Yes, what cartridge length. Also, what barrel length? You could have the slowest barrel ever made, in a Commander, and thus need 6.0 to make Major. Your buddy could have the fastest barrel ever made, and only need 5.7. That's life.
I'm loading to 1.250 and shooting through a 5" springfield 1911.

I started reloading about 4 months ago on a Dillion SDB. I reload Meister .45 200gr. LSWC with Win 231 powder. I was used a chrono at the local club to test my load to make sure it made Major. At 5.9gr. of 231 the chrono only came out to a 166PF. After reading some other threads and doing a little research, that seems like a lot of powder to only reach 166PF. I now actually load 6.0gr. just to make sure I average major. It seems to shoot fine through my 5" 1911. Could there have been a problem with the chrono? Does that seem like an excessive amount of powder? Any thought? Thanks.

Thanks for all the info on the different loads. I'm waiting on my media seperator. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I appreciate the help. DVC!

Nice thread PB. You shot pretty well yesterday. You better watch out! When I get my reloader up and dry fire routine down I'll be nipping at your heels! It was a pretty good match with the exception of my classifier re-shoot. Later.

Sorry but it takes me 5.6 or 5.7 with 231 to make major in my 5 inch gun...under a 200gr H&G #68
Most people I've talked to use around 5.7grn of 231 with the 200grn SWC. I've heard the difference in the H&G 68 and others is length. Is the 68 better than others for feeding reliability? My scale came in today, so it's reloading for me all day tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

I just purchased a Dillon Square Deal B press to start reloading .45 for my Limited-10 gun. I'm looking for a good proven load for .45 (major). I purchased some SWC lead bullets and Winchester 231 powder. Does anyone have a good setup with these components? I'm also open to suggestions using different bullets and powder. I appreciate any and all help. DVC!
Too hot a load for Major?

I honestly think there was a problem with the chronograph. I plan on using a different chrono this week to figure out exactly what is going on. Thanks for sharing the info with the rookie reloader.
