  1. bulm5 & texasag93, I may be able to help you out if you live close to southern California. I go over to a friend who buys bulk about every 4 months. I don't think he ships, he just supplies the locals but I don't think he minds a little more business. Send me an email if you are interested. B)

As far as accuracy goes I am still trying to dial that in. I have just changed from shooting a Kimber 45 to shooting a Glock 40. I am finding they shoot a little different. :D

  2. PistolPete, I reload once fired 40 cal once or twice because it is so cheap, 45 cal gets reloaded until I loose it or use it at a competition (usually 4 to 5 times). 38/357 we reload a soft 357 load and have reloaded some cases 8 times without any signs of fatigue to the case. I have not started reloading 223 or 9 mm yet. As I recall the rule of thumb is about 4 to 5 times but I have heard some reloaders get 10 reloads out of a normal 45 cal. load. Of course if you go hot, love a big bell, or shoot a glock you might want to reduce the number of reloads per case a bit.

Joshua, I use brassmanbrass.com for my 40 brass. I have always been satisfied with their product. I suggest that you order while you still have some brass because they are getting very busy and it may take a week or two for you to receive your shipment.

  3. Hi All,

I was at the range last weekend shooting my Mdl 35 with some reloads. I have been adjusting the crimp, powder, OAL in an effort to create the most accurate load for my pistol. I noticed that the grouping was a little large so I put my 9mm barrel (KKM) in and shot some factory Win. 9mm, the group cut in half. I am looking for an accurate factory load that I can use to test the pistol with the stock glock 40 cal barrel leaving my reloads out of the equation. What is your suggestion?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  4. Brassmanbrass.com for the last year. I have gotten away from picking up brass at the range for my .40 but still get .45's that way. At the price that the Brassman charges it almost does not pay to even pick up the .40's any more. I need to find cheaper bullets because that is my big expense in reloading at this point.

  5. I could go either way. I really like my EO Tech (non-magnified) optics on the AR but I would go iron before I would compete in Open Class. I used iron sites for several years, and got pretty good with them, before I looked into getting the EO Tech. The EO Tech made shooting the AR more fun for me (maybe just something new and different). I think that all shooters need to start with the basics. As far as separate divisions go I think there are enough now, but special awards would be OK.

  6. I think that the last shoot was at Piru last weekend but I may be wrong. Atta Boy Taran. It could not have happened to a nicer guy. I have taken several classes and gone to several matches with Taran and he has helped me get into this sport with a little jump start. We have talked about having a good attitude around new shooters and helping to make the match fun. Taran has done these things for me and others.

  7. Hi Erik,

Sorry to hear about your job but... New opportunities will come your way. In my work, Land Surveying, I have hit hard times during every recession but seem to bounce back somehow. I believe it is better to work for several different companies because each employer has things that you can learn from. Gather information from each job and learn as much as you can from each place you work. They can take the job but they cannot take what you have learned from you. Good luck in your hunt for the new job. I am sure you will come out better than you were in the long run. :)

  8. xsrdx,

I am over 200 LBS so your point is well taken. I have been shooting shotgun at clays for years and usually hit opening day of dove season so to me guns that kick start at 30-06 and go up from there. I am not the macho man and use any form of recoil reduction that is available. You make a good point for the smaller shooters.

That being said my 14 year son thought the Benelli kicked less than the 870 or the 1300 pump I have been letting him use to shoot clays with. Maybe it is just because it is dad's newest gun... :D

  9. Pete,

Are you using lead, washed or FMJ bullets? Round nose, round nose flat point, or?? I agree with Wildman if you do not have a case gauge get one. Dillon has a good one but I found with lead bullets they will sometime not seat all the way into the case gauge due to the diameter of the bullet. I was using Hardcast bullets back then.

By the information you gave on the finished bullet they look very consistent. I use to sort all my brass but after a while I got lazy and only use sorted brass for competition. I find a mean that does not exceed the OAL or crimp that I desire and run with that for the non sorted stuff.

By the way, it is nice to see dillion addressing questions here. Thank you to the Dillion Gang. :D

  10. For the past few months we have been remodeling our home. Last weekend my middle son graduated high school and we had our first party in about 5 years to celebrate the event. My wife is happier than she has been in a long time because everything is clean and now at long last we can start shooting again. In another thread someone spoke of why people get out of our sport and his explanation really hit home. But this weekend my wife is in Vegas at a tournament and my boys and I are going to spend two days at the range trying to get back to where we left off. What I like is having life back to normal. :D

  11. Steel & paper. I download targets off the internet and print them on 8.5X11 paper. The steel I picked up about 8 months ago from an old guy that use to teach tactical handgun and shotgun. I use the paper to learn the feel of the gun (or refresh myself to the feel), that could be anything from trigger feel or obtaining the proper site picture. The steel is used for picking up the pace and multiple target acquisition. I usually do both, in no certain order, when I go to the range each week. One trick that my friend showed me was how to make an IPSC target from a paper bag. Just cut the bag in half down to the bottom of the bag. Leave the bottom and just cut it on three sides. Now the bottom of the bag is the head and the rest is the body. It is kind of funky but it works and it a great way to recycle paper bags. :D

  12. I have been following this post and low and behold when I took my 35 out this weekend my slide locked back several times. I had just gotten a trigger job done so I called and talked to the person that did the trigger job. He also said that sometime a small burr will develop on the slide release which has to be filed off. This thread has brought up several other possibilities that I will explore this weekend at the range. What is strange is that I have put about 10,000 rounds through this gun without a failure, got a trigger job done and now it does not want to cycle. There is a 3 gun on Sunday so I have to get it fixed on Saturday or else use my 45 with only 10 round capacity. :( Those high cap mags can really spoil a guy. :P I will let you know what I find after this weekend.
