  1. I use one and it works great for keeping the slide off of your hand. I haven't noticed that it points or controls recoil any better. I taped mine on with vinyl tape and then overwrapped the grip with rubber tape. Works like a charm. If you decide to epoxy it let us know how it turns out.

  2. My advice is to continue shooting the irons. Save the money until you get enough to change your equipment some, because you may want to change to a flat top upper as well. You may also find that you like shooting iron sights and don't want or need to change anything. When I first started with the rifle I had an A2 and I tried putting scopes and dots on the carry handle and it didn't work real well for me. What I found out was that you can learn to shoot well with the irons. You can also be very competitive with irons even against dots and scopes as long as the ranges are within your visual ability. I still like to shoot irons, even though I have a scope now.

There is alot of info about this topic already out there and I'm sure some of the guys at the matches will let you try their stuff as well.

  3. Honestly I am kind of disappointed I have been looking for a pistol caliber rifle and my friends basic camp 9 does almost identical accuracy. So why spend almost triple the price on 9mm AR. Is it just the cool factor? Or am I missing something?

    Vlad

It is not just the cool factor for me. It does have a nice cool factor though. My rational was that it is the same platform as my other rifles, only cheaper to shoot. I also like the fact that there are plenty of accessories for AR-15 type rifles. I can outfit it just like the .223 guns that I use in matches.

  4. What kind of accuracy should I expect out of a 9mm AR?

I have a Rock River and I can get about 2" at 50 yards. Rock River says on their website that it will shoot 1.5" at 50, so I guess they are probably right. They are a lot of fun to shoot and they are cheaper to shoot also. I usually try to shoot mine in matches that are less than 100 yards.

  5. I'm with Flexmoney on the G20 and if you decide to go the .40 route that is how I would go. Glocks eat me up too, so I put one of those Glocktails on all of mine and problem solved. I do however think an 18 round .45 can work in Limited.

  6. I am not sure about the magazine issue. I have a regular G20 with both types of magazines and the only difference seems to be the tab that is cutout of the front of the mag for the SF models. Everything else looks the same.

I have a Lone Wolf conversion barrel that I use for shooting limited and it is a dream to shoot. The G20 seems to soak up recoil. The only complaints that I have are that magwells are harder to find and the LW barrel has a very tight chamber. So I have to chamber check every round in it to make sure they fit.

  7. One of the drills that gets me tuned in to doing what I need to do is a plate rack at 25 yards. I shoot it virginia/limited vickers. When my practices get too fast and loose. I then work the plate rack until I am cleaning it most of the time at 25 yards on the clock. I usually throw in a few 10 yard runs just to keep it fun. It can be brutal and humiliating when trying to go fast at 25 yards.

  8. I like the versatility that they allow for equipment management. Usually in a 3 gun match if I am using all three guns on a stage, the coupled mags free up space on my belt. I tend to use the one I have almost exclusively on every stage. If the rifle part of the stage is short enough for one mag then I have one extra just in case of a malfunction. Either by me or the gun.

  9. If the choices are only between the G34 and the XDM my vote is for the G34. Like Zerwas stated the lower bore will change the recoil and make it more manageable. For a lady that usually makes quite a difference. If other choices are going to be considered I would third or fourth the suggestion of the less expensive and equally capable G17. I'll even go a step further and suggest a G19. Which in my humble and opinion is the perfect gun to have if you are going to have only one.

I have put a lot of time on an M&P and I like it better than the XD that I own. The M&P also has adjustable backstraps that you can tailor to hand size. However if she can handle the grip size of the Glock then I believe that also helps in taming recoil.

As stated earlier you are on the right track by letting her test before buying. If you can find someone who has one of the XDMs, I am sure that they will gladly let her try it. There are tons of options and it is important to decide what the main use will be before buying something that won't meet your needs.

    Good luck and happy hunting.

  10. It appears as if the prevailing opinion as to "why comstock scoring doesn't work" for multi gun matches is the difficulty of using it to score a mixture of major and minor PF weapons. It seems the answer is to score all 3 guns the same. Is the debate: whether it should be all major or all minor? If all weapons are scored the same will it make a difference whether it is Major or Minor?

  11. Why don't we just score the DIVISION. If you shoot in the Production Division you are scored minor regardless of what you shoot. Add a Heavy Metal Division for those that want to shoot major and make Limited and Tactical score minor.

If we define our divisions accurately, it shouldn't matter whether it is scored Major or Minor since everyone in the division will be scored against the same standard.

  12. I went the RRA complete gun route and would recommend it to anyone thinking about getting a 9mm carbine. It is only about $300 more than what a Storm costs. I did wait 3 months for it but it was worth it. You may be able to find one on gun broker that you can get sooner.

I had thought about the Storm and they are good guns but I shoot ARs so I that appealed to my logical side. I love shooting mine and if you reload you can get some higher velocity loads that will let you reach out a little past 100 yards with no problem. I try to shoot all our local 3gun matches with mine because the ammo is a third of the cost and at 100 yards and closer you aren't going to give up very much if anything to the competition.

It is a great dilemma to have keep us posted on what you decide.

  13. I get the redneck bloodmarys. Trust me...choose your hangover rather than drinking this crap.

We have an AB brewery here in Columbus. The head brew-master happens to live in my neighborhood. I'm trying real hard to find a reason not to go and kick his ass.

You should kick your own ass. What were you thinking.? I've done a lot of things that in retrospect don't make sense. Nearly all have involved beer.(and large women) I do feel your pain. You are very brave to share this one.

  14. Chuck Norris put his hand and foot prints in the walk of fame AFTER the concrete dried.

When Mike Huckabee was asked if Chuck Norris would be his Secretary of Defense, he said "No, he'll be The Department of Defense."

  15. I wish I had a Popcorn eating emoticon to post here rather than having to actually type all of this out. Of course I am also too stupid to use any of the advanced features of this forum.

I miss the emoticon because it was a whole lot easier to read than if someone actually typed " Dude what were you thinking starting a thread that will get closed faster than you can say Orville Redenbacher".

  16. A shooter friend in our area, who is dying of cancer but has yet to give up living, once said "Live the width of your life. you don't know how long you have but you can fill it up in the mean time." My mantra from then on has been "Live Wide"

  17. My "perfect" would be:

    1. One division, gun and magazine fits in box. Iron sights only. Mag capacity is whatever fits.(I would be open to 10 round limits as well) Holster setup would be like Production or Singlestack.

    2. Scoring is all minor.

    3. Course descriptions will be: Start here, in this position. At signal engage targets however you like.(SAFELY). Hard cover would have to actually be hard cover. If there is a hole in the target it counts. If you can see a target you can shoot it.(As long as it is safe)

My goal is for it to be simple and to have everyone competing together.

Also Texas stars would be banned.
