Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Can you order a Glock OEM barrel? I come from the benchrest world so I'm a barrel snob...with that said, I don't know much about aftermarket pistol barrels. To know who's elite, you would have to see who CNCs their barrels and where they get the metals from. Consistency and finishing are pretty much everything, once you have a barrel fit to the proper dimensions. If the barrel is button, which I imagine is the case for pistols barrels, then the button quality, heat treat and lapping will separate the elite from just average. There's a lot to a truly elite barrel. And an elite barrel with average ammo turns into an average barrel I've only used KKM and Stormlake aftermarket barrels. Stormlake isn't around, but KKM is. Here is a 34.5 KKM barrel: https://kkmprecision.com/product/gen-5-glock-34-match-9mm/ They also have a G17 should you decide to go that route.
  2. 1) get 147 grain ammo 2) See if this video by Hwansik Kim interests you. It was worth it for me. https://vimeo.com/ondemand/recoilmanagementseries
  3. I try to use Hwansik Kim's pull grip...so i probably should add a strip to the back. I'll play with it. He doesn't use tape but I don't have a billion hours of grip training like him.
  4. Skateboard tape is an option, too. lifting/climbing chalk, too. Here's one found at Home Depot...it's more aggressive than Talon Granular: https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-2-in-x-15-ft-Safety-Walk-Step-and-Ladder-Tread-Tape-7635NA/100132176 Here's a super aggressive 80 grit found at Home Depot...this would chew up my hands but I may have soft delicate hands: https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Safety-Walk-Slip-Resistant-Step-and-Reflective-Tread-6-in-x-2-ft-7768NA/100391699#overlay I left tape off the back....I'll add it if i feel like i need it. I cut it with scissors. I'm not pick about looks.
  5. Not all grip tape is the same grit. If you need more friction then you may should try something else. There's plenty of folks that don't use tape.
  6. I have a G34 Gen5 for CO. It's what I had so I went with it. The shooter will determine the performance advantage in the G17 vs G34. Really even G45 vs G17 vs G34 The edge will be mental, not physical. My friend shoots his G17 faster and more accurately than I shoot my G34. I've got a Carver Tungston guide rod, 13# recoil spring, CHP brass plug, FCD plate, Glock Performance Trigger + Vex shoe + Ghost trigger bar, wrapped in 3m grip tape from home depot, TF & Henning magazine extensions. 17# recoil spring causes my muzzle to dip, but that's based on my mechanics....yours may vary.
  7. In the hands of a skilled pistol shooter....is there a difference between a 2.5# and 3.5# triggers? Where does a harder trigger press usually send the shot placement?
  8. The GPT with Ghost 3.5# gets down to around 2.5# with a 4.5# firing spring and stock plunger spring. With the Vex trigger dialed in there’s zero over travel and little take up
  9. It’s really amazing what Glock can consistently put out at a high volume. Most if not all others can’t…you always read about the folks undoubtedly returning to a factory setup. is there any 3rd party Glock parts maker that is known to be as consistently reliable as Glock?
  10. I’m going to put a 3.5# ghost connector in the GPT with the Johnny Glock vex shoe and see if I can get it dialed in. I tried it yesterday and was getting 2.5# on my Lyman digital but the first pull wasn’t consistent feeling. Follow up pulls felt the same but the first was odd. I try adjusting the vex shoe and see if that makes a difference. the GPT with a minus connector is 3.2# consistently and the reset and take up is very short once the vex shoe is dialed in.
  11. Thank you for the replies. I’ll try out a Timney trigger and see how it compares to the GPT with Vex shoe. The Apex trigger shoe feels the best to me. I like the feel of a wider larger trigger.
  12. In addition to the two you mentioned: Beretta has a $300 rebate... the Beretta 92x Performance Carry Optics is an option. Lesser expensive option is a Canik Rival SFx I'm older too, so I get wanting something that is easier to shoot better, and become better more quickly. That is my want as well. I'm regionally local to CGW...so a CGW Shadow 2 dominates my area.
  13. If you go off Reddit then LO will be "I'm shooting x until my Atlas gets here", lol If that bothers you then CO may be better. I just enjoy going and competing against myself, so it doesn't bother me. I like production and CO...it's the divisions that fall within the $$ I want to throw at it. LO should be a lot of fun with SAO offerings. Most of the differences are highlighted below: Limited Optics doesn't have a maximum weight limit. ....has a maximum distance of handgun and mags of 3 3/8" ...has no holster restriction ... doesn't have a handgun approval list. ...can have a non-operable installed flashlight ...can have a magwell ...I'm assuming can do whatever you want to the grip, unlike CO.
  14. I just meant I didn't see the LO division in the rulebook when I read it. I probably saw limited and skipped over it because I assumed it would be major scoring. My inexperience makes me unsure on what gun I want to shoot. I liked CO because for ~$1700 or so you're at the ceiling in terms of performance from a gun in that division. Production the same... I don't know what the realizable performance differences are in 2011 within certain price points, but the prices certainly vary getting over $6k. I just need more competition experience. The old sled G34 will work until then. lol
  15. @motosapiens - I overlooked the Limited Optics division when I was reading through the rulebook. I was going to order a CGW Shadow 2 for Carry Optics, but now I need to see if Limited Optics is a better route. Right now I have a G34. I'm unclassified and slow...so I know practice is my answer, but I don't think going to a platform that's easier to shoot better for most people is a wrong answer, even if it's premature.
