  1. Back during the huge ammo shortage soon after the last election looking through one of the Winchester 100 round value packs was interesting! You didn't know what you'd find, around here anyway. There were NATO marked crimped, marked uncrimped, unmarked crimped... any combination and they were all WIN head stamps. That was before I had a 1050 and I really had to look at every case. I swear Winchester was throwing anything that they could find in those boxes, LOL!

  2. IMO case lube, carbide dies or not, is your friend. All I load is 9mm on my 1050 and while you don't have to have it, it really helps. In my experience the Dillon die is the easiest die to size with already.

Another consideration is how expanded the "once fired" brass is. Some guns have, as I'm sure you know, much more generous chambers. Sizing brass out of one of those naturally takes more force. Brass from a tight chambered gun, not so much.

  3. Ammunition can be in the same bag but has to be in separate container right? Just making sure i know the rules 100%.

That seems to be airline dependent. Airtran says ammo and guns can't be in the same piece of luggage.

Btw, anyone know about how much ammo in dillon boxes is 11 pounds? I'm estimating about 400 rounds but I will have to weigh to verify.

400 rounds of 9mm loaded with 115's is just a tick over 11 pounds on my kitchen scale.

  4. Hey Jonathan, I was bored at work today and started rummaging around and discovered that a hacksaw blade with the teeth ground / filed off would be a perfect replacement for the aluminum mounting rods. It's almost the exact same width, very thin, strong and who doesn't have an old dull hacksaw blade lying around!

And if you really want to play I think you could take the three screws out that have the spacers on them that hold the two sides of the holster together, shave the spacers a bit and reassemble to eliminate the side to side wobble. Full custom fit. :D

  5. Hey Jonathan, I'm waiting for a left handed version to come but did get to play with a right handed one. Anyway I agree the machining is rough, little fuzzy plastic things everywhere. If you haven't, take an old toothbrush and go over it. I keep a couple around for gun cleaning anyway. The plastic fuzz will come right off.

In my opinion the screws that mount the holster coming from the inside to the outside is a vast improvement over the Ghost. You can easily mount it to any thickness belt then easily trim the extra screw. The screws in the Ghost going from outside in aren't near as easy to work on and also have to be trimmed or they'll ruin your shirts. These are going to be much easier to cut to the required length.

The lock is, again IMO, an improvement over the Ghost, at least for drawing. The ball coming up/out when you draw gets it completely clear of the trigger guard unlike the Ghost where you have to draw "through" the ball which always causes a bit of a hitch, at least with my steel SV grip. Again, I don't have mine on my belt but it's very noticeably smoother than the Ghost.

I'm interested in the "ton of play" you mentioned. I'm looking forward to comparing that to my Ghost. There does seem to be more right/left rocking than the Ghost but much less muzzle up/down and the magnets seem to almost eliminate that.

Dust cover wear is one of my concerns too. Maybe your bottom magnet not touching is the way it's supposed to be?

  6. Just got to remember to hydrate

This! Daytime humidity numbers were single digit last year, temps pushed triple digits. You're gonna sweat but you aren't gonna know it. If you're from a humid climate it really doesn't seen that bad IMO. I had to force myself to drink because it just didn't "seem" that hot to me.

  7. You could be right on that but I've never heard so. Ever since they've been listed on the SV site they've said they need to know if it isn't for a SV frame. According to SV... one of the main differences is the key ways in the frame aren't as precise on the STI frames so the grip is slightly oversized to allow for fitting. There may be some other differences. If you're really serious about getting one call SV. Brandon will be able to answer any questions and get you squared away.

  8. Your GF must be one fugly woman!!! Lol! Seriously, the SV grips cost most of a small fortune but they are obtainable. It just takes a few months on average. Call them up and explain what frame you want it for. If you can't or don't want to fit it I'd guess most any of the top smiths could do the job. Shay at Akai Custom did my stainless signature.

  9. The drill bit / chamfer tool trick works darn near as good. I have done both and also have the Hornady tool which I do prefer but I wouldn't pay shipping to get just that. For now use a drill bit and, IMO, order the Hornady tool sometime when you're ordering other stuff. It's less than $10.00 bucks and again in IMO very handy to have around.

  10. Glad you got it working. If you had to go that far it's almost guaranteed Apple left something mucked up in the registery. ATI also used to be notorious for that. Sorry wgnoys that's not Windows, that's poorly written software. Hopefully they (Apple) get their act together but I wouldn't hold my breath. I've spent countless hours helping people get older Apple software cleaned off in the past, most notably QuickTime. Anymore I just avoid any of their products or software altogether.
