"Golfball" stippling/texturing in SSP

My reading of the rules from 2005 is that you can use skaeboard tape, a rubber sleeve, but no stippling in SSP. It is okay in ESP, but I don't think you can do it in SSP. Is that correct? Note: I am not talking about grip reduction.

Yes, but remember this when you make an SSP illegal modification to an SSP gun for ESP.

Pistols approved for SSP may also be used in ESP and CDP

depending upon caliber, even if the pistol in question has a full-

length dust cover. However, should the pistol in question have a

modification that removes it from SSP, it must meet all other

division criteria for ESP or CDP, again depending upon caliber.

What about purchasing an after-market grip and replacing the grip on the SSP? I was thinking if one had an M&P and put a Burwell grip on the gun, would that be considered "stippling" and thus and illegal modification?

With the newer guns that have replaceable grip backstraps, etc. I believe the ruling was that you can modify the replaceable part(s) and stay in SSP. So you could stipple the replaceable backstrap, but not the gun proper/irreplaceable parts.

That was my understanding as well. Stipple/checker up the removable grip piece, but stay off the frame......sorry glocks.
