  1. Well shizzle. I brought her coffee to her just now at the hospital, and asked her about the golden boxes. I got the deer in the headlights look, so I guess I wasn't the only one who dozed off. She thought it had something to do with the deceased children, but wasn't sure, so I guess no definitive answer from me. I'm going to have to show clear and decock and holster on that one, I suppose.

  2. I love my FN-FNP9 dearly, let there be no doubt. Of course I had to fall in love with a pistol with very few aftermarket accessories.

Here's the issue: I have been unable to locate any decent front sights for it. I bought a tritium set from Ameriglo, and they work great at night, but are just as low-vis as the factory sets in the daytime. Slow sight reads are not a problem when beating the hell out of paper, but as I look forward to my first match next weekend, I realize that I am going to need everything bit of help I can get when shooting for time.

I have pondered dragging it around to different shops seeing if I can retrofit a set of FO sights manufactured for a different pistol, but this is a serious pain considering my schedule. Are there any other FNP owners here who have found a working solution? Thanks folks! :)

  3. Here's the link for approved pistols: :here:. Hope that helps. I did find it a tad odd that there are other models of the 226 approved, but not a blanket approval for all 226's. Kinda odd, but what do I know?

  4. It would seem to be a big PITA, but it's really not all that bad once you get into it. Last time I pulled a bunch, I just sat on the basement floor (concrete) with the puller and a few empty akro bins.

The last time I had a session just like that, except that I ended up dumping a 115GR bullet back into the powder. Uneven charges galore until I got my head out of my @$$.

  5. I ummm asked my wife to have a peek, and she knows one of them, (7.) for sure. I don't remember the film..must've been snoozing. Didn't know if I could post as an answer though in all fairness.

  6. +1 to that, SiG Lady . I was gently and quite properly corrected with my late night rant yesterday. No hard feelings, as I stepped out of bounds a tad, but was set right with ease. I love these forums, and as BrianH's rant showed, this is THE place to be B)

  7. With any luck, "the manufacturer" will make good on your pistol and pull the remaining stock off the A$$hats shelves.

"The Manufacturer" has spoken, and boy is he irked. As soon as I mentioned the issue, then the shop's name, he gave me the city and road it was on, as he was personally that familiar with this issue. Apparently this was not the 1st similar incident, nor the 2nd, or even 3rd with this particular shop. I even received an offer of having the rep on the phone call the seller and insist that he trade me out immediately, and that the dealer send the defective one back at his expense. I declined, even though it was a prime opportunity to say "I told you so". I don't know how well this portends for the dealer, but it really isn't my issue anymore.

There will be a Fedex driver arriving tomorrow a.m. before 10:30 with a box and paperwork to fill out to send the little .40 back to it's maker, and I have the direct number of the rep who I spoke with who will expedite the repair, and failing that, the outright replacement and return shipping at their expense. I wish this piece had been QA'ed before it left the factory, but the customer service after the sale from the manufacturer was superb. They accepted full responsibility, which is rare in most other areas of life in the world today.

I'm happy, the spousal unit has put away the death-ray eyes, and harmony resumes it's natural course though our household. ;) Keep it up, Big T, and I'll deal with you in the future.

  8. Here goes... Bought a {{**edited by Moderator}} for the Spousal Unit for a CCW to replace the Bersa .380.. She wanted a concealabe a tad larger than .380, and there was a great sale going on at a local gun superstore, who shall remain nameless, except through PM.

I have substituted "the manufacturer", for well, the name of the manufacturer of this fine firearms company based in my home state, in Miami. I don't believe this is typical of their product, but rather an aberration. The arrogance of the below mentioned nameless commando and his boss are what REALLY peeved me.

    [RANT]

We started out this a.m. at the range, and she was ready to give it a run, being fully briefed on the recoil in .40 in such a small frame. She owns and regularly shoots a ton of different pistols from .22LR, to .380, to 9MM, to .45ACP with no issues. Good grip, gentle squeeze, BAM. Nothing on the paper at 15 yds. Nothing but air. Next shot, I notice a small piece of paper get clipped on the bottom left of the target paper., a good 12" from the 10 ring. She looks over at me befuddled, and I coached her through another shot. Number three hit about 2" from the second shot and snapped the target frame in half. WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot? She emptied that magazine and gave me the dreaded "Pissed Off Spousal Unit" look.

I asked if I could have a run with it, and fired a string on my target. 3 out of the 10 made the paper..barely. All bottom left, but my target frame survived. Out of the box from a major small arms maker, henceforth known as "The manufacturer". I would have better luck in a confrontation with a slingshot.

Took it back to the dealer, and their self proclaimed IPSC A class shooter/Police Trainer/onsight gunsmith/shooting EXPERT (Read:dipshi* with an attitude. A definite gunshop commando) said "there is nothing wrong with it, let's go to our indoor range and I'll show you".

His 1st shot at 15 yds: 12" low, 8" left. I snickered. "It's not meant to be fired at this distance", says Captain Dillweed. Utterly unamused look on my face.

2nd shot: missed the paper COMPLETELY. Yep "A" class, if A is for @$$hat. "I'm not used to this pistol is all", he then said.

3rd shot:in the white, top left corner, 2' over the first shot. I suggested that he not adjust aim, but please keep it in the 10 ring and see where it patterns. "I'm not adjusting my aiming point". Umm yeah. OK.

4th shot: top center of the white, 12" due right of shot 3. By now, I am steaming. No offense to Ray Charles, but given a choice in a nasty situation, I think Ole Ray might be the better choice for a partner at this point.

Of course, he has fired 4 shots, hit the white 3 times in 3 separate places, and nailed a shot of air. On a full size torso at 15 yds, with 20 rounds, this "IPSC certified Class A shooter" has managed to shoot a shotgun pattern running 2' in height, 18" in width, with all of 5 impacting the actual silhouette. "See it shoots fine". "Nope", says I, "unacceptable".

Of course he refuses to budge at this point, being shown what a dip he is. I politely asked for his boss, the owner. He says that if we have a problem with it, to take it up with "the manufacturer", , because "the manufacturer", doesn't want to deal with him, but rather the customer. I finally lose it at this point, asking why he would knowingly sell something that he can't back. He repeated that if there was a problem with the new pistol purchased from him, to take it up with "the manufacturer", and leave him out of it. This is a LARGE gunshop. with a multi million dollar inventory. What an @$$. he just guaranteed himself that he has lost 2 frequent weapons buying customers for life at this point, and I will freely give word of mouth advertising with anyone else I shoot with. Guaranteed.

    [/RANT]

I feel better already. I will definitely be calling "the manufacturer", in the a.m.

**Mod note: If you truly want to keep the discussion limited to an anonymous "the manufacturer" (in keeping with the Hate Forum Guidelines), it might be best to not publish the very unique and identifiable model of the pistol in the 1st line of the post. B)

Edited to add: thanks for the fumble recovery, ima45dv8.

  9. Best money I have ever spent. It is pretty amazing when you no longer have to jack with Glasses, Contacts etc.

+1 to that!! 20/20 in weak eye, 20/15 in strong eye. Life will be magnificently better for you. Serious halo effect with mercury vapor streetlights the first year or so, but damn, I love rolling over and not having to make out with the clock to see it at night!

  10. I did it. I bought it. Damn that new HSBC platinum card with the mega limit on it made me do it. I bought a 2007 M&P in .40, full size. After an hour and a half tonight of familiarzation/breakdown/reassembly, I'll be taking her to the range tomorrow a.m. The large backstrap kind of reminded me of the feel of a Sig P229, which is not a bad thing at all, especially with big old paws like mine that tend to swallow smaller pistols. There is nothing like +P+ loads actually scorching your left thumb when shooting a pistol too small with big hands. Been there, and it sucked.Hellaciously. With more of my grip taken up by the backstrap, this is less of an issue, if one at all.

After a lot of talk with another local gunsmith I know, he explained some of the differences between early production of this and the newer ones rolling out today. That, along with the fact that he is a S&W certified smith put me at ease enough to just do it.

Initial thoughts are as follows: I like de-cockers. I like them a lot. I will miss that luxury with this. With my FNP I have one chambered at all times when carrying, and salvation is just 9 lbs. of pull away...no safeties in the way, I've got one of those between my ears, thank you. With the M&P, the safety trigger is it. Kinda heavy for even me to try and conceal, but that isn't what I bought it for anyway :) I bought it to beat the living *&it out of some steel.

I have never fired a DAO pistol, so it should be interesting. The trigger is gritty as hell right now, even audibly so, but after a liberal application of Slide Glide,(Thanks, BE!), and a few hundred rounds, it should hopefully smooth out. If not, back to the smith it goes.

I sincerely appreciate the fact that it doesn't have the no-magazine safety installed. They really didn't have to stamp it on the side of the pistol, but I'll take what I have and keep it for now.

For any S&W lovers that I have offended in posts past, please excuse me if I went too far. I'm going to give it a run tomorrow, and see how she performs. Thanks for all of the input here on this pistol in the BEnosverse, and now I'm off to dry fire practice in the garage.

  11. Before I settled on my FN-FNP, The list also included a S&W M&P, and a Walther P99. I believe I stumbled across one that fits right in between the 2. I recently had the chance to shoot with someone's SW99 in .40, and damn near kidnapped it. It felt like an actual extension of my arm...every shot seemed to "flow" naturally exactly where I wanted it to. I don't know if I was just "in the zone" for an hour or so, but I think it definitely had a ton to do with the pistol itself.

I have not been a huge fan of S&W's autos in the past, ::donning flame retardant suit for protection from YSUED::: :P but damn, this sure felt right.

I am looking for input from anyone with factual knowledge and experience with this pistol before I purchase one. Pros/cons welcome. I have so little faith in the common gun rags, as their bottom line is to sell advertising space, not necessarily true information. The dollar does rule printed matter.

I am tossing it's fate up to the BEnosverse, let's hear it.

  12. With 3+- grain loads in .380 or 9MM, using something like TG or Ramshot Zip, you have to crane quite a ways to see the charge, as it is so small. I recently had my first 3,000 rounds loaded, and also the first squib in 30+ years of shooting. The primer detonated, but no recoil. I expected light recoil, as I was working on some super light loads for the wife, but not THAT light. I have switched to a bulkier powder (Promo), and seeing the charges is far easier. Needless to say, pulling the other 250 bullets from that batch with an inertial puller sucked. Big time.

  13. Good for you! I am planning on participating in my first match in 2 weeks. No idea of what to train on except shooting straight. Speed will definitely be an issue for me as well, and hopefully i don't get so flustered that accuracy suffers. Again, congrats!
