targets and a mandatory reload between boxes.

    Wow...

I thought up my version after trying to re-create Pucker Factor from this years Single Stack Classic at our local match. I managed to line the targets up a little too tight, and lazily just moved the shooting box over a bit. But it got me thinking along those lines...

I've actually never shot ICORE or been to a match... That is quite the co-incidence.

  4. Just a little single stack snobbery here at the local match.

I've been practicing out of Anderson's books like a mad man, and it has been showing.. I am trying to jump right over B class this summer.

  5. I shot it the other week..

    Single Stack

    19.35, 92points 4.754HF

    68.84% according to classifiercalc

I blew a mag change and dropped points on the weak hand, both things I can improve on easily (and shouldn't have blown if my head wasn't up my behind).... I think I can reach a 5.25HF next time I see this one..

  6. What I am going to push for sometime this sumer is a local money match. Maybe something like this - One division, reasonably high buy in say ~ $100 with a reasonable estimate of 50 people participating Comes out to $5000. Off the bat, the club should get 10% leaving $4500 to be divided up on 5 stages.

The first step is a put up or shut up type deal.. a few local clubs just have to give it a try.

    * I think the 5-10% club take will also do wonders for improving the grounds and equipment at the club level, etc.

$500 won't even put ROs on the ground at a major match, let alone paper, and all the rest. At any range around here, it wouldn't even cover the range fee for 100 shooters.

Color me skeptical because I was involved with the very first (and to date, only) "Cash Blast" match that was intended to kick off something like this.

    it didn't.

Wow.... The small match, 5 stage, 50 shooters went right over didn't it?

Maybe we are lucky around here, but we get by on $10 match $1 re-shoots every month.. That is why I picked 10% of $100 :roflol:

  7. Add me as a fan of the idea Z.

I am a little flabbergasted at some of the counterarguments here. The idea is so elegant and simple I am struggling to put it into any other terms that might persuade anyone that still disagrees.

I think there where a few sticking points that people couldn't get over.

Defining Pro vs Amateur isn't all that necessary. The grand baggers and sand baggers need not to worry, a pro match just has a set buy in amount with the change to win some money.

Show me the money... I think the problem here is some sort of expectation is that there needs to be an over night "Masters™" of USPSA. It would work just like any other sport that has a pro series has done, and start small and locally.

$900 in prize money per stage can be broken down just about anyway, and I would think having about half the field get something would be nice. Off the top of my head ( because exponential subtraction is hard to do for me)

    1st $150 2nd $125 3rd $100 4th $75 5th $50 6-16th get $25 . So if you finish 16th on all five stages you make $25 over your fee.. Finish 1st all five - $750 is yours.

You string a few of these small local money matches together in a region and you have a mini tour ( even here in the middle of nowhere there are better than 6 clubs within a half days drive ) Get these clubs together and throw some of the pot towards a points system... Take a few of the better mini tours and open it up... blah blah blah.. thats how it grows.

I believe having the chance to win some money will bring out more people and invite stiffer competition.. and that isn't a guess or opinion - you can look at countless other sports that have done it to see it is a working model that needs just a few people to mold it to fit shooting sports.

It is little steps towards a bigger picture. If it builds momentum and was worthwhile enough for the first few years to a whole generation of pros to pay into higher money matches that will prove worthiness to big sponsors and TV.

I just don't think this is this is analogous to a "show me the money" spreadsheet of profits and gains with expectations to make it worth of a big all or nothing start up investment with a large capital mass to get the ball made and rolling.. Rather it a boot-strap start up thing where the ball is just that tiny flake rolling down the hill.

The first step is a put up or shut up type deal.. a few local clubs just have to give it a try.

    * I think the 5-10% club take will also do wonders for improving the grounds and equipment at the club level, etc.

  8. I got the impression that it was first and foremost the Single stack classic, and just happens to act as the uspsa nationals. A handful of people seemed outright mad that USPSA had anything to do with it. I received some grief for my gear being near the limits of the rules ( and if they had a box or scale it would have just made that too), one went so far as to say " I could wear my mag pouch like that too, but I don't out of respect" and in regards to my techwell " I can't believe there is no box, there is no way that would fit" Needless to say, I thought there was a little too much negativity towards a no name C class shooter such as myself. The ROs where great, and of course knew the rules - but still had to measure and check me out at the wishes of a few competitors. Although it doesn't totally excuse my sub par shooting, it did have some effect on my mental game.

I think somebody needs to decide if they just want to keep having a single stack classic and have another nationals (which is cool in it's own right) or if they want the classic to evolve into the nationals ( in which case there are some changes that need to happen as mentioned in numerous other post.) Either way some people will be upset and whine.... Hopefully not me.

a few other random observations from me...

No interim results seemed odd. I would have loved to check my scores before leaving. I think it would have helped Z spot the mistake on his score.

I don't know if Springfield has an exclusive deal, but being such a big match it seems strange there isn't a few more vender's out there.

  9. Got to say high to ZHunter and Catfish as they came through my stage at the SS Nationals. I had hoped to meet more of you fine folk, but didn't for some reason. I did see one guy with a helmet cam with a ZHunter SS shirt on. When I asked him about it he seemed evasive. Perhaps a Glock spy trying to copy the perfect pistol :goof:

    Gary

Which stage where you on? I would have spoke up and said hello, but nobody was wearing their snob club membership badge...

NOTE: We should really have badges... or decoder rings... or something..

  10. Well, that was fun..

I got to shoot a squad behind Phil and the rest of the Friday Super squad. I don't think I've ever been happy to get backed up on a stage before. I thought for sure GTO was in trouble after watching those guys, but damn if that man ain't a machine.

I didn't get to meet up with too many of the benos guys, or I did and didn't realize it is probably more accurate.

  11. I have a last minute appointment tomorrow and if it runs long and the weather is bad there is a chance I might not make it to Quincy by 7pm for the check in. I don't have anyones personal contact info if I am late for the check in I am not sure what will be going on....

If anyone could drop me a private message if you happen to know their number, I would appreciate it. Or I can give you my phone number and you can give me a ring when you check in and find out....

  12. I have been getting the Outdoor Channel from Direct TV and previously (years ago) from

Dish Network for an additional $1.99 per month, But I guess it is their job to upgrade you

    to a bigger package...

I just found out about this channel and the shooting shows last week and called (mediacom) immediately.. No ala carte, but $9 got a whole ton of channels including military (awesome) and the game show network which my wife hasn't stopped watching.
