  1. I have a pair a of those that are just now getting broken in after wearing them daily for about 3 months. But they are also coming apart at various point on the sole. My rating is that they are not worth the money. For almost twice the price I have had two pair of Asolos that lasted for 5 years between the two pair wearing them daily for work. They are pricey at around $220 but they have given great service. I bought the Keens to try because they cost less and they were comfortable for 15 minutes in the store. Another brand that I had good luck with was Lowa and they can be had in the same price range as the Keens. They were probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever had but they only lasted a year of working in them.

  2. If you don't have a rifle already you can save a little money down the road by getting a complete flat top rifle. You can then either get bolt on front and rear sights or an inexpensive scope (Weaver 1-3x less than $150). This gives you the option of upgrading in the future. The bolt on sights and this scope will cost about the same depending on the quality of the sights, but you will probably save $50 on the rifle by getting the flat top upper. A pump will do fine but learning to reload is critical. I suggest learning the weak hand reload. I will warn you that 3 Gun is ADDICTIVE. I started out using a post ban A2 carbine, a Mossberg 500, and a Glock. I had a lot of fun with that set up but the craving for gear overwhelmed me.

  3. I started out using 6 rounders because I won them. So I only load 3 at a time since I have to make two swipes anyway. I think that given the chance to do it over I would still go with the 6 rounders because I can get 24 rounds in the same linear space as I can get 16 rounds using 4 rounders. I also like the advantage of loading fewer because I think I have better control over them. It is faster to load 4 at a time though.

  4. I have several Coast flash lights and have been very happy with them. I have one that is similar in size to the Surefire g2 and several small ones that are the size of my pinky. They used to sell the small ones with an extra set of watch type batteries for about $10. I now have one that takes a AAA and it works fine. I have even left them in my pocket and washed them and they still work.

  5. This is the rule from the IDPA Rulebook.

CoF 8. No threat target shall be located so that it can be hit by

    shooting through another threat target.

The stage is illegal. If the Match Director allowed an illegal stage to be used how can any IDPA rule be applied to that stage?

CoF 10. Targets must be engaged in tactical priority unless

tactical sequence is specified. Targets within two (2) yards of

each other relative to the distance from the shooter are

considered to be equal in threat.

Tactical Priority according to the drawing would be slicing the pie. Target 3 then 2 which would cause shoot throughs on 4.

CoF 1. All CoF must either simulate a possible real life

scenario or test skills that might reasonably be used in a real

life self-defense confrontation. If you cannot honestly say “that

could happen,” it probably won’t make a good IDPA stage.

If this were a real life scenario and you shot threat #2 and also shot threat #4 as well, what would the Police and DA do if you went ahead and shot threat #2 twice more after already neutralizing him? You would probably get a 20 year FTDR penalty.

I don't think there should be a procedural penalty either. The FTDR rule covers not shooting all shots to gain an advantage.

  6. I use 4.7gr of TG with a Precision Delta 180gr fmj at 1.135" OAL and get 170+ PF out of a G35. Most of the time it is in the 173 PF range at Major Matches. You could probably use less but I use this load in a G22 and the PF is slighly less, about 169-170.

  7. I broke one once because the loaded round that was supposed to fall into the bin got hung up on the wire that is there to eject it. I think the wire works its way up and changes the way that it contacts the rounds. A round will still get hung up there from time to time, especially with 9mm. I adjusted my up stroke to be a little slower and more deliberate at the top, so that I can stop before I put too much force on it.

  8. I used to use my carry G19 as backup when I shot a lot of IDPA. I like to have a complete back up gun rather than just parts but since I am kind of weird I usually have both. It comforts me to know that if there is a complete failure, I can still shoot and have fun. Since you have the G19 already, I would just go with that. It wouldn't hurt to have a few springs and pins for the G34 though.

Chronoing your ammo is a good idea too.

  9. I have had 2 Model 1 uppers a 20" and a light weight 16" and both have been fault free. I still have the light weight upper. I had it on a Cav Arms lower at one time, but I never fired it. But it sure was a light weight package.

About a month or so ago I checked with Model 1 on how long of a wait to get an uppper and they said it would be 26-28 weeks.

  10. I ran them through a Kel-Tec but I didn't really group them or chrono them. I shot them for function only. I would say that Bill loaded them a bit on the light side though. Overall length will be one of the key factors on loading the heavier bullets. Some of the ones Bill did for me were about a half of a hair too long. I would think that with the heavy bullets you could get into some pressure issues if loaded too short.

  11. I have tried to read all of this so if my point has already been stated I apologize in advance. Instead of pushing variable power into Open, where regardless of actual need there will be a perceived need to upgrade the pistols and shotguns, why don't we combine the 1X dots with iron sights and let the other divisions stay as they are. One reason there is a need to have powered optics is because the shots are getting farther and farther. If it is our desire to get the average guy, with the average Iron/1x dot in to the game, why don't the Match designers give him an average shot that he can make. 400 yards is not something the average guy can do.

The situation we have is feeding on its self. The shots get longer so we get more power so the shots get even longer... Even if we get the 1x division started, people won't stay if they can't make the shots. They will either quit or jump to the variable power option and we are back to where we are now.

I started out shooting Irons because it was all I had. I left because Irons make up only 10% or less of the competitors and because the shots were getting out of my 1x range. I still like shooting my irons but not at 400 yards in a match. If the shots were manageable and the number of competitors increased I would probably go back.

Berkim, I must have been typing while you were.

  12. I'll try the top pin trick when I get home. The magwell is flush, minus the scalloped half moon in the frontstrap. I can only get 19 rounds in, even on my #5 follower.

How did you shim the plug? What does shimming it do?

When I put my magwell on, the front would have a slight gap in it but the back would be flush. I put 4 layers of electrical tape on the back part of the plug running vertically from top bevel to bottom bevel. This covers the screw hole but I just cut around it to get the screw in. This makes the plug fit really tight so that it will not move. You may have to adjust the number of layers. I think that the reason for the gap was because the plug fit was a little loose in my gun. I have two done this way. There may be a better way.

You also may want to take Flex's advice about putting the regular slide stop back in. In USPSA in general there usually isn't a need for the extended release. I have one on one of my guns and have never had a problem accidently hitting it. If it does happen I can assure you it will be at the worst moment.

  13. Make sure that the spring for the slide stop is under the top locking block pin. If you don't put the top pin in first you won't get proper tension and the slide stop will move too freely. Usually shooting it will cause it to lock back as well.

I have a Dawson ICE magwell and I shaved some of my Arredondos before I realized that the magwell wasn't installed correctly. If you have the ICE Magwell check to make sure that there is no gap between the magwell and the frame. Once you have no gap you shouldn't have to shave much if any to get them to fit. I also had to shim the brass plug to make the magwell fit properly.

  14. I find that the inner dialogue must take place instantaneously for me. Usually I only have it when I screw something up. Then when I tell someone what was happening in my mind it takes atleast 5 times as long to actually say it than it took to actually happen.

Recently it was caught on video. The stage called for shooting a popper early in the stage to activate a drop out target that could be shot later in the stage from a platform. When I got to the platform the conversation went: "Where's the target? There should be a target there. You missed the steel idiot. Keep shooting. Get it later." When I watched the video there wasn't any pause at all when that conversation took place.

  15. Big Jake

    I'm afraid not, Dewey.

You coming back to see again soon, I hope.

Absolutely. Hopefully this time I won't have gun troubles on the highest point stage again. It sucks to zero a 230 point stage.

I was torn between Big Jake and The Searchers, so my last guess is The Searchers.

  16. I usually hate to give Mike a compliment but he does a really good job with the scoring and getting them out quickly. And I thank him for that, because, I too, hate waiting on scores. So attaboy Mike. I'll start harassing you again tomorrow.

  17. There is nothing wrong with the XDM. But...

You are in the right frame of mind with the idea of keeping the G17 and getting a G19 to carry and back it up. Familiarity is a good thing (my opinion) early in the learning process. You will also do well using the conversion for practice. Most of the things you need to practice can be done with the conversion and you can practice 10 times as much for the same cost of 9mm ammo. I used one for quite a while, sold it and bought it back. One thing that I always did though was to shoot a mag or two of 9mm ammo at the beginning and end of each practice session. I didn't want to only have the feel of the light .22 rounds.

As for sticking with one division, that is also a good idea. It doesn't necessarily have to be Production but that is as good a division as any. Especially since you already have the equipment. There is also a wide range of accessories for the Glock at reasonable prices.

I also think that the G19 may be the best carry gun available.

    Hope this helps.

  18. I have a option between h335 or aa2230 to load 223 rem with 55gr fmjbt bullets. I have used H335 before, but not aa2230. They are the same price for 8 lbs, so I would like to get the best powder or does it even matter. These are just plinking loads, but I would like to get the best powder of the 2. Thanks in advance.

I have just started reloading 223 as well and I loaded quite a few with H335 but now I am using the AA2230 mainly because I get about 100+ feet/sec more velocity. You will get lots of advice here and there is already quite a bit of info on the forum about these two powders as well. From the research that I have done you probably won't go wrong with either powder, but for me the velocity mattered.
