Reloading the 40 for IDPA

I need a starting load for a 40 155gr. HP using VV N-320 powder. I'll be using same in a SVI pistol for IDPA (ESP).

You may have seen this already, but the VV website shows a starting load of 5.1 grains of N320 behind a 155 HP for 1091 fps (169 PF).  That is at an OAL of 1.126 though (you will probably load longer I imagine for reliability) and a 5.5" barrel.   A longer OAL and shorter barrel will reduce velocities some.   The MAX load is 5.8 grains FWIW.   You're probably looking for something that closer to the IDPA power factor floor I imagine.   A faster powder like N310 may be a better option.

DB, I, have the Vihta Vuori reloading guide. I was looking for data that would put me around 130-140 PF. I'll prob. load to 1.190-1.200 OAL

Hi Michael and welcome to the forum.

Tell us a little about your SV. I'm guessing that, since you are shooting IDPA, it is a single stack, bushing gun?

I drool over the IDPA SS they have on thier website.

My SVI is a stainless steel double stacked Blaster w/ scott grips a std. length dustcover,stirrup cut,and a bushing barrel.

I also have a AET cone barrel and a tungsten guide rod for IPSC.

If you don't mind being WAY over power factor and have to stay with VV powders then that's okay I guess.

I suggest 3.8-4.0 Clays for a 125-130 PF load that shoots REAL soft with the 155.

Why do you have to load that long for your gun?
