Mark K
Do any of you know of a cheap or shareware program that will READ the input from a barcode reader (can borrow a USB one from work). I would like to use it to read the barcode on the DVDs that I have so that I can index a list of them. Mark K
galt11
You could try this program, zbar http://sourceforge.net/projects/zbar/ I have never tried it myself but many such things can be found on sorceforge. Adam

The scanner acts like a keyboard to the computer, if you open any program you can type into, the scanner will 'dump' the scan data in just as if you typed it. Almost any program will 'read' scanner information (notepad, wordpad, word, excel, etc) If you are trying to have a program look up data regarding the movie itself based on the UPC barcode, that is something different. I don't know what I was thinking, but you are right..... I have found several DVD databases (free and pay) that will do what I want. Thanks Here is free database in MS Excel that you can download for freee http://www.hometheaterinfo.com/dvdlist.htm Here is the same database online that you can do a search on http://dvdlist.kazart.com/DVDList2.php Here is a $30 software program that I may end up with http://www.collectorz.com/movie/ I tested a few free and shareware programs, and Collectorz seemed to do the job, worked with the barcode reader, and was easy to use.
