jakeb
Hey guys/gals, I'm loading up my first 9mm batches...how do you perform a proper taper crimp? I'm using a Hornady Taper Crimp die in a seperate station from the seating die. Would it be acceptable to measure a resized case mouth diameter...expand, charge, seat, and crimp then measure again so that it matches the original diameter? I'm afraid of over pressurizing. If I pull the bullets...should a proper taper crimped bullet have a mark on it? A groove on it? THANKS! - Jake
jakeb
I've used the search function too...didn't find what I was looking for...Google was not much of a help either. My three reloading manuals say to crimp until the bell is removed...would that equal the measurements I mentioned above?
Canuck223
9mm generally need very little crimp. Just take the bell out and a tad more. Measure the case wall thickness, double it, add the total to the bullet diameter, and subtract .001 .379 should do it.
Fullauto_Shooter
Mine measure .375, and have for years since I haven't messed with the Lee FCD since I first set it up. I've had great luck with them.
