  1. Shay was great to work with, always answered any of my questions and put up with me. I spent over an hour on the phone with him when I ordered it, asking him questions, he asked me several questions about my shooting style, what I like and don't like about the gun I was shooting then, etc, etc and used that information to make suggestions on what he would build me. My Open Katana in 9mm has been flawless out of the box. It just runs. And my questions after delivery have been answered without issue. My build took 6 months and 3 weeks and 3 months of that was waiting on SV for a slide. He built an Open for a good friend of mine and it will be here this week. He told my friend 6 months, turned it around in only 2!

  2. My experience is that older STI mags work just fine in the SV steel grip, newer don't. I run a Grams built STI 170 with 100% reliability in my SV steel grip. Some newer ones won't go in the grip. The only to know for sure is try them.

If you're getting a new SV, just get mags with it and be happy. MHO.

  3. If you're going to try this... just make sure you practice it A LOT before doing it at a match. A gentleman on my squad tried it at Nationals... and missed. The mag hit the mag well and spun the gun around breaking the 180. That was the end of his match.

  4. Now back to work on a Monday & they tell us we're all getting iPhones for our new company phones ....... <_< (this from a die-hard Android user!) How will I ever get accustomed to the different operatign system?

That's going to be harder than going back to irons! I saw a video that explained how to run Android on an iPhone. Something to think about!

  5. You really wanna be surprised, check SV. They're quoting 18 months and it's almost always longer.

Shay at Akai, Matt and I'm sure some others are full time builders / smiths. They aren't assembly lines. We need and practically demand 100% reliability and that doesn't come from just slapping parts together. If it did, we'd all be doing it. These guys know that .002" here .0005" there is too much or not enough and that kind of precision doesn't just happen. Not to mention getting the parts. My Akai took right at 7 months. Three months of that was waiting for a slide and two weeks+ for chrome. The actual time the gun was "in process" was only a tad over 4 months.

There are some shorter wait (build time) guys out there that build good guns... but you supply the parts.

Look around, see what you want and make some calls. I'm sure you can find exactly what you're looking for.
